Lovely peaceful surroundings and the bungalow was the best equipped place ever, which made all the difference. Nice to have a friendly pub on the doorstep too and Sue and Mick, the owners of Little Nod were very welcoming and thoughtful.

Brilliant setting and lovely homely accommodation
We spent a week here and had a lovely time, it was cold outside but inside we were nice and toasty. Set behind a great pub with brilliant food. It was very homely with all the things you would need, TV was brilliant and kitchen equipped with everything you would need. Totally quite a night and on a clear sky there is no light pollution so a great view of the starts. Would totally recommend here, great decor inside, easy access to lots of place, will be visiting again.

Excellent value
The bungalow is very clean and tidy and provides you with everything you could possibly ever need during your stay. Lots of information and maps on places to visit not only limited to the local area but also covering the surrounding countryside, all neatly organised by the owners waiting for you in the property. The Old Smithy Inn is welcoming with lovely food and right on your doorstep. I would definitely recommend staying here.

Our home away from home
This was our 5th stay at Little Nod. It's becoming our regular home away from home, we have already booked our next stay. The owners as ever were very helpful. The bungalow is very homely, located in private grounds behind a lovely pub which does great food and a good selection of ales. There are a number of secluded beaches nearby also Bude and Bideford are a short drive away.
The bungalow itself has a good selection of books, dvd's and games, also extra bedding in case it's needed. The kitchen is well equipped with a cooker and hob, toaster and microwave, also a large fridge freezer. On arrival we found as usual everything we needed for a cup of tea after our drive down and dog biscuits for our little dog. Our stay was as ever quiet and peaceful and we are looking forward to our next visit.

An Abiding Delight
I have had the good fortune to be able to come to Little Nod regularly for 17 years, sometimes more than once a year, and it would always be my absolute first choice for a stay in this area, a place I have known and cherished since childhood.
Lovingly looked after and presented by Sue and Mick Dollimore, and crammed full of wonderful little touches, it really does feel like nothing so much as a delightful home from a home with everything you could possibly want and more besides, as several other reviewers have said. Sue and Mick take care to keep improving and upgrading without changing the feel too much. There is even wi-fi should you need it. It exerts its appeal at any time of the year and, on this occasion, it was a particular joy arriving at dusk on New Year's Eve to the glow from the lights of a seasonal little Christmas tree.
The situation is perfect, with a view out over the valley towards the sea on the one hand, and a walk of less than a minute to the glorious Old Smithy Inn on the other, with its warm and friendly welcome. I know of nowhere else that gives rise to such a feeling of peace and wellbeing from the moment you arrive.
I hope to enjoy many more stays here and have always taken pleasure in handing it back to Sue and Mick in the same state as I find it on arrival. They do not ask for any more, so there is no need for "buyer beware" on that score and I must admit that I therefore struggle to understand the review submitted on 28 December 2016 immediately before we arrived.
Unreservedly recommended.

Thank you Martin and it has been a pleasure to welcome you to Little Nod for all those years. Yes, we aim to make Little Nod a home from home for our many regulars and try to keep all the equipment well maintained and updated as necessary. Last year we replaced the toaster, the kettle, the living room heater, some of the bedding, some pillows, the microwave and the oven (which you christened). It is always a pleasure to do the clean after you as you leave it so clean and tidy. You obviously love Little Nod as much as we do :-)

Second home!
We have stayed at little nod many times and it's our home away from home. We are a family of 4 with a lively dog, the minute we entered the cottage we felt at home. The location is second to none, great walking from the door and next to the best free house I have ever been in. The bungalow is well maintained, clean and well equipped, it is not an "interior designers" project but does not profess to be. It is designed for people to be comfortable, cosy and to provide all the amenities they need to explore the area, enjoy the outdoors and come back to at the end of a productive day. Our children are now teenagers (17 & 13) and we thought this trip would be our last to Little Nod for a while, but the children soon put us straight and we are coming again in April - we can't wait. The owners ask that you leave the property tidy and put the bins out but certainly not like other places where we have stayed where you are required to deep clean.
Lynne M.
Response from VrboOwner on 16 May 2023
Thank you Lynne, you're absolutely right, we ask that people leave Little Nod tidy and sort out the rubbish and any obvious mess. However, we don't require them to do a clean as we both usually spend at least 3 hours there doing that. I'm glad you appreciate the comfort and cosyness, as that is what we aim for. We like to replace equipment as necessary and keep up with the maintenance. In the past year we have replaced the toaster, the kettle, the oven, the main heater, the microwave and some of the bedding and pillows. In the past 2 - 3 years we have installed a phone/wifi and replaced the bed, the washing machine and curtains. I'm so glad your children want to come back, we do find that with families, we have one family whose children are now 18 and 21 and they still return every year :-)

