Peaceful Kentish Country Cottage - just 35 minutes from London
Located down a long private drive with far reaching views over the surrounding countryside, Hawthorn Cottage built in 1880, was originally part of the neighbouring Hop Farm, where it was used to house the hop wagons. Now converted, it provides an idyllic rural setting for a peaceful visit to Kent. The variety of attractions in the area are unlimited and include the Kentish towns of Maidstone, Royal Tunbridge Wells and Sevenoaks; Leeds, Hever and Scotney Castles, and historical attractions such as Chartwell and Penshurst Place. The local area also boasts All Saints Church at Tudeley, the only church in the world with all windows in stained glass and designed by Marc Chagall. Situated just 4 miles from the town of Tonbridge, London can also be reached by train in 50 minutes. Hawthorn Cottage is an ideal location for your stay in Kent.

We loved our stay! Perfect cozy cottage for a family retreat. Thank you for sharing your beautiful cottage with us. Would love to stay here again next time we are visiting family. Absolutely perfect and peaceful!
The house was excellent for our holiday, clean and beautiful. So much to do and see in the surroundings. Lovely hosts, they react very quickly when you have a question.
From this location, a person can comfortably tour southern England and the London area and return "home" each night. Very comfortable and clean. Good pub within walking distance.

Thank you for your kind review John. It was a real pleasure to host you.
We loved our stay at the cottage. My 3 and 5 year old enjoyed the swing set, and we had some nice muddy walks along the nearby river. The cottage was clean and comfortable with a great layout and the hosts were very responsive. We’d love to stay again, thank you!
The Cottage was lovely, had everything we needed. Peaceful location but in easy reach of everywhere we wanted to visit. The hosts are on hand if you have a problem, we didn’t have any, Everything was perfect
The highlights were the setting which was peaceful and quiet, as well as the level of cleanliness and comfortable beds. Otherwise it was a very mediocre experience: tired furniture, teeny tiny shower with no place to put soap or shampoo but the shower floor, pretty dismal heating system, no television streaming services which have become quite typical at vrbos, completely inefficient clothes dryer that took 2 hours to complete a load. The biggest disappointment however were the owners. Although they did respond promptly to a couple maintenance issues, they pretty much ignored us for 5 weeks without checking to see if we needed cleaning, toilet paper, garbage bags, anything. Seems they thought they would enjoy the financial gain of our long stay without having to pay an iota of attention.

We're sorry that our holiday let was not up to your standards Shannon - perhaps holiday lettings work differently in the US. Our intention was certainly not to ignore you but to give you the peace and quiet that most of our guests appreciate. Thank you for noting however our prompt response when there were a couple of issues that required attention.
Das Haus liegt in einer ruhigen Wohngegend und ist gut mit dem Auto erreichbar. Man hat die Wahl zwischen schönen Spaziergängen river medway und der Besichtigung historischer Bauten. Insgesamt empfehlenswert.
I cannot say enough about this property and the owners. The cottage is well equipped and comfortable beyond measure. The owners are so kind and accommodating! I stayed here in 2019 with my mother and step-father and came back for the one year anniversary of my mother's passing of COVID. Mom loved this cottage and we had such an amazing time! I couldn't have been at a better place to commemorate her and have a peaceful and comforting place to do so. I hope to be back soon!
Roland and Lorna were extremely welcoming hosts. The cottage was well equipped and there were some lovely surprises when we arrived. The cottage was ideal for three adults although the third adult in the twin bedded room had to go downstairs if they needed the loo in the night. Not a problem for us! The only negative for me was that we couldn’t get to grips with the electric oven. The temperature seemed to be really high even though we kept turning it down. Being unused to this cooker it may have been something I was doing wrong! The cottage’s location is absolutely perfect for many places including Scotney Castle, Sissinghurst, Chartwell and Hever Castle. We visited all of these and the cities of Tunbridge Wells, Tonbridge and Canterbury. I have no hesitation in recommending this property.
I read the previous reviews and can say that I echo much of what they say. I only really have positives to repeat or add.
The cottage is precisely that, so if you are expecting wide, open spaces then you actually only need to go outside! The size of the cottage just adds to its charm and was just right for me, my wife and 4 year old daughter. The facilities are as advertised and mean the place is just like a home from home. The internet is just fine provided you don't overload it with devices - but the surrounding area, with its proximity to the river and multiple walking trails, means you can leave the iPhone at home and get out and explore.
You definitely need a car to get out and about to the shops but then if you come expecting everything to be within walking distance in the country, you need to think again. This is not a negative though. By car, just a 10 minute drive away you have Tonbridge centre, multiple supermarkets and more shopping outlet estates one after the other than I have found anywhere! So it was great, we could pop out and get whatever we wanted for lunch and come back to enjoy the outdoors. On that note, the outdoor space is fabulous. 15 minutes away there is also Hayesden Country Park, recommended by the hosts, which is great for a day out to feed the ducks. Beltring train station and others are also very close by if you want to take the train to Maidstone or London, for example. If you do take a taxi, I can recommend Castle Cars of Tonbridge.
The hosts Roland and Lorna could not have been more helpful, did so much for us and we will miss them and Bodger the dog, although are already planning our next visit to be honest. Thanks for everything!
So do not be concerned about booking this place, you will not be disappointed in any way!

Thank you for your kind review - it was a pleasure to host you.
Ronald and Lorna are lovely, nothing was too much trouble. The cottage itself was beautiful with a roll top bath in the on suite master bedroom. Area lovely and quiet and only a 7 minute walk to the pub where the food is beautiful too. We would most definitely book this cottage again as we will be visiting Kent again. Highly recommend desirable cottage and area!
Nicely updated cottage, but retains rustic charm. Small, but cozy and comfortable. Easy train commute to London. Several restaurants/pubs within walking. Will want a rental car to get to town/train station, and to visit surrounding sites/attractions.

Nice cottage in a lovely situation. Quiet and peaceful lots of birdsong to hear. Pleasant change .
Cottage well equipped and comfy. Compact accommodation and clean. Wi-Fi a bit hit and miss but that is not unusual in a rural setting. Well placed for visiting houses and gardens. Really enjoyed out stay .
