About The Owner

I am an owner manager and have lived on the island for over 40 years. Providing personal care to my guests to make sure they have a memorable Hawaiian vacation is my top priority. My two grown children grew up, spending their childhood experience along the ocean at the back yard of this property.

The Owner purchased this house in 1987

Why The Owner chose Hauula

We are right on the ocean, nothing between the property and the water. There is a reef two hundred yards away, creating a safe spot for swimming & snorkeling. Turtles are seen swimming at the backyard. The mountains in this area are especially lush. My children grew up in this home, thus it means a lot to us. My wish is to extend the aloha to all of my guests who stay at Hale Makani Kai so that their vacation will be full.

Guestbook comments from the manager

The weather was great, the hike was wonderful. Best of all was your hospitality.

Thanks for everything. Mahalo.

Aloha, I had a really fun time. Wish to come back soon!! Best wishes to all of

you! Thank you. Loved it! From Shea

Oceanfront. Great For Families. Great Value.

  • 5 of 5

We come to the North Shore every year. This time we brought extended family and chose this place because it had all the amenities we were looking for 3 bedrooms, 2 baths, air conditioning in the bedrooms, washer and dryer, ocean front all at an affordable price for the average family - PRICELESS!

We were four adults and had plenty of room to spread out. The house is spotless, the beds are comfy, linens soft and towels fluffy. It is well equipped and had all we needed to prepare our own meals. We barbequed and had many memorable meals on the deck overlooking the beautiful ocean view.

We especially appreciated the air conditioning in the bedrooms. October can still be warm and it was nice to sleep at a comfortable temperature. During the day we opened the doors and let the trade winds cool down the house, very relaxing, very Hawaiian.

The location of this rental is away from all the hustle and bustle of the normal touristy places. Here you can make yourself at home and pretend to be a “local”. Tamura’s Market and Longs Drugs is just a few minutes away and have everything you need to stock up for your stay. If you don’t feel like cooking, Papa Oles and Domino Pizza are in the same strip center as Tamura’s. Papa Oles’s has good traditional Hawaiian cuisine and Dominos has yummy sandwiches you can take out for a day at the beach. Tamura’s poke is some of the best on the Island. Pounders Restaurant at the Polynesian Center is excellent if you feel like sit down restaurant.

We would definitely stay here again and highly recommend this rental to people looking for all the amenities it has to offer. That said potential renters should know this house is not close to Waikiki, Honolulu or most tourist attractions except the Polynesian Center. Depending on the time of day, plan on an hour drive to Honolulu or Waikiki. We enjoy driving around the island and visited different places of interest each day with no problem, Haleiwa, Dole Plantation, Aloha Stadium Swap meet, Waikiki, lolani Palace, Pearl Harbor and more. Regarding the traffic noise, it was not an issue for us. The air conditioning drowns out the noise at night.

Gorgeous View!

  • 5 of 5

Loved listening to the ocean as we relaxed in our home away from home. It's a bit of a drive to Pearl Harbor and Waikiki, but not unmanageable. The home is located between the Polynesian Cultural Center and Kualoa Ranch, both of which we took advantage of.

Great value for an amazing view!

  • 4 of 5

Most important to me are.....price, cleanliness, and comfort. This rental met all of my expectations in those areas. It was the most affordable unit I could find in the area that was so close to the ocean, had 2 full baths and not just 2 but 3 private bedrooms. There is a 4th but you must pass through it to access a bedroom so it is not totally private. With beds to sleep 8 it is a large unit. The sofa in the living room was very long and comfy too. The well stocked kitchen had full sized appliances including a washer and dryer which were full size! No dishwasher but that is not a big deal to me. No tv in the bedrooms which makes me happy. It's sad to me to think anyone would come to Oahu and watch tv at all. Each bedroom had a window a.c. unit which kept our sleeping temps perfect. Speaking of sleeping, I found the beds to be in excellent condition and very comfortable. The sheets were so soft and cool that I actually checked the tag so I can look into purchasing them for my own home. The bath towels were plentiful, soft, thick, and perfectly clean. Regarding cleanliness, everything in the unit was quite clean and in working order. The deck is massive and the view from it is incredible. Not just the sunrises and surf, but the moonlight! And the breeze on the deck is fantastic. The owners were very responsive to us. They brought us a grill, some beach chairs and a small ice chest when we asked. The ceiling fan in the living room needs to be repaired or replaced and the owner said they will do that now that they know about it. And it would have been nice to have a large enough table to eat at on the deck. There is a small round one out there but the weather has gotten to it. Perhaps a 6 foot folding table would be a good idea so it could remain inside and be brought out when needed. Visitors really need to heed the owners instructions about closing windows as rain came up suddenly several.times and the wind can push it into the home. And trash needs to be sealed as well as possible when placed in the trash cans because the bugs like living on the island too! Owners keep a good handle on that and no creepy crawlers got inside the home. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and I was already telling friends about how awesome it was before we even left. I would gladly stay here again.

