About Maureen Mele
I am a widow living now in UK, but I lived on and off for over 20 years in Rome and in Tuscany with my Italian husband. We bought this house over 25 years ago and completely renovated it over the years. It has very special memories for family and friends holidaying there every year.
Maureen Mele purchased this Villa in 1985
Why Maureen Mele chose Castagneto Carducci
My husband and his siblings spent every summer there when they were young. So when we decided to buy a property Tuscany was the only choice.
What makes this Villa unique
The location with lots of hilltop villages plus the beaches and the easy access to places of interest is quite different from 'chiantishire' and very Italian. The nearby village of Bolgheri produces the top award-winning wine almost every year.

Einfach nur gut....
super erholsam, würde jeder Zeit wieder hinfahren. Ich habe selten gesehen, dass eine Grünanlage so gut gepflegt ist.
Grazie Maureen !! Great experience! Highly recommended
We arrived to Castagneto Carducci on a hot July day and Maureen had arranged that Mario, the housekeeper, was waiting for us so he could show us the way to the property.. After driving a long path in a wooded area we reached Trogollelo (the cute name of the house). My whole family was stunned at the sheer beauty! It was in a gorgeous place near the mountains, and we immediately fell in love with it. The house, to begin with, is huge (fits eight or more people) so we were eager to explore the inside. The patio right outside the house was were we ate most of our meals, since the weather was so nice in the day time and nighttime, and it had an unbeatable view. Inside, the house is all stone and windows on the first floor, so there is no air conditioning needed. The living room has comfortable couches and a television, and the kitchen was fantastic! A word to the kitchen: it has all the appliances and tools necessary for cooking and serving food. Those who love to cook will find this kitchen a luxury, since it has every possible utensil for cooking nearly everything in regards to Italian cuisine. Moving up to the second floor, there are four bedrooms, two with two single beds, and two with one matrimonial bed. All bedrooms have windows with a lovely view. There is one bathroom on the first floor (which has a washing machine and dryer in it, too), as well as one on the second floor, both equipped with showers. We found on both floors of the house there was ample space to move around, especially since there were 5 of us, and we never felt cramped or crowded. Aside from this, the decor was lovely and had a very warm Tuscan feel to it. It truly feels like you are living the Tuscan dream life in this house! Moving outside, there was quite a flight of stairs to get to the pool. The pool was located up very high, with many steps that were sometimes a bit tiring for the elder guests. On top of this, if you have very little kids the pool is so far away and not within view of the actual house that you will have to be up there as well to keep an eye on them. Once you arrive at the large size pool, however, the view is definitely worth it! It's located right on the mountains, and to the right there is a large forest, and looking straight ahead there is a slight view of the Ligurean sea. There are plenty of lounge chairs here, as well as a table under a small cabana for snacks and drinks.. Maureen and Mario made all possible efforts to guarantee a great stay
Lovely sandy beaches (both free beaches and paying beaches) at Marina di Castagneto - a ten minute drive. In the high season a small (on road) train also runs frequently from the main road in Donoratico to the beach - eliminating parking problems
Pisa Airport is approx. 70 km, which with the good Autostrada, takes about 50 minutes. A car is essential.
The nearest village is Castagneto Carducci, a 20 minute uphill walk or less than 10 min. drive. Donoratico is the village on the main trunk road where the railway station is, and has 3 supermarkets, many other shops, restaurants and bars. An adventure playground half way to the beach is popular with children. A day trip to the Island of Elba from Piombino if well worthwhile.
Tours of local vineyards can be arranged, with advanced notice.
