Wonderful stay
We spent 1 week in October with all our family (6 adults, 2 kids and 1 baby) on this beautiful house, very clean and with all amenities ! We really enjoyed the time around the Molise area with historic cities like Vasto and Termoli, enjoy the walks on Abruze Mountains and Tremiti islands. Thank you again to the owners of the house for the special attention to prepare everything for our stay.

Wow, What a Great Country House
We booked this house to be our base while we explored the region by car. It was perfect. Convenient to roads heading in all directions, and to local shops. This house itself is huge and very well appointed. We cooked a few meals at home in the evening and lacked for nothing. The view around the property is a farmland paradise 360 degrees. There was patio furniture to enjoy the amazing sunsets! Thank you!

Ultra peaceful setting
We were very impressed with this beautiful brand new high-tech house resurrected from the ruins of an old structure. The location among farmed fields made for a quiet etremely relaxing experience. The house was spotless and the owners attentive. The kitchen was well appointed with every convenience except a microwave. Welcoming coffee, wine and cookies awaited our arrival. We highly recommend the property and if ever return to this part of Italy we would definitely come here.

Impeccably restored historic masseria (farmhouse) in the beautiful rolling hills of Molise
We have been renting houses in Europe for more than twenty years. We use VRBO because of the wide choices , excellent support and the ability to communicate with owners. Seeking a longer stay, we had most pleasant exchanges with Helene and Carlo, who graciously agreed to rent their beautiful home for three months this past winter. We have stayed in fine villas in France, Spain and Italy, but this is our favorite. Surrounded by lush fields (even in winter), the house offers incredible views. Daily we enjoyed the sight of snow covered mountains just over the line in Abruzzo (amazing sunsets), while the Adriatic glimmered to the north. The house is very attractive, comfortable and welcoming with three modern baths, an excellent functional kitchen (we are serious cooks) and plenty of sleeping space. The upstairs bedrooms are at either end of the house, offering privacy when we had guests. With an open concept, this is a brilliant and practical renovation. Photos do not capture the charm. Location is ideal for exploring Molise, Abruzzo and Puglia, with a high speed Autostrada a few kilometers from the house. We especially enjoyed the historic walled town and fishing port, Termoli, which is on some short lists of the best food towns in Italy. Our favorite restaurant there, Trattoria Tipica L'Opera, via Addriatica, run by a friendly family. Nearby Vasto has many fine restaurants, a pretty historic center and panoramic views of the Abruzzi and Molise coast.Other towns not to be missed: Agnone (famous bell foundry and perched on a picturesque ridge), Campobasso and historic Lanciano. Do eat at Locanda Mami just outside Agnone, with a brilliant young chef, Stefania, who blends traditional recipes with modern techniques. Great food at very fair prices. This area is unspoiled rural farm country, but the food culture is sophisticated and varied. Along the coast the most fresh and perfect seafood is served, while elsewhere grass fed lamb, beef and poultry are prepared traditionally. The area proudly produces great wine, cheese and sausage, as well as truffles. We found the food in Molise to be as good as in France, with much lower prices. Wine from San Zenone Coop in town is exceptional! This is a superlative house and area. Carlo and Helene and their extended family welcomed us and are now friends. Locals are welcoming and friendly. This was the vacation of a lifetime - we plan to return. Recommended without reservation!

Siamo stati molto soddisfatti dell'esperienza!

About the host

Host profile image
I’m Helene and I moved to Italy from the UK in my early 20's just over 20 years ago. I met Carlo, my Italian husband in Milan where we still live with our young and growing family and both work in the IT industry. Milan is your typical large and boisterous European city, such a contrast to the peace and simplicity of life in Molise. I fell in love with Carlo’s native Molise on my very first visit - the gentle hills, the sea with the Maella mountain behind, it’s friendly inhabitants, old and still flourishing traditions, not to mention authentic and delicious local cuisine!

Why they chose this property

I loved our holidays with Carlo’s family in Montenero di Bisaccia and was thrilled to find that an old masseria as they are known locally, one we’d always admired with fantastic views, was on the market. The Masseria had originally housed a couple of livestock workers and their families with a large cowshed downstairs and an annex next door housing a herd of sheep and a large wood fired oven. My father in law, retired local butcher, had bought the last of the cows 30 years earlier, after which the farmers moved out and the masseria fell into disuse. Externally, we faithfully rebuilt most of the Masseria but we opted for a brighter and more spacious interior. Thanks to the usually good Molise weather, we spend as much time there as we can....all year round!

What makes this property unique

Less than an hour’s drive from Pescara airport and only 10 minutes to the nearest beach, Villa Masseria commands fabulous views all-round. On the Abruzzo/Molise border, it allows for easy access to both regions. Recently renovated, the villa has all modern comforts and is cool in the summer and warm in the winter. A five minute drive from the nearest supermarkets, bars and restaurants, it offers a quiet and relaxing location without been too isolated or far from amenities.
