Pretty Period Cottage in small Market town of Bingham, Nottingham area
My little cottage is 200 years old and would have once been the gardeners cottage, although sadly no garden but there is a south facing sunny terrace in the front to sit out. It is therefore full of character but quite SMALL with low doors and oak beamed ceilings. It is one of the original '2 up, 2 downs' from around 1800 and in recent years was modernised and a small toilet/shower room added. It has been decorated and furnished in keeping with the period complete with some antique furniture so not really suitable for small children. You do actually sense the history in the ambiance. The kitchen is just big enough for 4 to eat round the table and the living room cosy,. but please note, we do not have big loungy sofas - we have period seating that may not be compliant with 21st century expectations. Please be aware of this if you are thinking of booking. Situated in a no-thru road, literally just off the main centre and market square of Bingham, it is quiet but with easy access to Nottingham. Fine for 4 people (max )if not to tall!
YOUNG CHILDREN: Children of a responsible age (over around 5 years) are welcome . The antique style of furnishing means low items like fire tongues, small pictures, decorative lights etc. could easily be damaged and at the same time be dangerous to a small child. We do not have room for cot facilities, high chairs or any other baby bits and pieces.
MEDIUM TERM LETS: We take bookings of no more than 28 days..
FIBRE WIFI Super Fast : Available in the cottage!! , however Computers with internet/printers can also be found free of charge just 5 minutes away in the local library on an hourly basis.

Thanks Elaine and hats off to you surviving the extreme heat period. Thank you also for leaving everything in tip top condition. We hope to see you again.
Amazing little cottage conveniently located. The cottage is well equipped with everything you will need for a great stay. From Bingham we were able to see many of the local sites plus easy access to trains for a day trip into York. I would highly recommend!

Thanks for reviewing us Kelly and such a lovely review is very much appreciated. Also a Big Thank you for looking after the cottage so nicely. I did not know that you could get a train all the way to York from there - fantastic!
The house is very comfortable. The kitchen is especially well equipped. The house is also a short walk from Bingham centre where there are restaurants and takeaways sufficient for most people's needs. All in all a very pleasant stay.

Thank you very much for your kind review, it is much appreciated. So pleased that the cottage suited your needs so well.
The property was very clean and a lot of thought had gone into the layout of the property to maximise the space. It is in a quiet area but very close to the town centre for shops, buses and trains into Nottingham. Close to Bevoir Castle and National Water Sports Centre

Aaah, that will be Michael across the road. He is such a wonderful neighbour and helps out a lot as we are normally in France. Yes, always cosy in the winter especially if you have the time to light the fire. Very happy to hear you had a good stay, do come again!
We needed a place in Bingham to stay whilst visiting friends nearby. This town centre cottage was ideal, just a short walk into the centre of town with a number of shops and restaurants (Just starting to reopen from COVID). The cottage was as described, cosy and comfortable for a short stay. Ideal! The owner was very helpful and the instructions were very comprehensive.

So pleased the cottage served your purpose so well. Thank you for all your kind attention to everything during your stay - much appreciated. And yes, you timed it very well for the opening of local pub terraces and outdoor eating spaces. Bingham has a surprisingly good choice of eateries for a relatively small market town. Would be most pleased to see you again on another visit.
Our only regret was not being able to stay longer - the circumstance of our stay being a brief family get together over Christmas. The cottage is cosy. The kitchen is beautifully equipped and (thankfully) has a brilliant gas hob and cooker. Located just a stone's throw from the town centre, yet with on street parking just outside, it is an ideal place to stay. There are plenty of cosy pubs and several really good restaurants/take-aways. Our host was really welcoming and the details of access very clear. We look forward to coming again.

Lovely and comfortable cottage
We have spent a very enjoyable week in Rosehip cottage: it is located in a very quiet street (not a single noise at night!) , the neighbours are friendly and helpful.
The cottage is small but has everything you need; the brand new kitchen is perfect!!! (I specially appreciated to have a gas cooker and oven!) And we found all the basic items - and more - in the cupboards (no need to rush shopping!).
The bedrooms are very clean and comfortable.
We will definitely come back!
(We would also like to add a special thank you to Traci who made us most welcome!)

So Happy you liked the new kitchen. We put a lot of thought into trying to re-create a Victorian feel in keeping with the period cottage. Yes indeed very quiet , amazingly so when its just off the main centre. Thanks for your kind words and of course we would love to see you back again.

