It was really dirty & very out dated .

It was very dirty. Didn't appear to have been cleaned in a very long time. Also the appliances are so out dated no oven to cook in. Only a broiler oven .We were in town for Thanksgiving Holiday & I couldnt bake at all. Also dryer is none functional. It's located in a bathroom closet & you can't open the door because the closet doors don't allow .Also saw that the rent was discounted the day after I payed to rent but they charged me full price. I would not stay here again.

Management Company difficult

This house has everything that you need and was very clean. The house smells damp but we had little issue with that. Not fancy, outdated, but certainly adequate. Sun porch was a nice feature. Beds are old so not perfect comfort. (There is no wifi). There is deep water but only a walkout dock with swim ladder. This home is priced fairly!!

We had to drive 30 minutes EACH WAY to Mountain Lakes management office to get the keys to this home! (stole an hour of our vacation after traveling all day). If you are traveling I-85 it won't be as long to exit in SC on the way? The contract requires that you take your own garbage to "the dump"! Or pay $5 per bag for the cleaning service to take it! Don't we already pay a cleaning fee? A trip to the dump was NOT on my list of sightseeing activities at the lake! Lastly neither the contract nor the paperwork we picked up from the office (we arrived after hours) had the address to the home!! I used the map from the ad to get close and the picture of the home to find it. I messaged online and by phone for the call back, ever. There was an email message but when you are looking for a house in the country you don't usually have the service to retrieve that! (By then it was dark). If we hadn't had the management issues we would have enjoyed this home since we are not a high maintenance family.

In 1993, along with my wife, I left my Engineering Position with a company in the NorthEast Atlanta area and moved to the Lake Hartwell area where we began "MOUNTAIN LAKES VACATION RENTALS". The cheese has been moving constantly snce then. The Engineering background has enabled us to keep up with these changes.


We have been fortunate to be able to find quality employees who all live on or near Lake Hartwell. We have developed our own Web Site and also a Smart Phone friendly web site. We now list our rentals on several commercial sites such as VRBO and as well as working closely with local Chambers and both the Georgia and South Carolina tourism agencies.

Some agencies and/or owners have an extra charge for just about everything. Some even charge extra to furnish linens. With Mountain Lakes there are NO hidden mandatory charges.



Should you arrive and find that the home you chose it is not right for you FOR ANY REASON, we will arrange for you to transfer to another available home with no moving charges. All we ask is that you call us within 2 hours of your arrival.

What makes this house unique


Most rentals 'By Owner' add a cleaning fee of $50-$150, with Mountain Lakes the cleaning is always included in the published price.


EXTRA FEES: We have NO automatic mandatory charges.

PETS: In many of our houses (But not all) you have the option of bringing along your pet. We do charge extra for pets. Generally the charge is $75 per pet plus tax. Pets are usually limited to two per house. Be sure to inquire about bringing pets to the house you are renting. AND please be sure to tell us that you are bringing a pet when you make the reservation.

GARBAGE: We ask that you take your trash out when you leave. For many of our guests, it is routine to throw their trash bags in their boat when they are leaving the lake. If this is not convenient for you, feel free to leave the trash bags for the maid to take. If you do so, we ask that you leave the maid a suggested tip of $5 per bag.



Both GA & SC place the burden of paying Sales and Accommodations Taxes on the consumer, whether or not these taxes are collected by the Cabin Owner. We collect and pay these taxes so you don't have to. Taxes range from 7% to 12% depending on location and are INCLUDED in our posted rate. You will never get a bill “Out of the blue” for unpaid taxes on our rentals.
