Large family house with heated pool

A warm welcome awaits you at Chezfreddie, a traditional Charentais house in a quiet village, offering holiday rental accommodation. Chezfreddie’s accommodation is equally suited to family holidays or groups of friends. Rated 3 stars by the Department, we are open all year. Short rentals (3 days or more) are available outside the summer season.
The house has double, twin or triple bedrooms sleeping 13, with 2 cots also available. All bedrooms are en-suite, double-glazed and centrally heated. The owner lives on-site.
Downstairs is a large dining room with wood burning stove, a quiet lounge with TV (French and English channels), and a well-equipped kitchen with gas range, electric oven, microwave and fridge/freezer. A laundry room provides a dishwasher, washing machine and drying facilities
The 1.5 acre garden offers an 11x5 metre heated swimming pool (opens late May) level play area for football or badminton and a games terrace for table tennis or darts. A barbecue is also available.

A thoroughly pretty and peaceful area of the region, busy with wildlife. A lovely house, very spacious and all the basics are covered. Our host was very amenable and very pleasant to liaise with. We particularly enjoyed the eccentric local French trumpet player .

Great family house

We had a get-together with 3 generations of our family at Chez Freddie. The house is extremely well-equipped, there was plenty of room inside and out. The garden and swimming pool are way better than the photos, and Tony is a very welcoming host.

We had an excellent stay at Chez Freddie. Tony was the perfect host, attentive but unobtrusive. The property was ideal for our mixed age range family with a lovely pool, large grounds and plenty of games both outdoors and indoors provided. There is no access to Netflix but a wide range of DVD's provided for evenings if you wish. Every room has an en suite, which is a bonus, although some are shower only there is easy access to toilets on both levels. Some rooms have fans too, which is a nice addition on hot evenings. The area is lovely with plenty to do. Hope to stay again!

Excellent family place

Very friendly reception, very clean and well-equipped kitchen. Excellent and huge garden with many games: football, volleyball, table tennis and not to forget Darts! Pool very nice and quite big, bicycles with quite a selection. Wonderful big family place, fishing in the Boutonne right next to the house with own boat!

Lovely stay

The garden and outside of the property is far better than shown on pictures and highly suitable for young kids or even teenagers. A fenced off large garden with many outdoor activities on a big lawn was very useful. The inside is spacious for large families, albeit with the interior somewhat dated and in need of a few repairs / refresh. Tony is an excellent host who was very obliging to all requests and on hand at any stage. Thank you!

Excellent base for days out

The hose was an ideal base for 10 of us most on motorcycles for having days out. The house was clean and has a kitchen which has all you need to cook if you want to. As luggage space is limited on the bikes the washing machine was a godsend. The host was great and was on hand in the next building if required. The dining room and lounge were comfortable and big enough for our whole group. There is a 10 minute drive to the nearest town with a supermarket and bar and restaurants which was pretty good. The house itself was in a quiet location ideal for relaxing All in all we had a great stay in a nice location. Thanks for a great stay Tony.

Family Holiday

This is a spacious, very well-equipped house decorated in typical French style. Tony was friendly and helpful and on-site next door in case of emergencies. We did not want for anything. The location is fairly remote and quiet and but absolutely stunning - just perfect place for a quiet family holiday with children with plenty of local markets during the week. However, the house did smell a bit musty and to be honest it was very tired. Some of the tiles around the pool were uneven, loose and missing grouting which was a bit tricky with the little ones. Also, rotten fallen apples were left on the lawn attracting a lot of flies which was a bit unpleasant. Overall it was an amazingly spacious and comfortable house with lots of family games on site, table tennis, badminton, boules etc. Brilliant. TCH

