Hook, Wine & Linger offers you all the comforts of home at an affordable price.

Located in North Portland, Hook, Wine & Linger is perfect for fishing weekends, family holidays or corporate stays. The property accommodates up to 6 people over 3 bedrooms with queen beds in all rooms and a sofa bed in the lounge that can be made up on request.

A newly renovated kitchen is fully equipped with electric cooking and dining table for self-sufficient catering plus a webber BBQ outside. An additional freezer will keep the daily catch cold. A separate lounge area offers a flat screen TV,  DVD player and heating.

1 bathroom and full laundry facilities including washing machine and dryer completes this property as a home away from home.

No frills accommodation

Hook Wine and Linger is located close to Portland's esplanade and is a short drive from the main street. It is unfortunately also located close to a main road so the noise of cars driving past is noticeable, particularly at night. We loved the firmer mattresses on the beds. While the property does everything it promises e.g. linen and a freezer. We felt the omission of basic items such as tea and coffee provisions, bin liners and a hairdryer, left this accommodation feeling underdone. We stayed here because it was one of the few pet friendly options available in Portland. It was nice that a dog blanket was provided but one of the fences in the backyard was quite dilapidated. It was ok for us however because the neighbour on that side did not have pets. Overall we would stay here again but with modified expectations.

We had to go and do a basic shop on arrival. Back garden excellent for dogs. Laundry area not usable. Drier not working.

Needs more amenities

The property is old but comfortable enough. The real issue is the lack of basic amenities like a dishwasher and proper air conditioning. The house is heated with 2 of the smallest wall mounted heaters I have ever seen and are really not adequate.There is no reverse cycle air conditioning which would mean it would be very uncomfortable in summer. The TV in the main lounge is also way too small. We rented the place for 2 days so we could fish at Portland but we found it hard to get our gear dry. Also, the plates in the cupboards and cutlery were filthy and we had to rewash them before we could use them which is probably due to the fact that there is no dish washer and the cleaners did not rewash the plates after it was last rented, which is a bit of an issues during the COVID period. The pantry could also be a bit better stocked with basic items which are sometimes forgotten by visitors like sugar. I have stayed in many other places in Portland and this one was possibly one of the more uncomfortable ones for anglers but could easily be improved with an investment into some basics. If there matters were addressed I would stay again

Would definitely not recommend

Showers were freezing and if they were not freezing they were boiling hot. No locks on the bathroom door. Cutlery wasn’t washed from previous people that had stayed. food on basically every single item. Majority of dishes also had food on them. Tiny heaters that don’t make a difference to the temperature. Only positive is that you can keep your boat in the the drive way.

Simple but comfortable

A simple but comfortable place. House and amenities are basic with simple/cheap renovation to kitchen and bathroom making it livable. Advertised as a fishing and family house. Driveway is narrow for a car let alone a boat. An outdoor area (with BbQ) and lounge with larger TV would be handier for a family. Great yard for dogs. There was a lot of road noise from highway and street being a thoroughfare. With a few more added touches /attention to detail with house maintenance (doors not closing, windows painted locked, no fans, flyscreens not fitting, laundry delapadated) this property has potential.
