PANORAMIC VIEWS OVER INLAND SEA

This quaint 2-bedroom board and baton cottage is in Manaroa, Clova Bay, deep in the heart of the Pelorus Sound. Just metres away from the water and with breath-taking inland sea and mountain views, itā€™s the perfect get-away place for four. If you want to go fishing, swimming, walking or simply rest in paradise, this is 'your' spot. If you enjoy nature, peace and a quiet setting, this is also ā€˜yourā€™ spot.

The property is fully self-contained, comfy, with a simple cottage-like atmosphere. Nothing fancy, open plan living, retro and easy-clean with large mown grounds. Private Internet (restricted, not ideal for streaming movies, etc.) and Free View TV are offered. Phone reception is outside or on the beach, depending on the cell device.

A registered boat mooring is available upon request, and a boat launching jetty is located just 200 metres down the road. Shore fishing is pretty good, but fishing from kayaks or boatsis even better! Signature catches include snapper, gurnard, blue cod and other species. (Excellent bait fishing for children on the jetty.) Clova Bay is a 25- to 40-minute boat ā€‹excursion up and into the outer Pelorus Reach, as well as to the coast and Cook Strait, wherescuba diving is rewarding. You will also have access to hapuka beds.

So, if all the above appeals to you, this place of amazing natural beauty is where you wish to go. The location is regarded isolated due to its tiny population, yet it might be called semi-remote during the summer months.

Please note:
No dogs due to birdlife. No extra people or tents. Outdoor fish cleaning bench. All rubbish to be taken out when you leave. There is now a FREE refuse station ten minutes this side of the Linkwater turn-off: a composter is supplied for food scraps; your host will remove regular household rubbish but all bottles and cans must be taken with you ā€“ a fee will apply if left.

Vehicle travel time from Havelock is 2.0 windy hours, while from Blenheim it is 2.5 hours. There are no shops. The Portage Hotel is an excellent mid-way stopover. Coffee, bar food, and restaurant. Boat and water taxi travel from Havelock takes 50-70 minutes.

Little gem

What a stunning spot. We managed to work in with the summer weather and get time on the water every day. Plenty of fish & shellfish to enjoy eating and the views from the lounge chairs meant even when we were confined indoors it didn't feel claustrophobic. Reading Marion's book gave us extra special insights into the local area. Thank you.

Relaxed in Clova Bay

As you drive over the saddle into Clova Bay you leave the world behind. Lovely Bach with uninterrupted views overlooking the bay. Very comfortable with everything we needed. Great shower. Kitchen fully equipped. Comfortable beds. Some excellent walks around the bay and easy water access.

Absolutely awesome

My wife and son (10) loved this place. The photos donā€™t do the house justice - there is more space than the photos make you think. The three of us had plenty of room. We loved being 50m from the sea - I wheeled my kayak down to the water every day, and caught gurnard, kahawai, and snapper in the bay. It was about a 2km paddle to Grant Bay for blue cod. My son finally got more interested in fishing than screen time. The property was well presented and clean. It is a long trip to the nearest store, but thatā€™s not a problem if you plan ahead with your food. There is a nice walk from the DOC campsite 6 km down the road, and all the locals are friendly and have time to chat. The highlight were the wekas that came up to the deck every day trying to steal our shoelaces. We will definitely be back.

Stunning location

We absolutely loved staying here and didn't want to leave. It is a piece of NZ paradise. Loved the bach and in particular the awesome view from the lounge of the bay with the mountains in the background. So peaceful, we could have stayed longer

Peaceful retreat

It's a long and winding road to get here, but once you are here you won't want to leave! Simple but very comfortable bach with everything you need for a quiet, restful stay in pastoral surroundings.