Wonderful little retreat
Set in a quiet field behind the village pub Little Nod was the perfect winter retreat. Located close to the coast and within easy reach of many walking opportunities its setting was ideal but what I was particularly taken by was how well appointed it was considering the price. I have stayed in places far more expensive which did not have the amount of amenities Sue has provided to make your stay all the more enjoyable. Especially liked the little touches like hand made soap and a bonio for the dog. We had a wonderful short break and have booked again for this february

Response from VrboOwner on 16 May 2023
We are so glad you enjoyed your winter break David and are coming back again in February. This area is a good one for walking and enjoying all year round and there is something special about the winter here. Especially taking a long walk and then popping into the Old Smithy with it's roaring log fire, good food and local ales.

Very well equipped clean bungalow
We have stayed on this small complex of bungalows many times over the last 40 years but I can truly say that Little Nod is the best of them all, perfectly clean and well equipped and has bee brought up to date beautifully, Sue left us a welcome pack which was much appreciated also by our dog as she left biscuits for her. Lots of information about the area and we found things which we hadn't found before. We would recommend Little Nod to anyone who wanted a peaceful area with so many beautiful places to go. An added bonus is the food in the adjacent pub and various others around the area. We will return in May and enjoy this lovely place.Angie Jack and Catherine

Fantastic property & owners
We can only further validate the excellent reviews. From the moment we arrived it was perfect. Everything was spotlessly clean.
A welcome note from the owners and some lovely fresh flowers, and milk in the fridge - which was brilliant as we had forgotten to get some on the way down. The hospitality tray was one of the best i have ever seen, a choice of everything! There was biscuits for us and more importantly, a couple of bonio's for our four legged friend :)
A lovely touch was the handmade soap which is a gift to take home.
There was a plentiful supply of cleaning products (all eco friendly which is a delight to see!!).
The kitchen had equipment in abundance, absolutely everything you could need.
A brilliant selection of books and dvds.
Comfy bed and spare quilts, hot water bottles, everything labelled and in a logical order.
The birds feeding at the rear were a joy to watch. Amazing pub on the doorstep, i could go on and on.........
Highly recommended, we will go back for sure. Great value and a credit to the owners. Thank you xx

Lovely friendly little getaway
Little Nod is a clean, comfortable, beautifully maintained little getaway surrounded by stunning scenery. It is very well equipped with anything we might need during your stay and the owners Sue & Mick provide excellent customer care. There is always a welcome tray set out & milk in the fridge for a cuppa when we arrive. Within the holiday home the owners have provided extensive information on the local area; including places to visit, recommended eateries, local walks and the surrounding beaches. We have been regularly staying in Little Nod for our annual holiday for over 10 years and have recommended it to friends & family. It is conveniently located next to the friendly village pub which provides great food, folk and quiz nights. It is a beautiful walk down to Welcombemouth beach with its rock pools, caves and stunning waterfall. I highly recommend this friendly little place to anybody for a very relaxing opportunity to recharge your batteries and enjoy the view.

An idyllic getaway.
An absolutely wonderful peaceful, friendly place to stay. Little nod is clean, cosy and well equipped with all the comforts of home, and dog friendly! The location is truly brilliant to access the amazing beaches and woodland valley walks, all right on your doorstep. It's the ideal location to explore north Devon and Cornwall too. The old smithy inn that's close by is a little gem of a pub, the owners make everyone so welcome and has a great trip advisor rating.
What makes this such a wonderful place to stay and draws me back several times a year are the hosts. Sue and Mick go the extra mile to ensure your stay at Little Nod exceeds your expectations. You only have to read the comments in the visitors book to see how many guests have enjoyed their stay and plan to return.
So thank you for another wonderful break.

