Cute cottage, great location

  • 5 of 5

We really enjoyed the stay at the cottage and the location was quite convenient. We like the covered porch area to sit in. Having a coffee machine was great---not sure if its possible, but having some coffee beans at the cottage would be even better.

Nice experience

  • 4 of 5

Nice cottage, a couple of blocks from the beach (~8 minute walk). The property manager was nice about letting us drop our stuff off early. The kitchen is nicely set up and has most (though not all) of what you would want for cooking. Bedroom is comfortable and has a TV. The rooms are small so it can feel a little crowded but they're nicely set up. The porch is now completely blocked by the shrub in front of it (goes to the roof) so it's not as inviting as the picture looks. We had more of a mosquito problem compared to the properties closer to the beach.

Amazing 1 bedroom cottage with ocean views. We loved how clean and updated it was. As well, the deck, outdoor shower and laundry was a huge plus.

comfy cottage

  • 3 of 5

Our stay in this cottage was pleasant despite the rain. We received quite a few of the 300 inches of rain that fall on the area each year. The cottage was well equipped with everything we needed.

Owner's Response: Thank you for staying with us, we're so glad you enjoyed your stay! Sorry to hear about the rain. To clarify, the average rainfall in our area of Hana is about 55 inches a year. Unfortunately during your stay we had a state-wide weather system of rain that was very wet all over Maui. We hope to see you again soon to enjoy the amazing beaches and sites when its sunny and gorgeous!! Aloha, Brook

Our home is located in the rural town of Hana, on the East side of Maui. There are beautiful beaches nearby, including Hana Bay, a 10 minute walk away, and Hamoa Beach, a 10 minute drive down the road, consistently named one of the most beautiful beaches in America, where we like to spend our time surfing, swimming with the kids, and lounging under the shady trees.

Lots of hiking to see waterfalls and swimming in fresh water pools, including Oheo (Seven Sacred Pools) that is part of the U.S. National Park Service and Waianapanapa State Park that has a cool volcanic grotto you can swim in, a black sand beach, and a blow hole along the coastline.

Or just relax on the covered deck, play some cards, board games, read a book, or enjoy a movie or two via the wireless internet on your computer or tablet.

There are many mom and pop places to eat, including a bright orange burrito food truck right in town with great burritos, coffee and pastries that is owned/operated by Andy and Tuna, a brick oven pizza place, Thai food stop, other 'plate lunch' stops, and fresh organic fruit and veggie stands where much of the food is grown organically right here in Hana.

There are two main general stores in town to get most of your basic necessities. If you want a large variety of food to choose from though it may be wise to get some provisions from the main part of the island before you head out to Hana. Our favorite food store on the island is Mana Foods, in the town of Pa'ia on the North Shore, where they're loaded with fresh, natural and organic grocery shopping, a deli, bakery and vitamin room. Although, we also frequent Hasegawa's General Store and the Hana Ranch Store in town during our stays.

The road out to Hana itself is half the treat, with dramatic scenery of the cliff-lined coastline, a couple of fruit stands (including a mobile creperie along the road in the jungle as you begin your journey!), and lots of hikes from trail heads off the road. As with any adventuring please be cautious and aware of your surroundings and weather conditions while enjoying the outdoors.

A tip for the drive out to Hana, pack a lunch with snacks and drinks, don't rush it, and pull over for faster drivers if they come up behind you. There are many pull-out spots, the drivers behind you will appreciate it, and you can relax and really soak in the beauty.

There is one gas station in Hana town, and none along the 2-hour drive from the main towns on the other side of the island, so fill up before you get here.

Hana is a tropical paradise, which means it has little critters like mosquitoes or ants at times, and don't be surprised by the odd chicken or two, mongoose, (cows, there's a beautiful working cattle ranch) or other wildlife in an around Hana town and the East side of the island. Our home is usually nice and breezy, and we have quarterly treatments of the outside and inside of the home with natural repellents, so there should be little activity of small critters, however, closing screen doors and cleaning up food after eating is always a good idea. We have some mosquito repellent there if you need it, just in case. And if you have any problems please let us know.

Our location is very convenient to the beaches, sites and stops in Hana, with great views, and as can be seen from the photos and mapping, we are in a residential setting. There can be some typical neighborhood activity including traffic on Hana highway, neighboring pets / dogs occasionally barking or local chickens that roam freely. We have a large redwood fence along the rural road and plantings around the property to make you feel tucked away. Feel free to get in touch with me to answer any questions you may have.

The 1br/1ba rental rate is $199 US/night, a one-time cleaning fee of $55 plus taxes and fees, which you can reserve yourself online. Maximum number of guests is 2.

The maximum number of guests we may have on the property is 6, if you have additional members in your party please call or email us, we can refer you to additional rentals in the immediate area to accommodate everyone.

We hope you enjoy your stay!!!
