Renters Beware! This is not a Home nor a Cottage, it is a very old Trailer!

  • 1 of 5

First and foremost, this is not a home nor a cottage as it was listed on the HomeAway site! Secondly, there was no cooktop stove or oven and were instructed by the owner to use the portable two burner hot plate, toaster oven, and an electric griddle. Since we were there for the week I had planned to cook our meals and was unable to do so due to no oven or enough burners for pots. Just an FYI a whole chicken does not fit into to a toaster oven! The set up of the trailer was very uncomfortable for my husband and me, the "living room had a very small sofa comparable to a loveseat with a kitchen table and four chairs. Needless to say, there was no place to stretch out and relax after a long day of riding. The kitchen had minimal dishes, pots, and utensils with no counter space. The smoke alarm went off every time we tried to cook and or if we used the toaster. The sunroom a very narrow room had a small futon sofa and a lounge chair but the tv in that room was way to small and not possible to view from the lounge chair. As for the bedroom, the bed was so bad that I had spent many nights on the small sofa. Later to find out the bed frame was broken! Miriam, the owner made it clear that the bifold door in the rear of the property was touchy and to lift it to close! Since the parking was in the rear this was the main door to enter and exit from. The washer and dryer that was also in the listing Miriam, again explained that the washer had a few problems and the dryers button was stuck and won't turn off! I did not feel comfortable using either appliance and waited to until we got home to do the laundry. The lanai had a table with four chairs a lounge chair and 2 sitting chairs along with a wicker sofa and again way too much furniture for such a small area. We contacted Miriam regarding the parking and was assured there was ample parking for our truck trailer but when we arrived Miriam told us to park on her neighbor's property she did not think they were coming down! The parking space was a small patch of dirt with trees and a canal! Please know, for all the years we have rented properties for our vacations this was the worst! The owners listing of her property was so deceptive and we knew we have been had! Again, this is not a home nor a cottage it is a very old trailer! I was so disapointed and in disbelief, this was our vacation home. I have true photos of the trailer and will be glad to share!

Sorry HomeAway but this was a real "BAD ONE

Owner's Response: Since Home Away does not have a "mobile home" category, we have to use the "cottage" category, which by definition is "a small, modest dwelling". I have asked HomeAway to include a "mobile home" category for years, and once they have one, I will happily change to that category. The Listing, clearly says "Mobile Home" in the very first line, and also states "tiny house with add-ons". If you hover over the items on the listing you, it shows all the information regarding the kitchen appliances, and the photo also shows as they are. The convection oven does fit a 12' pizza, and has a rotisserie. And, my pricing was still less than a dirty Motel 6 during Bike Week. We are disappointed that you did not bring the bed issue to our immediate attention, where we could remedy for you. You mentioned that you are used to staying in a 3 bedroom house with your friends during Bike Week...a very different experience than a mobile home in a tiny house community.

March 3-10, 2018 - Week before Bike Week

  • 5 of 5

We really enjoyed our stay at Mariam's place. There were only two of us so we had plenty of room. We had room to park our truck, trailer and two bikes (it was tight but it worked). We loved the screened in porch and being able to open the windows and let the breeze in. We really have no complaints regarding our stay except the bed, we kind of rolled in the middle. However, I can offer some suggestions/insight for people who will be staying in the future (these are always things I look for when reading reviews).

- If you like fluffy pillows, bring yours from home, we usually do this anywhere we go.

- The bedroom windows do not have a curtain and the evening sun sets on that side of the house causing it to be extra warm in the room and bright early mornings. I went to the local Dollar store hoping to find Navy curtains to match the house theme but could not find any so I purchased a flannel backed table cloth and hung over the curtain rod. It definitely made a big difference in the room.

- The location is literally right behind Destination Daytona

- We did go for the beginning of Bike Week and it is a little farther out from Main St where the bars are but I was aware of that when I booked my stay

- The washer and dryer was an added bonus

- There is a ton of storage space to put your belongings, if you want to hang all of your clothes, bring some extra hangers

- There are pots/pans, silverware, cups, microwave, griddle, skillet, coffee maker, toaster, convection oven, two burners and a blender - all the essentials

- We would definitely stay here again!

Thanks again for allowing us to stay at your place!

Great Month

  • 3 of 5

Our host was very welcoming....the unit was clean and comfortable... the camp had some planned activities which we attended and enjoyed. It was basically a quiet camp other then the train which ran nearby and ran more often at night.

The sites were fairly small...and parking wasn't great.

For the short term it was good but I'm not sure for a long term stay it would be our choice.

You could get to a short time, but roads were busy.

We are back in Winterland and missing your Florida weather!

This property was BEAUTIFUL!

  • 5 of 5

My boyfriend and I came here to vacation with our dog. We loved it so much! It was quiet and beautiful , easy to get to places from this location. Not only did we love it but so did our dog !! She became "known" in the park that this place is in , and everyone would give her treats and pet her. This is a VERY dog friendly place! We would have not wanted to go anywhere else but here! This place was stocked with everything we pretty much needed , towels... washing machine , pots... pans , etc. Not only was this place beautiful , but the owner Miriam was also amazing! She was very patient (as we had to drive 20 hours) - she waited for us and adjusted her schedule so she would be able to meet us upon arrival! She made sure we had everything we needed and told us about the area also - and what places are "dog friendly" and anything we needed to know. Very responsive when we would message her about things we weren't sure about considering we weren't from the area. We loved it here , everything was AMAZING! We will be coming back very soon!!! - thank you Miriam!!!!

You Get What You Pay For

  • 3 of 5

Our accommodations were a bit of a disappointment. One of the sleeper sofas that was for our teenagers was a very uncomfortable short foam fold up love seat and the other was a uncomfortable futon. We ended up being 15 minutes from the beach and shopping and the community pool had hazy water. The trailer was clean and the air conditioning worked great, but we had ants within the first few hours. The owner was very nice and was on time meeting us and gave us an extra hour to check out. I would not recommend this for other than a couple or possible a couple with a small child.
