About Craig or Julene Stortz
We have lived in immediate area for 35+ years, just purchased this additional property for it's uniqueness and beautiful setting.
Craig or Julene Stortz purchased this Cabin in 2015
Why Craig or Julene Stortz chose Canton
It is a very peaceful and unique setting in the Amish Valley only miles from town. Quietly nestled back in the woods, not seen from the road. With a spring creek running through it. Beautiful view of the sunrise and wide open sky with the stars at night.
What makes this Cabin unique
All Log siding inside and out, swing on the front porch to view the beautiful wild flowers, song birds and beautiful morning sunrise. Beautiful location only a 1/4 mile off the main blacktop road,

We stayed at the cabin for graduation weekend at Luther College as there were no rooms in the inn in Decorah. What a treat to stay at the cabin! It is large (we just kept finding more and more rooms/ space--including two rec rooms!), clean, quiet--simply lovely. The kitchen is well supplied utensil/ pot an pan-wise with all we needed to prep our meals. The living room is comfortable, there are all the TV options (if that is what you really want to do in this lovely location). Unlike a hotel, there are no hair dryers, irons, little shampoo bottles, etc.--which is fine, just be prepared and bring your own. We kept thinking of groups we knew that would like the cabin--women's groups, family groups, etc. Reading through the journal of comments from previous guests, it seems many shared our delight in the venue. Saw hummingbirds at the hanging flowers, baby birds (wrens?) being fed at the bird house hanging from the porch eaves (we viewed this as we enjoyed the fresh air on the porch), and in the driveway, an amazing red bird with black markings--I may have to become a birder. :) Thank you Amish Cabin for allowing us to share in your blessings!
cabin was very nice except for the prevalence of skunk odor. While not the innkeepers ability to prevent it from occurring a bit of heads up would have been appreciated. The front steps leading onto the porch were worrisome as there were deepish wide spaced ridges in them which were an ankle turning or tripping hazard. Disappointed in the Amish meal as the young lady (while) charming was very shy and unable to provide us with adequate descriptions of meal selections available : dinner arrived and we were served home canned chicken breast as we were told they had no fresh meat available. Disappointed as we paid $20.00 a person. The rest of the meal was just ok! Overall experience was good.
Beautiful cabin! We brought all of our family for snowmobiling weekend. Owners were very helpful with everything including telling us where and how to get to the trails. We will definitely be back!
Absolutely amazing place to stay
This is our second year staying at the Amish Cabin and we all love it. The cabin is cozy as well as spacious. The kids love the ping pong table and the theater room. I loved that the kitchen was full stocked and the cabin is very clean. The property is beautiful. Craig the owner is accommodating and arranged a sleigh ride for us. I highly recommend staying here. We will be back!
Fabulous amenities are priceless. Owner very accommodating
Fabulous place... highly recommend
Nice location and accommodations
"Amish Valley" is the perfect name! If you drive the gravel road, you'll see house after house with no electricity. The cooling/heating was a challenge but amenities are great. The outside living area provides a front porch swing and a fire ring. Craig and Angela were good communicators and very welcoming.
