About the property

1 bedroom/1 bath cabin with amazing river views!!!

The Blue Heron Cabin is a cozy 1 bedroom, 1 bath vacation cabin located on the spectacular Sol Duc River only 15 miles north of Forks, Washington.

The cabin sleeps 2 guests and can either have 1 king bed or 2 twin beds. Convenient kitchenette with mini-fridge, microwave, sink, and coffee maker. Satellite TV, DVD player and WiFi. Why stay in a stuffy motel room or frilly B&B when you can have your own cabin, dine on the back deck overlooking the river, and bring your own firewood to have a crackling fire in the fire pit following a great day of exploring the area!

Blue Heron Cabin is a great place to access the many activities offered by the Olympic Peninsula. The area is famous for it's Steelhead and salmon fishing, the Hoh Rainforest, and Olympic National Park. Our multiple local rivers also provide whitewater kayaking and rafting.

We are a short 15 minutes from Forks only 30 minutes to Rialto Beach, 1st Beach at La Push, 2nd Beach, and the Strait of Juan De Fuca at Sekiu. Hungry Bear Cafe is conveniently located just down the street for a hearty "Logger Breakfast" , hamburger and fries, or a slice of pie with ice cream!

The cabin is available for up to 2 people on either a daily or weekly basis. If you need more space, we also have Blue Heron Lodge on the same property: 3 bedroom/2 baths (sleeps 10 guests) with its own amazing river views that can be rented with the Cabin or separately - just ask!

If you're an avid fisherman or would just like to try your hand at either fly fishing or gear fishing, we also offer professional fishing guide trips (full day or half day) on all of the area rivers through our Blue Heron Guide Service!

We'll be looking forward to having you as our guest at Blue Heron Cabin for your visit or fishing trip to the beautiful Olympic Peninsula!

If the Cabin is booked just call us - other riverfront and lodge properties available!!!

Great home base location for traveling Olympic National Park (ONP)

  • 5 of 5

Our home for five days with a great fishing trip to boot. Great location to explore ONP as we found it a center point for activities in Port Angeles to Ruby Beach. Our fishing trip was amazing, from the beauty of the river to Larry's expertise and great company. Nicely appointed cabin with all the comforts of home and a relaxing view from the deck or water edge that is just breathtaking.

Cozy home base to explore Olympic National Park

  • 5 of 5

We had a delightful four-night stay at this charming, well-equipped cabin on the Sol Duc River! Highlights included: (1) putting my significant other to work grilling up our nightly dinner, (2) a bald eagle that soared up the Sol Duc River while we were breakfasting one morning, and (3) convenient access to the western parts of Olympic National Park. We used this as our home base to take day hikes along the Hoh River, around the Ozette Triangle Loop (highly recommend!), and through the Queets Rainforest. Following the recommendation of Julie, the cabin's booking agent/manager, we stopped in Port Angeles (about 50 minutes away) for groceries on our way in and stayed well-fueled throughout our whole stay. On rainy days, the cabin stays warm and cozy; it's equipped with a comfy couch and extensive DVD collection for evenings in.

A gem of a getaway cabin!

  • 5 of 5

Was fortunate enough to grasp this sweet little cabin at the last minute for the Forever Twilight in Forks Festival! Myself and three tween girls stayed here and the size was definitely adequate for the four of us. My oldest daughter and I slept in the beds provided, while the two younger girls slept on the reclining love seat and mentioned that it was more than comfortable. In reading the previous reviews, I was able to establish that not everything was provided, however, if you read all the information listed, it's easy to plan accordingly. Since one of the last reviews that listed there was no toaster or serving bowls, etc., it appears as though those were added! Awesome to know peoples comments are being read and concerns are being addressed. Since I'm not much of a cook, and we spent a significant amount of our time away from the cabin, not having a stove wasn't a problem for us! Yes, you can hear traffic on the highway, but with the windows closed at night, I didn't hear a thing. There is a larger cabin next door (quite lovely looking by the way), however, we only heard them while they were loading and unloading from their cars. The cabin was VERY clean and well stocked upon our arrival. Everything from TP, PT, soap, shampoo, light bulbs, foil, plastic wrap, lighter for the fire pit,etc was provided. You will NOT need to bring blankets/pillows as plenty are provided. Our contact, Julie, had left us a personalized gift basket with all sorts of treats! The girls and I LOVED having wifi available, as well as satellite TV that offered more than enough viewing options. So much so, that we didn't end up watching any movies from their great movie selection. We also enjoyed the back deck overlooking the river. Was nice that the girls had a place to run around and explore outside on our downtime. The only thing I noticed as being odd during our stay was the doors. The bathroom door opens into the walkway of the bedroom (to make more room inside the bathroom no doubt), which in a small cabin with four people, can make it awkward. Also to open the slider onto the deck, you had to move the kitchen table/chair a bit. A lamp for the table would be nice, too. Obviously, those are very minor items and can be clearly overlooked in light of everything else this wonderful place has to offer! Will certainly be reaching back out to Julie with A Cozy River House for future stays either at Blue Heron or other sites they oversee as the entire experience was wonderful!

Great cabin... excellent location!!

  • 5 of 5

My recent stay in this cabin in the woods was amazing! The unit was clean and well appointed, stocked with dozens of movies, and a view the Sol Duc River just below the cabin. The location is great, centrally located to most of the Olympic Peninsula attractions we wanted to visit. The owners were extremely easy to communicate with and went out of their way to make sure our stay was enjoyable. We will definitely be back!

We had a great time!

  • 4 of 5

The owners were great communicators and made renting this property from far away very easy. The property was set up nicely and was clean. The location is very pretty and centrally located to all the fun sites on the Peninsula that we wanted to explore. We knew in advance that the kitchen wasn't set up for cooking, but we used the grill to make a few meals and it worked great! Especially the whole salmon on the grill, fabulous! Our only suggestion is that the current bed/beds be replaced with a new set of twin or full beds. New comfortable beds would bring this property a 5 star rating. We had a wonderful time.

Good and bad

  • 3 of 5

My husband and I stayed here for three nights recently.

First the good:

Excellent location for exploring this beautiful part of the country

Cabin is very clean and pretty comfortable

Great couch for relaxing

TV with plenty of channels and lots of DVDs (action, action and more action)

Nice back deck with view of river and a path down to a covered picnic table and fire pit

And the not-so-good:

First, no stove so you are NOT set up for cooking. This was not clear in the description and I would encourage the owners to really spell it out. This would have been a deal breaker had I known. There's a gas grill outside and the kitchenette has plenty of dishes and cutlery and and surprisingly good knives, but no serving dishes (like to make a salad or marinate some chicken) or a toaster (a must for even the most basic breakfast). The manager, Julie, kindly brought over a few items from another rental and we were able to cobble together a few meals using those items.

The property is maybe 50 feet off of 101 so you hear cars/trucks all day and night (though it lightens up a bit at night)

The bed was really two twins shoved together with a pad on top so it really sunk down in the middle and was kind of uncomfortable.

No dead bolt on the door.
