About Raejean Fellows

I originally found my way to Kirkwood out of frustration in driving Route 50 and Route 80 to the other Tahoe ski resorts. I was frustrated with the traffic and lift lines.

When I discovered that Kirkwood was built between 2 mountain passes and has, for years, had the best snow in the Sierra, I was hooked. Also, the power lines are buried, offering uninterrupted views. Not to mention the lack of crowds and long lift lines. I have also learned that, due to huge logging in the Tahoe area, the Tahoe forest was cleared in the 1800's, Today's Tahoe trees are 2nd generation. Kirkwood has "old growth" magnificent trees ( some of which could be 500 years old) and is adjacent to Class I Wilderness area. As a result we enjoy some of the most beautiful scenery in the Sierra.

Raejean Fellows purchased this house in 1994

Great Tahoe Christmas

  • 5 of 5

We were able to have 3 families stay together in his house for the holidays and it was amazing! The house is perfect for a lot of people, we skied every single day and came home and cooked our dinners with beautiful views of the mountain. Everything was perfect and we would highly recommend families staying here!

Great home in one of best East Meadows locations

  • 5 of 5

We had a fantastic week long Kirkwood family reunion (an annual tradition for us), for the first time on the East Meadows (we previously always stayed in homes right by the lifts). We had a great time and hope to be able to stay in the same home again next time. The home is bright and spacious, with great common areas, and plenty of quiet and private rooms for the babies to nap. The house is perfectly situated, with a large, gentle slope for the kids to play in the snow. The shuttle to the lifts worked great (most of the time -- holiday weekends are busy), but it was also fast and fun to snowshoe across the meadow to take the kids to the ski school. The owner was very responsive and helpful from beginning to end.

Family fun

  • 5 of 5

We spent MLK weekend with extended family and friends, some skiers, some non-skiers, ranging in age from 18mo to 50+ and every one of us had a phenomenal time! The house is perfect for lounging, entertaining, enjoying all the mountain has to offer, even if just sitting inside taking in the view. My 5yr old was crying as we left saying he was so sad our weekend at this beautiful mountain home was over. That said it all! We'll be back....

Family getaway

  • 5 of 5

We enjoyed this cozy and beautiful home! It was charming with its decor and had comfortable couches, swivel chairs and a sunlit window nook to snuggle with the kids and a warm blanket! We slept great every night in the beds and enjoyed our time cooking meals together in the kitchen! The views out the huge windows were unique to the experience. We especially liked soaking in the hot tub on the back porch. This home can be enjoyed by all!

Great House!

  • 5 of 5

What a great house. We spent a week over New Years with our family and friends, a total of 9 people and loved the house. Everyone slept comfortably, the floors tiles are heated: what a luxury! There is also a great hot tub on the deck overlooking the meadow and the mountains. The views are fabulous, the house is very comfortable, kitchen well stocked with every cooking tools needed. We love Kirkwood and enjoy bringing our dogs, this house also has great access to the Meadow for dogs walking and country skiing. I hope you enjoy your stay, we sure did!

Great, large ski house

  • 4 of 5

My extended family of 10 adults and grown children stayed here over New Year's week (2011). The house was roomy and comfortable, with great views of the meadow and mountains. The many levels make it easy for people to find their own private spaces. The 4 full baths made mornings easy. The long couches in the living room were great for lounging around and family time. With a little furniture-moving, following the owner's instructions, we were able to all sit around one table for meals.

To get to the slopes, you take a shuttle bus from the driveway. This is convenient in that we didn't have to worry about driving and carrying skis from the parking lot, but it does take a little while to wait for the bus in the morning and afternoon, and the bus can take a circuitous route to get back home, if there are a lot of other people on it. (Please note that the house we rented in Utah for many years was ski-in, ski-out, so we are spoiled in this respect.) This house is actually an easy walk from the village/slopes, if you're not carrying your skis. On our snowed-in day, and had a nice walk to the village store to buy some milk and drink hot chocolate.

The wireless network was great (especially at Kirkwood, where phone reception can be spotty). The kitchen was large and generally well-equipped, but surprisingly we couldn't quite find everything we wanted (e.g. blender or Cuisinart). We did make many good meals, though, and there was room for several of us to move around in the kitchen without bumping into each other.

We also enjoyed using the hot tub - right out the back door, one step away!

If we go to Kirkwood again, I'm sure we'd go back to this house.

Owner's Response: Just a note . . . There is a Cuisinart, blender, bread maker, toaster--they live in an appliance garage, tucked away to afford extra countertop. I will make a note in my "House Book" for future guests to find the appliances more readily. Also, the guests were visiting New Year's week--the busiest in the year. The shuttle is on-demand. I have not waited longer than 5 minutes. This was a lovely family--who booked a year in advance. They are welcome back anytime!