A delightful home from home - a dream holiday !
The little bungalow was situated on the end of a little lane, so it was quiet and peaceful. We found that it was part of a long row of similar holiday homes, each set in it's own space, right behind the local pub - definitely one of the best pubs I've been to - they had a beer garden, loads of room inside, and served really good local food. The setting was good for country walks and rambles, with the coast and picturesque villages within walking and driving distance- we went to Westward Ho and Clovelly by car - being right on the border of Devon and Cornwall, it really was a superb setting.
The place itself was amazing - our hosts really put a lot of thought into making the holiday enjoyable- yes, we did eat out a couple of times, but the kitchen was filled with every convenience - we've taken a few things with us before because we found from experience that the knives in some places are not that sharp and they don't have beer glasses - but here , we never unpacked the ' Survival Kit', as I call it.
The place itsef had comfortable beds, and was well kept, clean and tidy. in the cupboards, we found not only essentials but even boards games, cards and other amusements in case we were not interested in watching TV or one of the whole shelf of DVDs on offer .
It was lovely to be welcomes with home baked biscuits and a range of teas as well as coffee.
Often, we have had to put our dog in kennels, but here, Lily, our little collie, was welcome- with a biscuit for her as well on arrival! Dogs are welcome but we were asked to make sure that did not sit on the furniture unless we put a rug out for them first. this was quite reasonable and we have managed to find quite a few dog friendly places in the UK where this is a standard arrangement. We had brought our own rugs, but Little Nod again had provided some for us.
There was a lovely patio outside , and as I'm keen on Astronomy , I took my four inch telescope - that's 104mm in metric , and we got lovely views of the moon, but it was the wrong time of year for Orion and the Pleiades - I do hope to go back in the wintertime.
Overall, the setting was good, the accomadation was amazing and the bookshelf was packed with local guidebooks and a brocure full of local info written by our hosts, including the best places to shop and reviews of various local attractions and facilites. Sue, our hostess , also provided her number, just in case...
The only thing we did not like about Little Nod was having to leave !

"Warm Comfortable and Cosy"
Have recently returned from a week in the delightful "little Nod", everything was spotlessly clean, comfortable, with lots of extra's that made for a relaxing holiday. The weather became extremely cold during our stay but the heating was so efficient that we had warm, relaxing, cosy evenings after our busy day's walking. Thank you Sue and Mick for a lovely week. We hope to return again perhaps when the weather is warmer for our walking

Alles was man braucht

About the host
Hosted by Chrissy Robertson
Little Nod has been owned by Mick and Sue Dollimore since December '99.
Sue sadly died in December 2020 from Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma and is very sadly missed. Having helped with Little Nod whilst Sue was ill, daughter Chrissy is now taking bookings and managing the property along with Mick.
Mick lives in Welcombe, just across the valley and usually does all the maintenance of Little Nod. Mick and Sue have always put so much love and care into looking after Little Nod and now Chrissy hopes to do so in the same vein. She grew up in the village and then owned and ran the village pub with husband Lee for 6 years until 2010. She lives nearby with Lee and their two boys. We all love this area and look forward to sharing it with you.
Why they chose this property
We love this unspoilt area of Devon and moved here in 1985. We have lived in Welcombe since 1994.
What makes this property unique
Welcombe is one of North Devon's best kept secrets. A remote but welcoming area, as the name suggests. The beach is beautiful with a small waterfall, rock pools and a stretch of sand at low tide. There is a small car park, or you can walk down the wooded valley which is crowded with wild flowers, especially in Springtime. The Old Smithy Inn is a minute walk away from Little Nod and great. There is a village shop which offers an ordering service and a lovely working pottery. There are lots of other walks in the village, as well as the one to the beach and the South West Coast Path is easily accessed. We have lots of information about walks and other local attractions, as well as maps and a tide table for your use.
We like to keep Little Nod to a high standard and love to make it welcoming and comfortable for all our guests. We had new carpets fitted throughout in April 2022. Our regulars often describe it as their "home from home".
