Driftwood - a holiday home that sleeps 4 guests in 2 bedrooms

Driftwood is magically situated a stone's throw from one of the best beaches in Cornwall, Driftwood is dog friendly (there are summertime dog restrictions on the beach, see below) The accommodation comprises a fully fitted kitchen diner, and living room on the ground floor with two bedrooms and a bathroom on the first floor. As a bonus, Driftwood now has an EV charge point installed. There is a small garden to the rear with a decked area and a table with benches.

Porthtowan is one of the finest beaches on the North Coast, there is a vast expanse of golden sand at low tide which is ideal for a family game of rounders or cricket. Flanking the beach are impressive cliffs, rock pools, caves, and a tidal pool, but Porthtowan is renowned for its fantastic curling break, there is lifeguard cover during the Easter holidays and from May through to September, and there is a surf school that can teach anyone from 8 years upwards, at the top of the beach is a playground. There are a plethora of dog walks nearby from cliff walks on the coast path, please keep your family friend on a lead, on the beach (however dogs are banned between 10am and 6pm between May 15 and September 30), to exploring the rich mining heritage including Wheal Coates, the archetypal Cornish engine house, dramatically perched on the cliffs at Towanroath approximately 1km north of the beach.

Accommodation
Ground Floor: Enter into living room with comfortable seating, flat screen TV, stairs to first floor. Kitchen / dining room with fitted units and appliances, combined fridge / freezer, dishwasher, washing machine, dining table and chairs.
First floor: Landing with doors to: Master bedroom with 4'6" double bed and storage, double aspect with low velux windows that have views over the beach. Bunk bedroom with storage. Family bathroom with shower over the bath, WC and hand basin.
External: Parking space with TAP EV charging point. Rear garden with decked area, picnic table with benches, Charcoal BBQ. There is another parking space, if required.

Close to the beach

This is our second visit to a lovely clean and well equipped house in an excellent location, very close to the beach and local amenities.

Fab cottage in excellent location

We loved our stay at Driftwood! A stones throw from the beautiful beach, and everything we needed right on our doorstep and to explore more of Cornwall. We hadn't stayed at Porthtowan before but have fallen in love with the place! The cottage was super clean and comfortable, and well equipped for everything we needed. Highly recommend. (The addition of a floor brush would be handy, obviously bringing sand in from outside, you don't always want to have to use the hoover! And a washing line would be helpful too.)

The accomodation was adequate. A little basic, but I understand that its a place where surfers stay and they come with sand and sea and so forth. But I found hair in the top draw from previous guests and a ridiculous amount of mugs and glasses in the kitchen cupboard with littke room for guest's food. There was no washing detegent and no teabags or coffee just a sad tea dirty caddy. It looks like the house keeper needs to be supervised better or maybe the owners need to attend to their accomodation. It was generally fine but could have been better. Also I went there thinking that no dogs were allowed on the beach between 10am and 6pm before 30th Sept but there were dogs all over the beach which spoilt my holiday a little. Thank you

A really good location

Good location parking outside door all equipment their that's required. Pub over road quite good , cafe good . Enjoyed my holiday their , especially good for dogs .

Ideal location

We stayed here for a week and we couldn't be happier. The cottage does show some minimal wear and tear but nothing that presents as a problem. The property was completely functional for our needs - well equipped for cooking and a short walk to the sea (literally a minute away!!). We will definitely be coming back to stay!

Great cottage for the beach at Porthtowan

This is the 2nd time we have have stayed at Driftwood albeit it several years apart. The location is great - just a minutes walk to the beach but it is beginning to feel a bit tired. The flooring could do with updating - carpets maybe need new underlay and the lounge flooring is showing a fair bit of wear. One thing that was a real pain was the bathroom Velux window has no privacy glass - it wouldn't take much effort to add some privacy film - I ended up taping together some news paper to put on it. Also there were no keys for the downstairs windows so we couldn't lock them for security. Another bug bear was that there was no key for the front door - just the back door. The cleaner had a key for the front door but it was not available for the tenants. There were cobwebs in the corners of the Velux windows which was a bit of putting but on the whole a nice place to stay. A washing/drying line in the garden would be very handy too as the clothes horse inside is too small for much to be hung on it and the rails on the radiators are just too low - had to hang towels over the doors. As they say on the TV - location location location!
