Private, compact, earthy, and adorable, with thoughtful touches

  • 5 of 5

I stayed with my 10 year old daughter, and we had a great time lounging around watching movies in the evening. Couldn't get the tv situation to work, and there were only adult-ish titles in the movie selection, but we just streamed Netflix instead. We thought the Murphy bed was comfortable and all the little nooks and crannies were fun to check out. It had everything we needed for a 3 night stay!

Wonderful stay in an adorable tiny house

  • 4 of 5

This is a delightful little tiny home to stay in while visiting the Bitterroot. The home has so much character and attention to detail. The surrounding land is peaceful & relaxing. Its a short drive into the town of Hamilton, but far enough away to be peaceful. Being near a creek there are lots of song birds (they wake up early!) and a few deer wandered through to graze in the nearby field. The owners have thought of everything you will need when you stay here, the kitchen has a nice set up with a full size fridge, convection oven, microwave & two hot plates. There is even a Berkey water filter system. Be warned this is a TINY home, so if you are more than one person know that you will be cozy but it is still doable. There are also a few things regarding tiny home living that you will want to be prepared for prior to your stay. The property manager or owners will review them with you so you know how to work the water system, fill the water tank when needed & use the composting toilet. Its a little bit different kind of stay, but it really adds to the adventure. Two things to be aware of: the water heater is on-demand and TINY, so although there is a shower you may not get a long luxurious hot shower and the sun comes up really early in the Summer & since the bedroom window faces East be prepared to wake up with the sun (if you are sensitive to light I highly recommend a sleep mask as not all windows have coverings). Other than that its a really fun place to stay, there are outside chairs & a fire pit.. You are far enough out of town that the stars are spectacular at night! The "living room" is cozy & comfortable with a TV, DVD player, and small movie selection-- you do need a step to climb up into it, but once you are there you can really nest in. The place does get warm in the Summer, so althought I wasn't planning on using the AC unit I recommend leaving it on to keep the place cool down during the day (and avoid the struggle of trying to cool it down at night). I found the murphy bed really comfortable and since it was just me staying there left it down for the majority of my stay, having no need for the "dining table". I would definitely recommend staying here to my friends & family, not only for the novelty but also it was a comfortable, safe & enjoyable place to stay. The owners make wonderful hosts & make sure you have everything you need. I will surely stay here again on future visits to the Bitteroot.

For outdoor enthusiasts the Lewis & Clark's Tiny House #1 is a dream come true. The Bitterroot Valley is known for its blue ribbon fly-fishing and just three miles down the road from Lewis & Clark's Tiny House #1 brings you to Anglers Roost, where you will find convenient river access. For the golfer, the golf course is only 5 miles up the road from the lodge. Some of the best snowmobiling, and cross-country skiing is just 16 miles up Skalkaho HWY. Numerous hiking and cycling trails line every mountain and canyon in the valley. Great downhill skiing, snowshoeing, or snowmobiling is only 45 miles away at Lost Trail Powder Mountain, on the border of Montana and Idaho. You really can ski in both states at once!

For those who like to poke around town Lewis & Clark's Tiny House #1 is located between Hamilton and Darby, both with vibrant historic downtown shops and restaurants. Antiques, art, museums, books, coffee...there is something for everyone in the Bitterroot Valley.

In summer you can drive over Skalkaho Pass (MT HWY-38) -a dirt road- to the little mining town of Phillipsburg famous for it's sapphire mines, where you will have fun finding your own precious stones sifting through buckets of dirt from the mine.
