Secluded, Private, Cornish Retreat. Glorious Lakeside Gardens
Pet friendly.
Polgwedhen Lodge is a stylish holiday property in complete seclusion, peace and tranquillity, enjoying a private lakeside position, amidst extensive lightly wooded gardens, home to an abundance of wildlife.
The only lodge on the farm, there are no close neighbours and no passing traffic or people. You will have it all to yourself, but we are on hand if you need us.
On the veranda there are outdoor table and chairs for al fresco dining, directly overlooking the lake, and there is a terrace with sun loungers and barbecue for lazy summer days. Our guests love strolling around the gardens and taking the boat for a leisurely little rowing trip on the lake.
The views across the lake are to die for, and this really is an oasis of peace, beauty and tranquillity. A glass of wine on the veranda, a private summer barbecue or a cosy winter fireside cream tea, in these beautiful surroundings- what else is there to wish for?
Inside there is an open plan living area with fully equipped kitchen, living and dining area. The bedroom features a double mahogany 4 Poster bed, and plenty of storage space. The newly refurbished shower room with shower, hand basin and WC is en-suite to the bedroom. A pebble effect electric fire in the living area, radiator in the bedroom and heated towel rail in the shower room makes the Lodge comfortable, cosy and welcoming all the year round. Co-ordinating fabrics in soft pastels compliment the natural wood floors, walls and ceilings and vaulted ceilings give a light airy feel.
Your dog will be a welcome guest. The large gardens are ideal for dog sniffaris - and there is a secure, fenced area to the side of the lodge. You can while away the hours, listening to the birds and other wildlife. There are super walks from the Lodge itself or you can venture out to the stunning beaches, clifftop walks, pubs and cafes. All the major attractions of Cornwall, a host of towns and pretty villages and both North and South coasts are easily reached.
A perfect rural retreat, just for two.

Thank you for your 5 star review; we are so pleased that you enjoyed your stay at the Lodge. In August 2020, almost a year before your stay, we replied to your query regarding fishing to the effect that we do not stock the lake with fish, but that you were welcome to try, so indeed, you were able to try your hand at fishing. However, the lake is ornamental, featuring plants, wildlife and mature trees. To be clear, the Lodge is in a very secluded situation, not overlooked, hidden amongst trees and surrounded by our own private grounds at the end of a long private lane. The only other property on the 10 acres is our house and we like to think that we are on hand if needed, but that we do not intrude. We were delighted to welcome you and your husband, and hope that we shall see you again in the future.
We booked a week at the lodge for our honeymoon.
On our arrival we thought the location was amazing, so picturesque, sat in front of a lake. As we entered the lodge another surprise awaited us.. a Cornish cream tea, lovely, and was really appreciated.
Everything about the lodge was perfect, spotlessly clean, very, very comfortable, couldn't fault it.
The owners were extremely friendly and so obliging.
We would highly recommend it.
Excellent location, place and owners, coming back next year
Nothing was too much trouble for the owners and they deserve the very high ratings they have received. Ideal place for a couple

