Lovely cozy house in quiet neighborhood with views of the Ko'olau Mountains and sounds of surf gently blowing through on the gentle trade winds. Enjoy complete privacy and/or learn about where to find good stuff to do from owners who live next door (and are gone to work all day). , boogie boards and masks/snorkels on the property to use on the quiet, most beautiful and safest beach in Hawaii. Public transportation (Da Bus) 1/2 block away goes to Sea Life Park, Hanauma Bay, Waikiki, etc. Or walk the five-mile long white sandy beach with views of other islands, near and far.
House is light and cool with queen size bed in one bedroom and twins in the other. Tile floors, ceiling fans, deck for dining in the moonlight under coconut palms or breakfast while gazing at the sunrise on the mountains.
House is most perfect for family of 4-5. Very kid-friendly house, yard, neighborhood and beach.

we lived on the property for 15 years before we bought the property have been remodling the 3 houses over the last 7 years. Havent lived anwhere else then Waimanalo since we moved to Hawaii in 1991.
Jay & Barbara purchased this house in 2005
Waimanalo is a neighbohood a life style of the local culture has remained one which is about music, food, talking story & comes from the heart. Waimanalo beach you'll find yourself one of just a few people on the 5 miles of sandy beach. The ocean is very gentle & safe very unique area on an island of 1 million people
Net, Net: we loved the house, we loved the location, we adored the beach, Jay and Barbara were great and we'll be back. Just make sure this is the location for you.
My son and daughter-in-law live on island, but their place is too small for visitors, so we were looking for a place for 4 that's within easy driving distance of Honolulu where they work but away from most of the tourist stuff. They love the Waimanalo Beach area and we couldn't have lucked out better with Jay and Barbara's cottage. The size is great for 4 people. Its an easy, 3-5 minute walk to the beach with beach access right at the end of the block. The cottage is quiet, clean and well kept, a very workable kitchen, great shower, and an awesome lanai - bright and private. Jay and Barbara were great. House lit up and they were waiting for us when we arrived even though we arrived late in the evening and hours later than expected. They had breakfast foods laid out so we didn't need to worry about shopping. They were great landlords too. If we needed them, they were there and extremely happy to help, but otherwise we felt very much like the land was ours.
This area is great for people who want to be away from the tourist areas,. Just be aware there's not much around aside from from a convenience store , a very small grocery store, and a couple of eateries most frequented by the locals, so be prepared to drive for groceries or to restaurants. The residential neighborhood is eclectic range of locals and retirement/vacation homes to some pretty shabby properties. Regardless the neighborhood was quiet, safe and the beach never had more than a couple of people on it as there's much easier access to the beach both day trippers a mile south and a couple of miles north.
Thank you Barb & Jay for your hospitality, for being such thoughtful and generous hosts! We especially enjoyed the treats (fresh papaya, guava drinks, orange juice, chips, eggs, bread, milk, cream, cereal, granola bars, etc. ) waiting for us when we arrived, too tired to think of grocery shopping... we loved being so close to a wonderful beach (one where I could actually go in the water!) and having a cozy, comfy, quiet place to come back to after a day of hiking or swimming... other things we really appreciated: Barb's binder with info on local restaurants, etc. (our favourite was the Thai place) ; wifi that worked without a hitch ; a washer and dryer, and lots of hot water... we loved the deck, private yet open with lots of light, and the fact that the house was set back from the street, well-hidden in a quiet little nook... Barb & Jay, you were the perfect hosts, easy to do business with, great communicators, thank you again for a rental that we enjoyed immensely and that we recommend to other vacationers without hesitation.
Just arrived back home from a wonderful week at Jay & Barbara's cottage in Waimanalo. I was there with my sister, son, and 2 grandchildren to celebrate my daughters wedding. We couldn't have had a better place to stay. It was perfect in it's simplicity and we felt at home the minute we walked in the door. Jay and Barbara had fresh fruit waiting for us and all the fixings for breakfast so we didn't have to rush out and go to the store. Many of our friends and relatives were staying at different rentals in the area but everyone always seemed to want to hang out on the lanai at our place because it was so welcoming. Even my daughter and son-in-law (the one's who got married) hung out there every evening. It's just a short 1/2 block walk to the beach which is absolutely breaktaking. We all had a great time romping in the surf. I will definately be returning and hope to stay several weeks on our next visit.
What a wonderful place! The cottage was even better than described - very sweet, cozy layout and excellent location. Everything you need! Easy walking access to the most beautiful beach. We had it mostly to ourselves all week. The location also was perfect for day trips if you wanted to check out other parts of the island - but really, why would you? Thank you to owners Jay and Barbara for their hospitality! We really appreciated the fresh papaya, breakfast food and extras that were waiting for us up on our arrival. We had several friends staying in the area and they all loved this place the best. If you're looking for a peaceful, relaxing getaway this is the place! Wonderful local eateries nearby and a real feeling of living in Hawaii. Thanks again!! We'll definitely be back! Mahalo!
Ditto to all the prior comments posted here. Wife and I, 9 year old son and older daughter here over Thanksgiving week. Would recommend! This is a great place to visit. Cottage is half block from the beach. Quiet laid-back peaceful "local" neighborhood. This is the "Un-Waikiki!" Incredibly beautiful beach, like being inside a postcard and not many folks around Despite feeling away from it all, the location is actually very handy to much of Oahu. Easy to get over to the city when we wanted. The owners live next door and aim to please. They had stuff in the refrig and food waiting for us jet-lagged mainlanders and were most kind and helpful. Advice on activities: while visiting the Arizona Memorial, don't pass up the battleship U.S.S. Missouri. We also enjoyed the Polynesian Cultural Center, expected tourist-tacky but it's well-done and lots of fun. The shore drive around to North Shore and Haleiwa is incredible; stop for lunch at the open-air restaurant at Turtle Bay.
My husband and I stayed here for two weeks with our three kids ages 11, 9, and 7 years old. It was a perfect place to stay for the five of us. It was clean and stocked with everything you could possibly need. We had plenty of beach towels and linens, beach chairs, a cooler, sand toys, boogie boards, a well stocked kitchen with plenty of pots and pans, and utensils. The cottage is bright and airy with plenty of room for five. My husband and I slept on the queen bed and my kids took the twins with my youngest sleeping on the floor on a folding mattress. The bathroom was clean and had a large stand up shower. I was worried about only having one bathroom and it really wasn't a problem at all. The outside lanai is very comfortable. There is an outdoor shower area as well as a washer and dryer and a grill. The cottage is within walking distance from Waimanalo Beach. It is a gorgeous beach that is perfect for the entire family. It is within easy driving distance to all attractions on the island. The owners are kind and were very attentive to our needs. We had a problem with the clothes dryer and it was fixed immediately. The owners also had the refrigerator stocked for us on our arrival with bread, milk, eggs, fresh papaya, and even tiny boxes of cereal for the kids. I highly recommend this beach cottage to others and can't wait to go back to our home away from home.
