We spent two enjoyable months, January and February, in this Myrtle Trace villa. As it says, it is right on the lake in a beautiful neighborhood with very nice and friendly neighbors. It's like a home away from home. It's great to wake up in the morning and have the sun shining in with a view of the lake. The owners are exceptionally nice and accommodating and very helpful with any questions. If you're looking for a great place to stay while vacationing in Venice, this is it!
Owners were excellent to deal with. Place was comfortable. Kitchen has plenty of pots and pans and dishes so it is easy to prepare meals. Area has many things to do and see and many nice restaurants. Even during Covid-19 , most places promote wearing masks, social distancing and using hand sanitizer. Many even limit number allowed inside. Very enjoyable trip.

Liked: Cleanliness, check-in, location
Nice unit and location with some Good and some Bad
First the good: The unit is similar to the pictures and is decent size for a family to stay in. We originally planned to have our daughters join us, but Covid changed everyone’s schedule so it ended up just being my wife and I. For two people there was more than enough room and the unit had all the basic amenities. Some furnishings/fixtures are a little dated, but the unit was clean and very functional. The location for us was also good as far as proximity to relatives, local beaches and getting to downtown Venice. The view out the back windows was very nice and we enjoyed it often over coffee and breakfast in the morning. The owner was easy and pleasant to work with and had the unit ready for our arrival. Overall the unit itself was nice and would work for most, if you can get past the one bad thing that we happened to encounter (see below).
Now for the bad: The one bad thing we encountered which was a challenge for us; Limpkin birds on and around the property. If you are not familiar with this bird, I would strongly suggest you do some research online beforehand and make an informed decision, as there is a notable population of Limpkins living around the water directly behind the unit. Limpkins are known as the “wailing birds” or “crying birds” and they lived up to their name during our stay, as they have an ear-piercing cry that unfortunately happens regularly both day and night. We rented the unit for all of March, and most nights we were woken up at some point by these loud shrill cries. They will settle down for periods of time, but there is no consistency as to when they start, it can be at any time during the night and can last from a few minutes to over an hour. Our first night they started at 1:56 AM (woke me up from a deep sleep) and went on until 3:30 AM. Then again at 5:30 AM for about 30 minutes. They regularly wail and cry at sunrise as well. After a few nights of almost no sleep I resorted to getting and using foam earplugs at night, which was enough to at least sleep though the middle part of the night. Opening windows at night was not an option, as the noise I am referring to was all with the windows closed.
We are regular visitors to Florida and specifically this area, so we are used to Florida wildlife and normal sounds at night, however Limpkins are a bit of an exception to the norm – so all I can say is do your homework and then make your own informed decision. If you are a heavy sleeper and/or some noise

Dear David,
Thank you for choosing to stay in our villa. I am sorry you didn't fully enjoy your stay because of the activity of the wildlife. We try our best to meet all of our guests needs by continuously updating our villa and providing amenities for our guests to enjoy. We have only owned this home for a short time and Covid also interfered with our plans to complete all the updates that we had planned this past year. We are happy to report we were able to purchase new furniture in both the living room and the lanai, as well as replacing some of the other furnishings this past week. Thank you for taking care of our home during your stay.
A friend and I are college baseball coaches that manage in the Florida Gulf Coast League. We stayed at this location with our sons. Centrally located to where we needed to get to the home was a great host.
Lovely house, beautiful outlook over lake - surrounded by trees - very tranquil!! Friendly neighbours - excellent community pool -
Really enjoyed our stay-
Quiet, secluded and in a wonderful neighborhood with friendly neighbors. As soon as we walked in the door, we felt at home. Lots of living space. We especially enjoyed having our morning coffee with the lake view and all the wildlife. We didn’t want to leave.

About the host

We purchased our home as a rental property moving from Naples to a smaller community with easy access to the beach and many nearby attractions. We live in Colorado and love watching the wildlife.
Why they chose this property
The lake outside the lanai teems with wildlife and is wonderful to observe. The neighborhood is perfect for walking with little traffic and is quiet and serene. Community members are friendly and there are social activities offered as the clubhouse.
What makes this property unique
The Myrtle Trace community sets under a tree canopy which is lovely for walking even in the hottest weather.
