About Michelle and Shannon
My husband and I purchased 12 acres of land in 2013 surrounded by the Great Smoky Mountains National Park and the Nantahala National Forest. Little did we know (for the thick pine saplings) that we had a Million Dollar View of a Horseshoe Bend on Fontana Lake and the Great Smoky Mountains National Park! It took viewing Google Maps to see what a gem we had found. We moved to Bryson City after selling our home and printing business in Fletcher NC (close to Asheville). My husband grew up in Bryson City, and I fell in love with this "Gateway to the Smokies" town when we built a house boat at Almond Boat Park in 2013, that now floats on Fontana Lake. We started building Eagle's Nest soon after starting the build of Eagle's Landing (our first completed cabin) in Nov 2014 with the help of some great friends and a very talented builder. This is a completely different lifestyle than we're used to, and we are incredibly Grateful for all the Love, Support, and Divine Miracles that We have been Blessed with along the way. Now we're ready to share Eagle's Nest with the world!
Michelle and Shannon purchased this Cabin in 2013
Why Michelle and Shannon chose Bryson City
There's a Peace here that we've never felt before. This place is awe - inspiring. It almost forces you to stop in your tracks every time you look outside. We built Eagle's Nest to give our guests the feeling they were floating on water...and sometimes in clouds. From the Living Room and both Bedrooms there are French Doors that open out onto a 728 sq ft (partially covered) deck that extends out over top of Fontana Lake. From the theatrical morning sunrise to the day's last light, the show this magical place performs is ever changing and always jaw dropping.
What makes this Cabin unique
We designed and built 'Eagle's Nest' to accommodate anyone. This cabin is ♿️ wheelchair accessible with a sidewalk and wheelchair ramp. The large master bedroom and master bathroom include enough space to turn a wheelchair within a 5 foot radius. Without much extra time and materials, we've tried to create a thoughtful home, keeping everyone in mind. We call this cabin Eagle's Nest because Bald Eagles are always near by the cabin. They can be seen flying close to the cabin's deck, playing in the air at eye level, and even diving into the lake after a fish. This is an unforgettable experience.

Great time with the family at Eagle’s Nest. It was perfect for our family of four and we loved the area.
View was amazing. The cabin was clean.
The location for this property is beyond perfect. The view is breath taking... literally. We were there only for one night and we could easily expend at least 2 nights in that little piece of heaven. Check-in process was very easy as Michelle (host) left the cabin ready and open for us at our arrival. The interior of the cabin is perfect. Design is on point, cleanliness was immaculate. Michelle (host) have thinking of all details necessary for you to know the property and the surroundings. The only reason for the 4 stars in accuracy of the online posting is because the cabin is right next to another one which we were not expecting but actually will be great if you are big family or group and rent both of them. This place is a gem and their owners have done a truly outstanding job with this property.
The property has an amazing view! If you need some peace and scenery, this is it. I enjoyed my coffee from the covered deck overlooking the lake below. The stars on a clear night are incredible! The cabin itself is adorable- and comfortable. The owners have put the effort in to make this property welcoming and enjoyable. It was spotless and had everything we needed. We look forward to booking again in the warmer months to take advantage of the outdoor activities in the area.
Renters Beware! Dangerous Property with Malicious Owners
There are 3 rentals crammed together on a ridge. Pictures are deceiving, leading people to believe there is one "secluded" cabin. Not only will you NOT have any privacy, due to the other 2 cabins next door, but the owners live in one of the cabins themselves! The owners, Shannon and Michelle, were constantly walking by, looking in the windows and trying to see what we were up to. They are also in the process of building another house on the property, so we heard loud construction noises during our entire stay.
DO NOT BRING KIDS TO THIS PROPERTY! We were surprised the cabins passed inspection, as they are built way to close to the edge of a shear cliff. One, if not all cabins, will likely slide off the cliff into the river in the near future. There is nothing to keep guests from falling to their death 200+ feet below. The place was trashed when we arrived, and Shannon asked why we didn't pick up a garbage bag, caught on some briers over the cliff's edge, before we left. It was there when we arrived, plus it would be extremely dangerous to attempt to retrieve it ourselves.
As soon as we left, the owners called, yelling into the phone about mud on their floor. It snowed 3 inches one night and we did our best to clean, but they supplied ZERO cleaning supplies. we even tried mopping with a rag and got screamed at by the owners for using "their precious linens". 2 of the guests on our trip were veterans (Army and Marine) with PTSD. We came for the view and remote setting to get away for a relaxing weekend. It will suffice to say that we did not have a relaxing weekend, and their PTSD was much worse after the owners kept looking through the windows and were extremely rude during and after our stay. The owners are clearly new to rental properties, and have no business being in the industry.
Unless you don't plan on going inside, don't expect to get your deposit back. They made up excuses to keep our deposit to help fund the new house they are building. There were pages torn out of their guest book; likely negative reviews that didn't suit the owners. Renters Beware: If you're looking for a relaxing stay, go somewhere else! Unbelievable.
It is unfortunate that these guests felt the need to lie about everything they wrote. It’s obvious based on the 100+ 5 star reviews from other guests. The truth is that these 3 young men decided to come to our home and drink themselves into oblivion. The only reason we know this is because of the vomit that was found in numerous locations inside and outside the home. They left broken wine and beer bottles all over the property, along with 100’s of cigarette butts even though we provide a cigarette dispenser. There wasn’t any trash outside when they arrived, and as always, our home was immaculately clean. The vomit stains and rank smell inside the cabin needed professional cleaning. Most all of our guests are incredibly respectful of our home. When we called the guest to ask why they trashed our home so badly, he said it’s just a rental, why should he care. We would never look inside the cabins windows while guests are staying in them. The only reason we were anywhere near the cabins is because we were scraping the road from the 3 inches of snow to keep our guests safe on the road. We would never yell or scream at our guests. We simply called as a courtesy to let the guest know we were going to have to keep his $200 damage deposit which didn’t even cover the repairs needed. We had to pull up our hardwoods as the vomit had stained the floor in numerous locations inside the home. We also had to repaint areas of the walls where vomit was splattered. Our photos are not deceiving at all. Our homes are perfectly safe with fencing anywhere there is a steep incline. Many families return here with their children every year. We do have 3 homes that are 50’ away from each other and are separated for privacy by 12’ tall arborvitae trees. This is clearly described on our listing sites. In the 5 years we’ve rented our homes, this was by far the worst our home has ever been left. As a matter of fact this was only the second time In 5 years that we’ve had to keep a guest’s deposit for the amount of damage that was left. Our guests are most often wonderful people who leave our homes in great condition. We are grateful for them as they are for us.
