About Janice Cretton

Janice Cretton is a local girl born and raised right on this property. She and her husband Dan have raised their 6 children here too, and they were homeschooled by Janice for 9 years. She has lived most of her life on this property. Now grandparents, they have 2 beautiful granddaughters who live on the Big Island.

Janice has a wealth of information to share with you about her precious island. All you have to do is ask. She also would love to fellowship and pray with you, as God leads.

Janice Cretton purchased this studio in 1948

Why Janice Cretton chose Haiku

Janice's parents purchased this property in 1948 when she was just 6 months old. She and her 3 brothers and sisters were raised here, and there were many precious memories created here. Then Dan and Janice and their 6 children also lived on this property to create even more wonderful memories. This will always be home to their children, and hopefully, home to their grandchildren as well.

What makes this studio unique

After our 6 children were grown and on their own, we decided it was time to build a new home. The termites were tired of holding hands to hold our old home up!! So 4 years ago, we decided to not feed anymore termites by building a termite-proof bamboo home! I love the idea that it is 'green' and eco-friendly, and at the same time, warm and inviting. The woven bamboo walls and high bamboo-studded ceiling create a tropical island atmosphere that is unique and relaxing. I invite you to come and enjoy my home on your visit to Maui!

Beautiful room on a quiet, out-of-the-way property

  • 5 of 5

Janice was a very friendly host who made sure we had everything we needed to enjoy our stay. The room was well-appointed and the bed was really comfortable! We didn't stay long on the property, as we were spending most of our time exploring the island, but Janice gave us some excellent advice about restaurants in the area, places in Maui to visit, and when and where to view Maui's wildlife. We would stay at Bamboo Heaven again in a heartbeat!

Beautiful, Idyllic and Peaceful

  • 5 of 5

This is a lovely setting, away from the crowded tourist areas but close to great restaurants and shopping in Paia and Haiku. It is located off the road to Hana. Janice's hospitality is unlimited. She has thought of literally everything and was always available for tips and suggestions. Sitting on the Lanai was so enjoyable that it was hard to leave for the beach which was nearby with surfers and kite surfing. We picked fruit from the trees in the yard which was an added treat. Our stay was thoroughly delightful and we hope to return again soon.

Beautiful Bamboo Heaven

  • 5 of 5

We really enjoyed our stay at Bamboo Heaven. Janice welcomed us to her home and we spent time together learning Hawaiian culture and tasting the many fruits from her property. We felt we had made a life-long friend and and will definitely stay here again if we return to Maui.

Thank you Janice

Owner's Response: Thank you Christine and Don for your sweet review. I know you meant Janice, instead of Carol, but I still appreciate your kindness! Just so people know who you're referring to. It was a pleasure to have you as guests in my home! Thank you for staying with me! Mahalo & God bless you! Janice

This was a great location for our visit to Maui.

  • 5 of 5

This was our first VRBO and we really didn't know what to expect. We found a great location and were greeted not only by our hostess, but by a very nice neighbor. Our hostess was a native and was able to answer all our questions about the area. We arrived to a nice plate of fruit and all that we needed for breakfast for our entire stay. Much of the fruit was from the trees right outside our room. We were pleased and surprised by how well the bamboo was integrated into the property. This would be the first place we would look on any return trip to Maui. If you are looking for a place off the beaten path this is the place.

Map

Car: recommended

We are located 7 min. away from Hookipa Beach Park, the windsurfing capital of The the world, and famous surf and kite-surfing spot. You will experience a real treat by driving there for the beautiful sunset, and watching about 30 turtles swimming to shore to rest!! About 10 minutes in the other direction is Jaws, known for its huge waves that surfers tackle with the aid of jet skis. Also in this area is Twins Falls, where you can hike to waterfalls, and cool off in the refreshing pools. Haiku is also the home of Haleakala Bike Company, who takes you up to the volcano for sunrise, then allows you to bike down the mountain back to Haiku on your own. A popular activity here is to watch the sunrise over Haleakala Crater. This is a good location to do that from. It is about a 1 1/2 hr. drive up to the crater, but allow 2 hours for traffic. So you will be setting your alarm to wake up about 3:30 am! A new rule has just been enforced, and you need to make a reservation ahead of time to see the sunrise! Only 150 cars are allowed in now, and it is already booked up! There is also Northshore Ziplines for an exciting adventure through the tropical forests of Haiku. A local bus line is only a few minutes away that will take you downtown for a couple dollars, if you are tired of driving. All the other towns on Maui are within an hour's drive away from our rental, except for Hana, which is more than a 2-hour dive. We are in the heart of Haiku town within walking distance to restaurants and businesses, but on a private almost 2-acre property that feels like you are away from all the hustle and bustle of life. You will enjoy this relaxing quiet atmosphere after a day at the beach or sightseeing. This tropical island retreat amidst God's beautiful creation will fill you with peace, love, joy, and strength for your next adventure on Maui!

When you stay at Bamboo Heaven Maui, you will be gifted with more than just a beautiful room! You will feel the aloha spirit here, and if you like, I offer you to experience some Hawaiian activities like a Hawaiian photo shoot, learn to dance the hula, open a coconut (if available), taste some sugar cane, & maybe even cut down a banana tree and harvest some bananas!! Of course, only if you choose to do it! If you prefer privacy, just let me know, and I will not be too friendly! I will always be available if you need anything or have any questions! Mahalo!
