5 Bedroom, 2 bath chateau provides comfort and style!
About Melvin Camden
As a result of buying this house, Phyllis and Melvin eventually bought the Hilltop Market across the street, which adds so much convenience to be able to shop right across the street for groceries, fresh meat, beer and wine, fishing supplies, etc. We sold the store recently to new owners who are extremely nice and committed to keeping the same traditions associated with Hilltop Market and we encourage you to shop there! We have lived in the area all our lives, been married over 30 years, and look forward to making your vacation the best possible by providing any assistance we can! Please let us know if you have special requirements and we shall do our best to meet them!

Why Melvin Camden chose Buchanan
Loved the charming house and the beautiful location next to the ancient river and beautiful mountains, its amenities, the cute window seat in an upstairs bedroom, the glorious possibilities which came to fruition when we renovated, the landscaping and grapevine in the backyard, the gorgeous mountain, river, and town views, the friendly neighbors--everything!

Overlook on the James River
We were in town for my mother’s 90th birthday and this was a great place for our family to stay.
Excellent for our needs.
We had a large extended family needing a home base for a short visit to the area. The house was perfect. It had space for everyone’s privacy & a roomy socializing area. Comfortable seating for everyone, which is often missing! The bathrooms & kitchen were well stocked. And the view, wow! Oh, the lovely fireplace was great on the chilly mornings.
Great place to stay!
The pictures do not do this house justice. It is in a great location and pristinely clean. Rooms are very spacious, and kitchen is well stocked. The owners were extremely accommodating. Our stay was great!
Small town gem
Our entire stay at The Overlook from booking to checkout was smooth and easy. The house is easy to find and convenient to the small, charming town of Buchanan. The large screened in porch affords marvelous views of the mountains and countryside. The Overlook is well provisioned with kitchenware, towels and other conveniences. We did discover that the ice maker did not work, but that was just a small glitz in a wonderful stay.
Thanks for your wonderful review. We are so glad you enjoyed your stay. We do leave a 10-lb. bag of ice in the freezer for our guests convenience.
We always have a great time. It is my hometown. Enjoy family. Too cold to sit outside this time.
Great. I missed my king size bed though.
