About this property
PIRAJA. Near the park São Bartolomeu Independência da Bahia,
Pirajá is considered one of the main war shocks of the war for the independence of Bahia, being fought in the area of Cabrito-Campinas-Pirajá. ... In the main square of the neighborhood, Pierre Labatut, the French combatant general of the Battle of Pirajá, has his remains in the local pantheon. One of the largest remnants of Atlantic rainforest in urban areas of the country. It has great environmental, historical and religious importance. The São Bartolomeu Park in Salvador involves an environmental preservation area of the Copper River Basin (São Bartolomeu), including a dam and waterfalls.
It is located between Cabritos Cove and the Pirajá neighborhood. The Copper River flows into Todos os Santos Bay, in Cabritos Cove.
In ancient times, the region was inhabited by the Tupinambás. In the second half of the 16th century, the Jesuits founded the village of St. John the Evangelist, near the current St. Bartholomew Park. In the 17th century, it was the scene of the struggles against the Dutch invasion. It later became a quilombola shelter. In 1826, there was formed the Quilombo dos Vultures, decimated some time later.
The park's trails are historic, they were used during the battles for the independence of Brazil. Close to the park is the Pantheon to General Labatut and the Church of St. Bartholomew, founded in 1608.
São Bartolomeu Park was created by municipal decree No. 5363 of April 28, 1978, neighboring Rio do Cobre Park. It is planned to join the two parks, which have a total area of 450 hectares.