Beautiful house in a beautiful location

Travelling a long distance by car can be quite daunting when you don't know what awaits you at the other end. However having had regular contact with Tony before setting off, he made it clear we could check in any time and was very flexible. This made things more relaxing without the need to rush. He was excellent with communications from the start well before we set off and was happy to answer any questions we had. Having arrived in France and updating Tony on our estinated arrival time, he again made us feel relaxed about our arrival time, even though it was going to be about 1-2am, he would wait up for us. He greeted us when we arrived, and showed us around explaining about the house and the grounds. The house was beautifully furnished, and was full of character. We were a family of 13 with 2 little dogs so needed a large house. We all slept really well in the comfy beds, and had plenty of bathrooms to use. The kitchen was large and had the basics like seasoning, coffee and tea and plenty of fridge and storage space available, with washing machine and dish washer available also. The garden was very large and well presented with lots of space to run around for both the kids and the dogs. The dogs loved it having the secure space to run around it. There is an electric gate to the front which we were given remote controls to operate which made life very easy for leaving and entering, leaving the house secure. The garden was full of games like swing ball, football goals, volleyball net, badminton racquets, table tennis, and everything to use them. It was great for doing an Easter Egg Hunt with lots of places to hide them. Tony checked in with us every day to see that we were OK and to help with anything that we needed help with. He was very friendly and couldn't have done anything more for us. Unfortunately we weren't able to use the pool as it was too cold and out of the summer season, but it looked lovely in the gated area and would be great in the warmer months. The area is very quiet, perfect if you want peace and quiet away from the busy life. Great for little walks with the family and dogs. We really loved the house and would definitely return if we returned in a large group. We would certainly recommend this house and Tony for any holidays where you are travelling in a large group.

Un séjour très agréable en famille de 3 générations. Maison agréable, fonctionnelle, très bien équipée jusqu'au moindre détail ! Les extérieurs sont incroyables : un grand terrain avec des jeux extérieurs, une piscine très appréciable avec ce beau soleil, un grand salon de jardin où nous avons mangé matin, midi et soir.Maison bien située au calme, à la campagne, bordée de petits chemins de randonnées. Plein de documents à disposition pour des visites (on avons testé le Geocaching au château de Javarzay).Bref, un excellent séjour où nous pensons revenir l'année prochaine pour notre weekend en famille !

Grand gîte 6 chambres avec 6 salles de douches, parfait pour un séjour en famille.Freddy est très gentil et très accueillant. Il avait même installé un sapin décoré pour notre réveillon de Noël. C'est une vieille maison pleine de charme, un peu froide en hiver, mais qui doit être parfaite en été avec sa piscine

We hebben een zeer leuk verblijf gehad bij CHEZ FREDDIE. Tony was zeer vriendelijk en steeds ter beschikking indien er problemen waren. Het interieur is wat verouderd en heeft nood aan een opfrissing. Maar Tony had al plannen gemaakt hiervoor. Dat het domein volledig is afgebakend is een enorm plusunt bij honden en kleine kinderen. Een paar speeltuigen voor kleinere kinderen zou nog een extra meerwaarde geven.

We, Ann and Tony, bought the property in February 0f 2017. Previously Tony worked off shore when the oil prices were good and Ann was a practicing midwife. Our 4 sons have remained in the UK and visit often. Chez Freddie had been successfully ran as a gite for many years prior. Since moving over from the UK we have been busy revamping rooms and decor, adding a large family size BBQ and new pool and garden furniture.
We brought our 3 small friendly dogs and 4 cats with us. That was a long journey !
We reside on site but are gated away from the rental property. Always here if you need us. Out of sight if you don't.

Why they chose this property

Chez Freddie has everything you will need for a family holiday plus much more. Our kitchen is fully equipped for 13 adults plus toddlers/babies. All rooms have en suite facilities. We have many garden games, board games, DVDs and books galore. TV is in French and English. WiFi is included in the package.

What makes this property unique

We also have a small rowing boat "Freddie" which you can take out along the Boutonne which runs past the orchard at the far end of the garden. Fishing equipment is available, the Boutonne being a grade A trout fishing river.
Lots of cycle tracks in and around the area and further into the town of Chef Boutonne is a large fishing lake and camp site.
