This three-bedroom, two-bath, private home is tucked away on the open water with outstanding views of the Gulf of Mexico. Beautifully furnished and appointed, this home provides the background for a vacation to remember for years to come!

The beach-style back yard has a beautiful swimming pool with a stepped shallow water entry that leads to the deep end. On one side, elevated on a platform, is a spa with the overflow cascading into the pool and on the other side is a waterfall. Built in seating rims the edges under the waterfalls!

The pier dock offers dockage for your boat as well as a great spot to sit out over the water and enjoy the sunset colors. You will have fun fishing off the dock or jump in, the shoreline offers a variety of tropical and local fish to watch while you snorkel.

The main level of the home offers two bedrooms, one with a queen-size bed the other with two twins, and an expansive living, kitchen and dining area all overlooking the gulf. A great covered porch off the living area is the perfect spot to relax and enjoy the views or dine outdoors. The master suite is on the top level with a king-size bed, a private bath, and open porch.

For those who can't leave their business home, Broadband (Comcast) internet service, WiFi, is available at this house.

Well appointed with linens, towels (bath and pool), a very well-equipped kitchen, central air, washer and dryer, dishwasher, microwave oven, gas grill. TVs in the living area and downstairs bedroom, stereo.

Boat lift at the dock and the garage is not available for guest use.

If swimming, fishing, and snorkeling at your own location is not enough Marathon offers a Dolphin Research Center which is open to the public for tours, a dedicated bike trail along US 1 which will take you from Grassy Key to the Seven Mile Bridge (the old bridge is a great spot to exercise and watch the fish below from a 'birds eye view'). The historic museum is a great spot to spend an afternoon and offers nature trails through a Keys hardwood hammock. Sombrero Beach, oceanside in Marathon, is another popular spot for a change of pace and Bahia Honda State Park, 20 minutes south of Marathon, offers more great 'Keys' beaches. Lots of shops, restaurants, and services are available throughout Marathon, even though you may feel like you are on a private retreat away from the world, grocery stores, drugs stores, bait and tackle shops and just about everything you could need on vacation is just minutes away. If you do not have your own boat there are many boat rental companies in the area that will let you bring a boat to your dock during your stay!

First Trip to the Keys!

This was the first time I had been to the keys since 1997 and my gosh was it worth the wait! We arrived on Saturday and quickly got to know the property. There is no pool and outdoor space anywhere like this outside of a waterpark or an exclusive resort! The pool has a shallow and deep end, and a beautiful waterfall running into the deep side. The inside of the house was very nice too. It essentially faces the gulf with huge windows and an equally huge deck. This area has so much seating that you could bring the entire family down to the keys with you! There's even another deck off the master bedroom for even further distance gulf views. The first day while walking out on the dock and watching the water a nurse shark swam by! The next day while sitting out on the dock and watching the waves a giant sting ray flew out of the water! There were many different fish swimming around too. So much marine life to see right from the dock! We rented a boat and went out to Sombrero Reef and did some keys style snorkeling. The waters are outrageously clear and blue. You can see all the way to the bottom, 5 miles off the coast. We saw dolphins, sea turtles, barracudas galore, tons of fish and ocean plant life. The weather was almost perfect considering it was hurricane season. We were in a tropical storm warning for 1 day as Hurricane Matthew rolled up the east coast of Florida, so we decided to go to Key West where it was sunny all day! There are some excellent restaurants very close by and La Nina has the best Cuban sandwich I've ever had. The Keys are most definitely different than the standard beach is but truly a must for everyone. There is nothing else like The Florida Keys in this country!

It is a great vacation spot and I agree you can entertain yourself at the house easily with the pool, dock, fishies and views without having to go anywhere else but it sounds like you got in a little bit of everything in a fun packed week. I hope a return visit is in the cards and next time you may need two weeks, one to go everywhere and do everything and one to do absolutely nothing but enjoy relaxation on the waterfront! Regards

Can't Wait to Return!

We went down to the Keys for a family reunion and picked Marathon as it is in the middle of everything. We had a great week exploring all the Keys had to offer and when we weren't running around we loved every minute spent at this home. The outdoor space and the pool was amazing. We couldn't drag the kids out of the pool! The pool has 3 levels of depth, which are great for the little ones that like to sit and play as well as the older ones who swim. It was so private and the views were spectacular. We saw all types of sea life snorkeling right off the dock, even a couple nurse sharks. We ended most nights fishing right off the dock as we couldn't keep the bait on the hooks the fish were biting so much. It was a great week spending time with family and this home was a great place to do it and we plan on doing it again!

