From the moment we walked in, we were so excited to be there! Bear Necessity was even bigger and more beautiful than the pictures showed. Every detail was thought of, from the cozy living spaces, to the fully stocked kitchen that had everything we needed. Plenty of room in the house for everyone. Oh the views!! Waking up each morning to the mountains right outside the window was breathtaking, and in the evenings we hung out in the hot tub under the stars. It felt peaceful, private, and like a true retreat. The pool table and the space it was in was awesome for bringing everyone together for endless fun! We would come back in a heartbeat and highly recommend it to anyone looking for a mountain escape. Our host was fantastic with communication from the moment of booking all the way through our stay. Bear Necessity is a must for your next mountain escape!
Perfect, beautiful location and an easy drive to Wilkesboro Community College for the MerleFest bluegrass festival! The house was well equipped, the hot tub was marvelous and the view was spectacular! We may rent again next year!
Our family enjoyed this spacious house with rustic-cabin charm combined with all the comforts and conveniences we needed, and with quick access to the highway for attending to and hosting various wedding activities in Boone and at Sky Retreat.
We had a great time staying at this property. The home is beautiful and the views from the wrap around porch and living room are amazing!! The large windows allow nice natural light to come in. The area is quiet and nice. We encountered some minor issues but Leanna was on top of the communication and solved the issues for us. We were 15 people in total and it was perfect. We would definitely stay here again. Thank you!
My family enjoyed our week in the mountains to see the fall colors. Bear Necessity cabin was amazing, it had everything we needed. It was in a great location. I hope that we can stay there again in the future.
We stayed with our 2 teens, our adult children, their spouses, and our 4 grandbabies. The cabin was everything we wanted and needed for the week for all 14 of us. The owner was so kind and responsive! And the cabin was just incredible. Would love to return and would absolutely recommend!
We loved this mountain home. The gated community felt very safe. The house was well stocked. The layout is great for multiple families. And the views are breathtaking! Definitely recommend!
House was very nice and in a beautiful location. Only complaint would be that the hot tub didn’t work. The trash was also not picked up when we arrived but owner was accommodating upon checkout and the bags were left on top of cans outside.

We began acquiring vacation rental properties in 2011. We have two houses on Hilton Head Island where we vacationed with family many times before taking the plunge in investing in our own beach home. Our first purchase in 2011 was very successful so we decided to partner with family to purchase a cabin in the mountains. This one was more difficult to decide where we wanted to invest but we are so happy with our choice of buying a place in the High Country close to so many year round outdoor activities and charming towns to explore. Our final purchase was another home in Hilton Head. Managing the three properties and partnering with quality services to make sure our guest have the best experience is our goal. We love sharing our homes for others to get together with friends and family and make memories.
Why they chose this property
The second we saw this property after months of looking, we knew it was the one. Selling factors for us were the location, convenience, view, quality of the construction, and being large enough for our extended family to enjoy together.
What makes this property unique
Many homes in the High Country can be remotely located impacting wireless service and ability to reach them in the snow. Our cabin has great wireless service and is off of a major highway that is among the first to get snow removed. Other distinguishing factors are the outdoor space including 2000 square feet of deck space, great deck furniture the 8 person hot tub fireplace, and firepit.
