About Stephanie

My husband and I were searching for a new place to live after having our home in Cape Cod, MA for nearly 25 years. When we discovered this area of Maine we knew that we had found someplace very special. There is beauty everywhere you look and a deep sense of home for us here in Prospect Harbor, Maine.

Stephanie purchased this house in 2005

Why Stephanie chose Corea

We decided that a weekly rental property was something that I might like to do. After hosting our friends and family for stays at our home on Cape Cod for 25 years I decided that it might be fun to have guests who will be taking care of themselves!

We looked at a number of properties to buy but when we saw this 1860 old farmhouse in such sad condition you could still see the charm that was still there and the history of generations of one family owning the house since it was built. The icing on the cake was when we went upstairs to see two of the bedrooms in the attic part of the house. Those rooms were so much like the bedrooms where my sister and I have such fond memories of growing up in an old schoolhouse that our parents bought.

It didn't hurt that the farmhouse sits on one of the most outstandingly beautiful harbors in Maine!!

What makes this house unique

My husband and I get pulled to the outside porch. The views, the hummingbirds, the eagles, the lobster boats, the long history of the working life at sea all call to us and the time drifts by making you so relaxed that you don't want to leave!

Awesome! Real Maine vacation!

  • 4 of 5

We stayed here for a family reunion, with 10 people inluding 4 children (ages 15, 13, 4 and 1) finding a suitable house was a challenge. The set-up here worked well for our needs (one note the bedrrom that is also a playroom is open to the stairs and I would consider more a "loft" you do have to walk through it to get to the last room). I have done a lot of VRBo rentals and this was by far the most thoughtfully stocked and prepared house. Everything you could ask for in the kitchen, flashlights by every bed in the event of a power outage, the cooler and bucket for lobsters. Printed directions to get to some of the areas hikes and trails and an informative binder. We even found an extra sippy cup in the kitchen after we lost one. LOVE all of this! Also this is away from the hustle and bustle of bar harbor, we went in to that tourist trap twice and I couldn't wait to get back to the Young farmhouse.

Only two downsides and with all of the positives I would definitely stay here again. First, the matresses are very uncomfortable. Very. Also, there really isn't water acess, it sounds like there used to be a wharf that is now private. We missed being able to walk right out onto the rocks and fish/tidepool/explore. On the plus side find the little hike to the island and you can play on the rocks, fish and tidepool to your hearts content. We never made it to the island itself because of the tides but it was a great find. You can also hike from there all the way around the point (some bouldering required) and you end up right by the lobster co-op which is just next to the house.

Overall a fantastic experience and we loved this place! I want to move to Maine!

Owner's Response: We're happy to hear that our guests enjoyed their family reunion in Maine. Each of our guests receive a floor plan of our house so they can see ahead of time where the 5 bedrooms and 2 & one half bathrooms are located. We don't wish people to be surprised by anything and you can clearly see that the two bedrooms located upstairs in one section of the house do indeed require you to walk thru one bedroom to get to the other one. Usually because it's family or close friends traveling together this is not and has not been an issue. Our short rental season here along the coast of Maine gives us about 12 - 14 weeks, 7 of which are filled with people who return year after year with up to 10 years returning. No one has ever complained about our beds in the 12 years that we have been renting and upgrades with mattresses have been made during that time. We like our guests to be as comfortable as we would in our own home. A fine Maine day to all. We are blessed to live here! Stephanie & Joe DePasquale Prospect Harbor and Corea, Maine

History, a working harbor, and "home"

  • 5 of 5

For the fourth straight summer, I returned to what is no doubt the best house to rent in the serene tranquility that is Corea, Me. My new dog and I settled in for an extended stay and, as always, found everything we would need available in this wonderfully restored 1860 Young Family Farmhouse. The sunset views from either the living room or outside on the covered back porch are unparalleled and the sweeping view overlooking Corea Harbor is so soothing. The owners, who live in the adjacent village, are always available and take care of the immaculate house and grounds during your stay. The interior is like a mini history museum and splashed with color throughout. Whether cooking a lobster dinner for one, or many, or just reading a book indoors or out, the homey feel of the farmhouse is conducive to utter relaxation. And the cooling sea breezes are at their best on the side of the island where the farmhouse sits. All in all, a true "home away from home." I hope to return for years to come.

Owner's Response: Thank you so much for your kind and glowing review. Our goal is to provide warm comfort but at the same time have the modern conveniences that people expect today. Corea is a destination itself and it's people like yourself who appreciate that and we are grateful for your return visits. We look forward to seeing you again!

