I am a San Diego Native and lived for many years in South Mission until I had to move inland because I was getting too lethargic about work. (An innate risk with the property, you've been warned) :0) When not working (Management & Technology Consulting and Real Estate Development), I love travel (50+ countries), sailing, surfing, golf, hiking and all the other outdoorsy activities San Diego offers.
Adrien purchased this condo in 2003
I purchases this vacation rental in South Mission Beach because of location! location! location! South Mission is close to Belmont Park/Wavehouse pool and the most affluent and mature part of Mission Beach. Walking to everything you need is a nice luxury. Mission beach is also the only community in San Diego where the Beach and the Bay are in such close proximity to each other. I chose the 2nd floor of the building so that I would have privacy from the people on the boardwalk but low enough to stay connected to the beach.
I also tricked the Audio/Visual of the rental out so that my tenants have access to NetFlix, Playstation, and Flat-screens in every room. There is also auxiliary jack for music players.
Walking to everything is a very special feature. I like walking over to Canes to grab a margarita and appetizers to watch the sunset, or pull my cayak or sailboat down to the bay for an afternoon sail.
I'd like to invite any guest comments.
Potential guests I encourage to contact me and ask for references. I aim to make your experience the best ever. I don't have any guest with a bad experience. If any of my scores of references do not endorse that my vacation rental is not one of the best valued locations they have experienced, then I don't deserve your business.
We were an adult family of 5 and an infant of 13 Months. I would not recommend trying the air bed- not much room for it. Overall we had great success with this condo- such easy access to the ocean beach in about 5 minutes 👌A very simple market and liquor market within a block. At this visit we had No hair dryer- very meger coffee maker. My son entertained us with surf boarding each day.
This 2 BR 2 BA condo was in a convenient location - walk to everything on Mission Beach area - & had great, peaceful views! However, there are many items to be fixed! Upon arrival, we did not receive the code for the bldg. front door. How frustrating! Once we called & r'cd it, we went up to the 2nd floor. The hall light in front of condo B was out, making it difficult to find & open lockbox, get key, & open condo front door in the dark!! The bayside door knob fell off when we tried it. That bolt lock was missing inside locking lever. The wall outlet between sliding glass door & kitchen was missing cover (floor level). Very dangerous, especially w a 14 month old there! Frig leaked water. Balcony rail was unsafe (too wide spacing) for a young child. Hall bath round towel holder crashed off wall -- couldn't hang hand towel on it! Light flickered in master bath -- even when shut off!! Also, the kitchen cabinets (base & wall) were all raised about 6 inches up--very high for shorter people!! A step stool was provided. The carpets were beach carpets at the end of a season & needed a good shampooing or replacing. Our Dodge Caravan was a challenge to fit into the garage, especially when Condo A was already parked in adjacent space! We enjoyed our stay here, but wished the unit was better maintained & code complying! Was comfortable for 4-5 people. Very, very crowded for 9 as advertised!
Overall a decent place, great location, needs someone to spend a day or two fixing it up to be in better condition for the price he is charging. Yes it is quite warm even in October, as the bay side doesn't get that breeze, so it gets a bit stuffy inside especially in the afternoons. (There are a few fans) Had trouble getting in contact with the owner and after numerous emails and phone calls to a number that was no longer his, was able to connect prior to our departure. Apparently he had trouble with his property manager and so no one was following up on our communications, but that panicked me bit. The unit definitely needs some TLC. There were items that were mentioned on here on other reviews that I was told were fixed and were not. The Fridge leaked water all over the floor (hazard/slippery) the ice machine didn't work, the handles on a few kitchen cabinets were broken. Many lightbulbs through out the unit were out, the hall closets to Master were a real struggle to open/shut. There is a light in the master bath that just flickers all night. Insufficient lighting throughout bedrooms. Building needs an update, dirty carpets, musty smell.
Whole place was badly maintained and only had two bedrooms. One bedroom sleeps 5 and one sleeps 2. Cannot sleep on blowup mattresses--no room. Owner knew about issues and told us they ha been addressed. Owner never responded while we were there. Can't recommend to anyone.
I booked the property from the Homeaway App that said the house had a/c (it has fans that feel like a hair dryer blowing hot air during San Diego's summer). My family spent 5 sleepless nights in a sauna because of their false advertising. Quick service when booking the room that doesn't translate to quick service when the television will not turn on(I fixed it myself). Location is probably unbeatable for a quite bayside retreat if you only care about location. The house advertises to be high end and lacks the upkeep needed to make it high end. I would not recommend this to friends or family unless the price was half of what they charged me.
Out of 10:
Service-2 (quick for quotes, not so much after)
Environment-3 (several holes in sheetrock not patched, door handles missing, closet doors will not slide open, not enough electrical outlets, windows that are held open with a stick)
Cleanliness-2 (black mold in middle bathroom's shower)
WiFi-3 (not made for more than a couple devices)
Cable TV-2 (probably 10 channels in English and most are local news)
Parking-2 (not made for mini-van. Make sure you have a back up camera or a ground guide)
Sustainability-1 (guide inside says they recycle, however they don't have a recycling system in place. We left our recyclable items on the counter during our week.)
Thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Bay. The Kitchen was easy to cook and entertain in and the bed was so comfy. I can't wait to stay again. I really enjoyed staying here.
Wavehouse/Plunge/Belmont Park (mini-amusement park and giant pool, mechanical wave)/
Sea World (Best waterpark in world)/
Cabrillo Monument (best view in SD)/
San Diego Zoo (Finest Zoo in the world)/
Gaslamp (Old Downtown, young hip scene)/
Balboa Park (SD's Central Park)/
Wild Animal Park (2nd only to African Safari)/
Legoland (Amazing for kids but expensive)/
Aerospace Museum (for the engineering mind)/
Old Town (for great Mexican food/vibe)/
Del Mar Race Track/Del Mar Fair (Proper SD tradition)/
Mexico (For beautiful foodie culture, recommend Ensenada 40 minutes South)
Yay! I love SD. We have so many great attractions and the people are lovely too. :0)
