About Kathy

I live and work full time in Anchorage, AK, moving here in 1998. My first trip to Kennecott was in 1999 and immediately fell in love with the astounding beauty. It just captures you; amazes you. After realizing I was going there several times every summer, I decided to become a part of the community. When I am there, I can be recognized by the greyhounds that are always at my side!

Kathy purchased this cottage in 2005

Why Kathy chose Kennicott

This property on Silk Stocking Row is the "Rodeo Drive" of Kennecott. The best place to be, the ONLY place to be. Near all the hiking trails to the mill, mines and glaciers. Historic town, and yet quiet on the road.

What makes this cottage unique

Screened in front porch is a huge plus! You can sit on the porch in the warm sun, watch the birds and listen to the glacier creaking and calving. The historic home has ALL the amenities including a FLUSH TOILET! Now that is a treat!

Sweet cottage in a sweet location

  • 5 of 5

What a special place! Everything was perfect, from the booking with Kathleen, to coordinate shuttle rides with Diane and Hannah, to the cabin, to the location and views. The cottage was clean, comfortable, cozy and well stocked. We loved the screened in front porch and having the extra outhouse made it more comfortable for the four of us. We can not wait to come back!!

THE END OF McCarthy ROAD:

plan to arrive at the end of the road an hour ahead of the day's last shuttle!

The shuttle ride between the Footbridge and the Main Street Kennecott takes approximately 1/2 hr

1. Arrange to park car

2. Haul luggage across the Kennciott River Footbridge

3. Catch the Wrangell Mountain Air (WMA) McCarthy Kennicott Shuttle Van

4. Walk 0.6 miles from main street Kennicott to the sixth historic cottage (#12) on Silk Stocking Row--has a screened in front porch

After arriving at the est end of the McCarthy Road, guess will need 45 minutes to park and pay, drop off and haul luggage/coolers across the Kennicott River Footbridge, and load into a Wrangell Mountain AIr McCarthy Kennicott Shuttle van (at the east side of the Footbridge) PLEASE allow at least 15 min to arrange parking at the east end of the McCarthy Road near the Kennicott rive and 30 min. to drop off/carry luggage. For heavy loads, a wheeled hand cart can be found at the west or east side of the Footbridge. NOTE: the shuttle service only allows what you can fit on your lap to transport. There is no extra room for luggage.

Be sure to contact Wrangell Mountain Air directly to obtain the current shuttle pick up schedule and rates, which adjust throughout the season to accommodate peak visitor periods: 907-554-4411

It usually costs $5 per person each way on the shuttle

There are 3 privately owned parking lots within the final mile of the McCarthy Rd. They vary in price depending on proximity to the Footbridge. Please determine a preferred parking option ahead to stream-line your arrival:

1. THe Glacier View Campground is 1 mile from the Footbridge: www.glacierviewcampground. com 907-441-5737

3. The Base Camp Root Glacier offer convenient parking adjacent the Kennicott River Footbridge 907-590-2854

GETTING TO KENNICOTT:

one way fare on the shuttle per person with luggage or cooler on a patron's lap is $5. Shuttles are very full so they cannot accommodate more luggage. For large groups with more luggage, contact shuttle ahead of schedule to possibly arrange an entire van for $60 one way. 907-554-4411

Once you have arrived in Kennecott, the Kennicott Copper Cottage is just over 1/2 mile from where the shuttles stop. Walk north on main street past the Kennicott Glacier Lodge, then head sharp right up the hill on the first road past KGL. Once you walk up the hill then Silk Stocking levels out. You will see a group of 3 historic houses on the right; continue past those 3 to the goup of 4 historic cottages. Kennicott Copper Cottage is #12, the 3rd house in this group of four cottages.