The Real Maine

  • 5 of 5

My goal in renting this lovely farmhouse was to create lasting memories for my husband, myself and family especially my six grandgirls. Corea is a "piece of heaven" and a secret that I would selfishly like to keep to myself but it must be shared. The farmhouse met every need and overlooking Corea harbor every morning brought a whole new meaning to a cup of coffee. Stephanie and Joe were extremely helpful in planning this rental and are not very far away if needed. When they remodeled the house they were so thoughtful in preserving the history of the house by displaying old pictures and materials found in the walls. My girls still talk about going to the island on the causeway collecting sandollars while knee high in salt water or going to the big Corea beach down the road. I think they are still combing seaweed out of their hair! This property lets you experience "the real Maine". My mission was accomplished.

Owner's Response: Taking the time to spend with family, especially all of your grandgirls, are moments remembered probably for their lifetime! We are very pleased the history that we tried to incorporate into the renovation of our Young Farmhouse was noticed and appreciated by you. We hope that you will return someday for another stay in Corea, a special place where you step back in time, we feel. Stephanie & Joe

This is the seond time we have stayed in the Young Farmhouse and just like the first time everything was perfect. The house was very clean and well maintained. The updates that have been made to the home make it a very comfortable place to stay while keeping that nostalgic feeling. The backyard provided us with spetacular sunsets over the harbor and a wonderful place for three active little boys to run around. I highly recommend this house to anyone looking for the peace and beauty of Corea. We enjoyed daily walks to the beach and island and loved spending evenings barbequing and playing in the yard. Nearby Fishermans Warf restaurant was excellent for a dinner out. We also visited nearby Schoodic pennisula with its awsome and inspiring views. In one word everything was perfect.

The jewel of Corea

  • 5 of 5

For the past 11 years (with and without my dog) I have stayed in six comfy cottages and homes ringing picturesque Corea Harbor. All have had wonderful views of the harbor and bay, but this past summer, my chocolate Labradoodle and I found a place in which we truly felt at home: the immaculate 1860 Young Farmhouse. I had thought this beautifully restored structure would be more than my dog and I needed, but we used just the downstairs to perfection. Each room in this five bedroom house is colorfully and thematically decorated, the kitchen is chock full of everything one needs, and the master bedroom on the first floor with the double sliders facing the harbor provided comfort for us both and soothing, clean ocean air for sleeping. The view of the spectacular westerly sunsets from the living room or the red Adirondack chairs on the wood patio outside the bedroom is unsurpassed in the village. And the sweeping expanse of green behind the house is ideal for taking in the view or enjoying a book and a nice glass of wine as the fleet comes and goes. And, if you're inclined to cook up a lobster, the village co-op is nearby (the "Lobstah" buckets can be found in the shed attached to the house).

I most appreciated that the owners have left nothing to chance in providing for one's every need. Although I always bring household items and other necessities with me wherever we stay, this house came complete. As a dog owner, I particularly appreciated the in ground tank out back in which to dump the daily "business," which was broken down by chemicals. As I said, the owners thought of everything.

For those who are adventurous, kayaking, cycling and the nearby Schoodic section of Acadia National Park are available.

From what seemed to be original hard wood floors to the fascinating historical displays about the Young family and the house's origins, this gem of Corea beckons us back for more summers to come.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Young farmhouse. The owner has tastefully restored and decorated the house, so that you feel as if you are in your own home. The memorabilia from the farmhouse, which is displayed throughout the home, is interesting and merges the visitor into the history of the farmhouse. The house is exceptionally clean and the kitchen is a delight to work in.The farm is located in an idyllic spot, as Corea is pure Downeast, ME. It is a perfect spot to relax and watch the lobster boats come and go, and it is wonderful walking territory. The sunsets, viewed from the farmhouse's deck, are stunning. We brought our golden retriever with us on vacation, and he was as relaxed as we were, once he got used to the seagulls in the yard! We have been coming to this part of Maine for over 20 years and this location is ideal. We enjoyed eating at Chester Pike's and Jordan's, both on route 1. Cooking lobsters at the house, which we did 3 times, is convenient and easy. We had internet access problems at the start of our stay and the owner was immediately helpful in resolving the problem.

Owner's Response: Making people feel as comfortable as if in their own home is something we strive for. And for dogs too! We had guests stay this summer with their adult children who said that our Corea farmhouse made wonderful memories. We hope that happens with all of our guests!