Thank you for your review, David. It was a pleasure to host you, and we are so pleased that your plans worked out and that you enjoyed your stay. Looking forward to welcoming you again.
We had a wonderful time staying at the lodge. The location is great - we enjoyed the peace and quiet but were still close to town. A delicious cream tea was waiting when we arrived and the lodge had everything we needed for our stay. Loved it!!!
An amazing, relaxing and peaceful experience in this property. The cabin was spotless, very charming and homely. You couldn't beat the surroundings; lush foliage surrounding a beautiful lake with ducks. We were close enough to local farm shops and Truro town centre, but far away enough from main roads and traffic. Very quiet and tranquil. Beaches are 20-25 mins away and you can reach various towns and attractions within 45 mins (e.g. St. Ives, Falmouth, Eden Project). Vanda was the most welcoming host; friendly, approachable and helpful. She popped by to see if we were settling in OK and then left us to ourselves for our 6 nights there. The cream tea upon arrival was a lovely touch. 100% recommended!
You must stay here, a perfect place to break away from all stresses, anxiety’s and to improve your mental wellbeing and body, the sheer calmness we got from here is unbelievable, staying here made me feel at peace with myself completely, My stay thier was a truly beautiful experience and it was all so simple. I will definitely be going back, the owners are lovely and attentive and understanding, I think that’s why they built this lovely little peaceful getaway.
Setting as beautiful as pictures suggest. Lodge equipped with everything you could wish for. Excellent location as a base from which to explore far reaches of Cornwall
Stunning! The cosiest lodge with the most beautiful view. A perfect, romantic location, close enough to enjoy a mixture of bars, restaurants and shopping as well as being just a few miles from the beach. Vanda was lovely, she popped very briefly to check that we were ok and then left us to it to forget the world. The complimentary cream tea awaiting our arrival was very welcoming. This lodge was so lovely that we chose to stay in and order a takeaway on a night that we had originally planned to go out. We did not want to leave and will definitely be returning. We highly recommend staying here. It really was just perfect!

Cosy and comfortable
We found the place easily with the clear directions. The cosy, delightful lodge placed in an idyllic setting was quiet and set back from any traffic noise and yet close enough to Truro to be convenient. Vanda was very welcoming and we enjoyed the welcome scones. Ideal location for us to explore the north coast - St Ives, Godrevy and Perranporth during our long weekend break. Plenty of places to eat out but would advise to book ahead.

Amazing, so peaceful and relaxing
The lodge is perfectly situated near a private lake and wooded area. If you want to get away from it all but be close enough to drive to places such as Truro, Falmouth, St Ives, the Eden Project etc then this is it. The lodge has everything you could possibly need. We met the owners who were lovely, they were on hand if you needed anything but otherwise they leave you alone. The lodge is one of a kind, very clean and comfortable, on its own and not overlooked.
We will definitely be returning.

Wow, what a find!
If you want a cosy place that's tucked away, peaceful, restful and surrounded by its own grounds, this is just the place! You feel you're remote but are close to Truro and all the right roads to the coast within about 20 mins. The owners are lovely and the accommodation great. It's got everything you need for a relaxing holiday in Cornwall. We were able to take our dog and she loved it too (keep them on a lead 'cos of the geese, ducks and the owners' animals). Highly recommended.

About the host
Hosted by Vanda Arthur
We are former hoteliers and after 20 years of running our own country house hotel, just 5 miles away, and wanted to continue with the enjoyment of welcoming guests, helping them make the most of their stay and providing them with great accommodation as a backdrop to a wonderful holiday in our wonderful county. So we decided to welcome guests into our Lodge by the lake in our grounds. We know from experience that a friendly approach, a personal service with attention to detail and a great location are important to our guests. We live in the farmhouse at Polgwedhen, but the house does not overlook the Lodge and the Lodge does not overlook the house. We like to be unobtrusive, but on hand if you need anything, even if it's just a chat! We hope to welcome you to Polgwedhen for a well deserved break, and we hope that you will love Polgwedhen as much as we do.
Why they chose this property
Polgwedhen Lodge is ideally located for exploring all of the best that Cornwall has to offer. The North Coast at St Agnes is only 5 miles away, Falmouth on the South Coast is a 10 mile drive and the main A30, which will lead you to anywhere in Cornwall is a mere 5 minute drive. However, once at Polgwedhen, accessed via a 1/2 mile private road and surrounded by 10 acres of gardens, lakeside and pasture, you are truly away from it all and in a private world of your own. where you can kick back and relax in peace.
What makes this property unique
Polgwedhen Lodge sits within the grounds of Polgwedhen Farm, utterly secluded in lightly wooded lakeside gardens, with views overlooking the ornamental lake, indeed its feet almost dip into the water! We are dog friendly - contact us for information. Stylish, comfortable, private and tranquil - a veritable Cornish Hideaway.
