lovely cottage

  • 4 of 5

The cottage is clean and nicely updated. It feels private, even though there are houses nearby. There's a nice view of the ocean. Only problem was barking dogs in neighbor's yard that went on for a while starting at 5:30 AM. Closing the window helped.

Very upgraded cottage. Comfortable. HOWEVER, the only negative thing is the barking dogs ( several) early in the morning and throughout the day time. VERY ANNOYING !!!!

Owner's Response: Hi Lana! Thank you for staying with us and for your feedback. Our apologies for the barking dogs while you were there. We've spoken to our neighbor today about it and will be meeting with them this week. We stay out there ourselves every few weeks, and there are times when dogs in the neighborhood bark and other times when they do not, doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason. In the event there is unwanted noise at night or early in the morning we have set up air conditioning units in all the bedrooms so guests can shut the windows, turn on the A/C and rest peacefully. Thank you again for letting us know about your experience, we'll be working on our end in any way we can to try and mitigate this for future guests. Aloha! Brook

Perfect!

  • 5 of 5

Perfect for our 2 day stay in Hana. Very clean, comfortable bed, wonderful shower. Kitchen was adequately stocked and thankfully had some coffee on hand! We slept with the windows open and could hear the waves in the distance all night. A bright moon one night made for one very confused rooster at 3 or 4 am, but we are used to being awakened during the night by animals so it was good for a laugh. Great location to hit Seven Sacred Pools, Venus Pool, Red Sand beach, Allele Falls and a wonderful lunch at Hana Ranch. We had a rainy afternoon one of our days, and we were able to sit on the porch and enjoy the sound of the rain. The only thing that could be better would be a change to the height of the vegetation on the bay-facing side of the porch to allow for a better view of the bay. The view from the kitchen and breakfast bar is astounding, but you can't sit on the porch and enjoy the same view. Would stay here again!

Owner's Response: Aloha Kendal! Glad you enjoyed your stay, and thank you for the feedback. We've trimmed the hedge lower so Hana bay is visible again while eating/hanging out on the porch. Glad you enjoyed your stay, hope to see you again soon! Cheers, Brook

Perfect cottage in a perfect town

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I spent 2 nights in this lovely cottage with our 4 year old son. The location was perfect with easy access to Hana Town. The cottage was very clean and modern and plenty spacious for our family of 3. The large grassy yard was perfect for our son to play in while we cooked dinner and prepared for our day. The shower was great and the bed was very comfortable. Beach chairs, towels and boogie boards were available for use and were greatly appreciated. Highlights of our time in Hana included touring Hana Gold Chocolates where we learned about the chocolate making process beginning with how to identify a ripe Cocoa bean, through opening the beans, fermenting, roasting and grinding and ending with a delicious chocolate tasting. Our entire family enjoyed this very much. Other highlights included Hamoa beach, Waianapanapa State Park and eating lunch at the Hana Ranch Burger food truck (make sure you try their home made ginger beer, YUM!). We enjoyed every minute of our stay and plan on visiting this same cottage for a longer period of time in the future.

Our home is located in the rural town of Hana, on the East side of Maui. There are beautiful beaches nearby, including Hana Bay, a 10 minute walk away, and Hamoa Beach, a 10 minute drive down the road, consistently named one of the most beautiful beaches in America, where we like to spend our time surfing, swimming with the kids, and lounging under the shady trees.

Lots of hiking to see waterfalls and swimming in fresh water pools, including Oheo (Seven Sacred Pools) that is part of the U.S. National Park Service and Waianapanapa State Park that has a cool volcanic grotto you can swim in, a black sand beach, and a blow hole along the coastline.

Or just relax on the covered deck, play some cards, board games, read a book, or enjoy a movie or two via the wireless internet on your computer or tablet.

There are many mom and pop places to eat, including a bright orange burrito food truck right in town with great burritos, coffee and pastries that is owned/operated by Andy and Tuna, a brick oven pizza place, Thai food stop, other 'plate lunch' stops, and fresh organic fruit and veggie stands where much of the food is grown organically right here in Hana.

There are two main general stores in town to get most of your basic necessities. If you want a large variety of food to choose from though it may be wise to get some provisions from the main part of the island before you head out to Hana. Our favorite food store on the island is Mana Foods, in the town of Pa'ia on the North Shore, where they're loaded with fresh, natural and organic grocery shopping, a deli, bakery and vitamin room. Although, we also frequent Hasegawa's General Store and the Hana Ranch Store in town during our stays.

The road out to Hana itself is half the treat, with dramatic scenery of the cliff-lined coastline, a couple of fruit stands (including a mobile creperie along the road in the jungle as you begin your journey!), and lots of hikes from trail heads off the road. As with any adventuring please be cautious and aware of your surroundings and weather conditions while enjoying the outdoors.

A tip for the drive out to Hana, pack a lunch with snacks and drinks, don't rush it, and pull over for faster drivers if they come up behind you. There are many pull-out spots, the drivers behind you will appreciate it, and you can relax and really soak in the beauty.

There is one gas station in Hana town, and none along the 2-hour drive from the main towns on the other side of the island, so fill up before you get here.

Hana is a tropical paradise, which means it has little critters like mosquitoes or ants at times, and don't be surprised by the odd chicken or two, mongoose, (cows, there's a beautiful working cattle ranch) or other wildlife in an around Hana town and the East side of the island. Our home is usually nice and breezy, and we have quarterly treatments of the outside and inside of the home with natural repellents, so there should be little activity of small critters, however, closing screen doors and cleaning up food after eating is always a good idea. We have some mosquito repellent there if you need it, just in case. And if you have any problems please let us know.

Our location is very convenient to the beaches, sites and stops in Hana, with great views, and as can be seen from the photos and mapping, we are in a residential setting. There can be some typical neighborhood activity including traffic on Hana highway, neighboring pets / dogs occasionally barking or local chickens that roam freely. We have a large redwood fence along the rural road and plantings around the property to make you feel tucked away. Feel free to get in touch with me to answer any questions you may have.

The 1br/1ba rental rate is $199 US/night, a one-time cleaning fee of $55 plus taxes and fees, which you can reserve yourself online. Maximum number of guests is 2.

The maximum number of guests we may have on the property is 6, if you have additional members in your party please call or email us, we can refer you to additional rentals in the immediate area to accommodate everyone.

We hope you enjoy your stay!!!