Neighborhood Problems

We stayed for 3 weeks Jan.-Feb. 2016. The house is nice - but needed upgrades (the driveway-side deck is in terrible need of repair, the master shower doesn't function properly, no cable hookup to watch DVDs, scorpion in the house 1st morning in). The primary reason for our "fair" rating, however, is the outside, not the inside. First, the neighbors made it very clear renters are not welcome. Second, if you have a pet, be warned, the neighborhood is NOT PET FRIENDLY. While walking our leashed dog we were vicoulsly accosted by multiple dogs, causing us to change route and restrict our walks to one limited area. Don't think you can exercise your friendly dog down these neighborhood streets. In fact, one occasion we had to lift our 50 lb. dog up into our arms to fend off an attack from an unleashed neighboring dog. If you plan to bring a pet, reconsider this neighborhood.

Owner's Response: Dear Karen, I was sorry to read that your stay was not as hoped especially when so many guests have had wonderful vacations at this home over a span of many years. Your comments were brief about the house itself and more about the neighborhood so I hope you did enjoy the home, the amenities it offers and spectacular views. The few items you did mention about the home, the shower and DVD player I could have helped you with but I don't believe you made me aware of during your stay. We do have regular pest control service that does an excellent job but if memory serves you did not want them to do a service call when I offered and I don't believe you had any other bug issues during the rest of your vacation. I have no doubt the reconstruction that the neighboring property was undergoing throughout your visit undermined your enjoyment of the natural beauty you were surrounded by and it was not the tranquil out of the way setting our guests usually enjoy. Your comments about your walks through the neighborhood surprised me as well. It is the first time I have had a guest tell me they ran into issues with neighborhood dogs that aren't friendly or aren't on a leash so I am sorry that even away from the home and the neighboring construction noise you were unable to enjoy a relaxing stroll with your pet. I bike through those areas almost daily and in my experience find it a very pet friendly area by observation (and getting to pet the dogs I know) but I don't have a dog with me so I can't speak from your point of view or experience which was quite different and, as you said was one of two primary reasons for your "fair" rating rather than the property itself with the second reason being the neighbors you felt were unwelcoming to vacationers. The neighboring properties on either side of the home are vacation rentals also so whether it was owners or fellow vacationers in residence that were not welcoming I believe that was the exception rather than the rule and my wish is for all our guests to have a fabulous and memorable vacation and want to return. A return visit for you may not be something you would consider but I do want you to know you are more than welcome back, you were great guests, and if you do return I can't help but think you would have a great stay. It’s hard to believe that we spent our third week in 2 ½ years here. It’s very private, has everything without going anywhere. Over the past three years while kayaking near the dock we saw dolphins, sting rays, and manatees. Watching the sunset at the dock or from the second floor only makes us want to return. We’d recommend this place to anyone looking for a quiet yet close to Marathon.

Excellent Getaway

We enjoyed a week at this lovely home to celebrate the end of our daughters' first year of college. What a relaxing week! Lot's of great family time. The porches and views are spectacular, the pool is gorgeous and my husband enjoyed fishing right from the dock. Great location for a quick day trip to Key West too. Go, get away, enjoy!

Do I have to Leave?

We stayed here last year on a last minute trip and didn't want to leave. The pool area was amazing and we were able to catch lots of fish right off the dock! Sitting on the balcony and the dock watching the sun go down was a great way to end each day. Marathon was a great location for us as we were right in the middle of the Keys and got to experience Key West, Key Largo and Isle Morada, all within an hours drive. There was so much for the kids to do from the Dolphin Research Center, Theatre of the Sea, and the Sea Turtle Hospital. We also enjoyed using the kayak that is at the home right off the dock. We'll be back!

Located in the Middle Keys area on Grassy Key which is the north end of Marathon. Morton Street runs along the open Gulf of Mexico and at the west end is very private with a feeling of seclusion. Just minutes from Marathon proper for shops and services. Key West is 50 miles away to the south and the Upper Keys are about the same north of Marathon, a great central location for sightseeing excursions.

We use a credit card processor service and they will charge a processing fee of $29.95 for Visa, MC or Discover.

To hold a reservation the signed paperwork must be accompanied with a payment of the deposit and booking fee. 90 days prior to arrive a payment of 1/2 the rent and tax total is due with the balance due 30 days prior to arrival. If the reservation is made within 90 days of arrival the deposit, booking fee and 1/2 the rent and tax total is due and within 30 days of arrival the total would be due.