Fun stay, excellent host

  • 5 of 5

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay, as we always do, in Hau'ula. The house is upstairs and you have to bring bags and climb the stairs which can be an inconvenience. When we arrived it was very hot and the islands were experiencing an abnormally hot and humid period so the main living space was warm. There are air conditioners in the bedrooms which helped a lot. The view is great and we were able to snorkel in front of the house. Tish and Lance were very helpful and gracious. There are three bedrooms and the five of us were comfortable and the evenings on the deck were quite relaxing in the ocean breeze. We really enjoy Turtle Bay Resort beach access and restaurant. We could park near the resort (there are spaces for beach goers) walk to the public beach and enjoy refreshments at the bar. Tish recommended Pounders which is a restaurant that is part of the Polynesian Cultural Center. The Poke salad was exceptional and the family insisted we eat there twice. As a ukulele player I recommend the Ukulele Experience (a store that sells ukes but also has an excellent display showing how they are made) located also at the Cultural Center shopping mall. We would definitely stay again.

Relaxed living on the North Shore

  • 5 of 5

The property is right on the beach and was the perfect location for a few relaxing days on the North Shore. The house was clean, well maintained and had everything we needed for a short stay.

Our host, Tish, was an absolute treasure. She was flexible with our arrival and departure times, gave fantastic advise on things to do in the local area and where to shop for food and supplies. She even arranged for a piece of jewellery we left behind to be delivered to Honolulu. She went above and beyond before, during and after our stay.

I would recommend this property to anyone looking to unwind away from the hussle and bussle of Waikiki. The North Shore has fantastic beaches, awesome 'shrimp trucks', and plenty of outdoor activities for the whole family. A fantastic place to stay.

Cabin on the beach

  • 5 of 5

This property is more like a cabin on the beach. We loved the fact that there were no dry walls through out the house. This is a upper unit with a gated deck so it worked great as a closed play area for my young kids. We had breakfasts on the deck every day. There were plenty of room for my husband, parents and two busy kids. The place is also very clean and comfortable.

The view from the cabin is amazing! One side is the ocean and other side is the lush Hawaiian mountain. There is a sandy beach with calm water within one minute walking distance. My two and four year olds can swim in the water with floating devices. There is also a state park close by and you are in a rural town with real local people.

We also enjoyed the location. It takes less than an hour to get to Pearl Harbor, Waikiki and Diamond head, and takes about 30 minutes to get to north shore. We didn't mind the drive cause the entire way is just beautiful!

There is a lower level rental and it is located by a busy high way, but it didn't bother us at all. We didn't even see the other guests because it's private enough that you won't see them sitting in front of their unit. The noise is canceled with the noise from the AC unit. I was worried that the noise might keep my kids up, but all six of us slept well during our stay. We will rent this property again!

Map

Car: recommended

Hauula was a small fishing village on the northeastern coast of Oahu, with most homes designed and used as beach houses. Today, it is known as a weekend hideaway for city folks as well as a local artists' community. Since we are located at the coastal area, all sorts of ocean activities such as swimming, diving, snorkeling, fishing and surfing make your stay filled with fun. You may also want to take a scenic drive up the North along Kamehameha Hwy. The Polynesian Cultural Center, Turtle Bay Resort and Golf Course, Sunset Beach, Waimea Beach, and historic Haleiwa Town are within 5 to 30 minutes drive. Grocery stores are 2-4 miles away. Hauula Loop Trail is a little known yet excellent hiking spot nearby.