Rosehip Cottage
We stayed at Rosehip Cottage in deepest winter so our memories are of a snowy landscape. Even so we were able to walk across local fields, explore ancient pathways, admire beautiful country villages and traverse the old railway corridor now a walkway, all on foot from the doorstep of Rosehip Cottage.
We could walk to shop at two small supermarkets, and to eat and drink at a really pleasant village pub. And Nottingham was just a short drive away.
Rosehip Cottage is clean, carefully looked after and full of interesting objects.
The arrangements for hiring the cottage were all very easy and friendly. It is ideal for two, a bit of a squeeze for more!
Response from VrboOwner on 22 Mar, 2020
You did indeed have a snowy landscape by all accounts. Lucky you as it does not snow every winter in that part of the world and you had the log fire to make you cosy. I agree its a bit of a squeeze for 4 people. Its hard to imagine that a family of maybe 8 people lived there in even smaller surroundings 200 years ago. But you can't beat the ambiance.
Jane and Siamak were possibly the best hosts we've ever had, and we've stayed in more than 40 different vacation homes. They were responsive, welcoming, accommodating and friendly.
The place is cozy, perfectly decorated for the period, and well equipped for everyday living.
The location is absolutely perfect, and I know we'll stay again.
We were guests for 5 months. During our stay a couple of things happened that required assistance ... but they were never really issues. For example, when the internet box stopped working, Siamak came over that day and replaced it.
I can't recommend Jane and Siamak highly enough.

Praise Indeed! Thank you for your very kind and comprehensive review. We of course would be delighted to see you return another time.
Property whilst very quaint is in need of updating, no hand rail on the stairs, quite dangerous.Windows need repainting. Dust hanging from radiator in bathroom and cobwebs about. generally a very disappointing stay and expensive. Armchairs far too big and uncomfortable, bed was hard..

What a shame to receive a bad review amongst so many good ones.!! Well they say you cannot please everybody all of the time.
This guest complained from time of booking and actually received a rare discount (before the energy prices went up) so not expensive. I did actually ask this guest to cancel straight after booking because of their unpleasant attitude. Communication was very sketchy. They always say trouble to start, trouble thereafter.
Just to address certain issues. There is most certainly a stair hand rail as can be clearly viewed in the photos. The big chairs are beautiful 1920 club chairs put in to compensate for our not being able to fit a huge loungy sofa. Bed has a topper and has been proclaimed comfortable by all our guests. My housekeeper informs me that the heat this summer affected the paintwork on the window frames and will be dealt with in Autumn. Its a 200 year old cottage and cobwebs appear by the hour!! Just as well for us that spiders are lucky. Cannot recommend this guest to other hosts.
Firstly, Jane was incredibly helpful around arranging the check in and information. I loved that and it set me up for the stay. She was able to get me some essentials for my stay - bread, milk, butter, tea etc.
When I arrived - the house was so lovely, just as described. Beautiful and comfortable. I had a wonderful nights sleep in the comfy bed - the heating works really well and is easy to adjust so that added to the lovely nights sleep.
The house is on a very quiet road with ample parking outside the house. I had no trouble at all.
Within 5 mins walk you are in the center of Bingham that offers many different dinning options as well as a number of supermarkets etc. You will find most everything you need within 5/10 mins walk.
I loved the fact there was both a washing machine and a dish washer and there were washing tablets provided as well. Super helpful.
I honestly could not have been more happy with my stay. Thank you Jane for hosting me - If I have the chance will definitely stay again.
If you are looking at this listing wondering if this is as good as it is described - think no longer it is!!!!

Oh My, I can't tell you how rewarding it is to receive a glowing review such as this. There is an old English saying.."it warms the cockles of your heart". We also received yourself as a lovely guest. Everything so clean and tidy despite your early hour departure. , it was if you had never been there. Naturally we would love to host you again - anybody who loves our little cottage as we do, is always welcome.
Prima verblijf, goed contact met de eigenaresse. De trapjes waren voor mijn gehandicapte zoon wat lastiger, maar gaven gelukkig geen grote problemen.

Thank you for your 10/10 review. We were not aware that you had your disabled son with you. I am glad he managed ok as we do say in our listing that the cottage would not be suitable for the physically challenged. Too many steps!
Peaceful market town cottage with all amenities nearby.

We were pleased you enjoyed your break and that Daisy could do the linear walk. It's the perfect place for dogs and owners alike now that it's a heritage trail.
Irene and her husband went over and beyond to sort out the leaves on my terrace and into my drain. I am out of the country and would like to give them 5* for helping out in my absence.
Bravo! We need more guests like this.

Warm and comfortable is our main aim! And we would indeed love a bigger sofa in the front room but its not possible in the limited space of an olde cottage, which we hope comes thru in our property description. We decided its better for our backs :)- Lovely to receive a great review, thank you very much!

Cosy, Clean, near all amenities, full of history
We had a lovely stay in Rosehip cottage. The antique furniture and bits and bobs gave it a sense of olde worlde living and are great fun. Wonderful ambiance. The central heating kept us warm and cosy but there is also the added benefit of a beautiful log fire if you dont mind cleaning it out afterwards. You can park right outside for free and its a short walk to the shops or leisure centre so very easy to find food after a long day out somewhere. Neighbours are very friendly and helpful. We will certainly be coming back.

Cosy retreat
We stayed in Rosehip Cottage for 10 days this summer because our daughters attended a course in Nottingham. The owner's description of the cottage was perfectly accurate - it is small, but perfectly functional and with plenty of character. It is very well equipped and everything was in working order.
The location was perfect for us - Bingham is a lovely little town just 25 minutes drive from Nottingham. Shops, restaurants, bus services are all within a couple of minutes walk. The street itself is very quiet and there is always parking space outside the house. There are several beautiful parks (Wollaton, Kelham, Sherwood Forest...) within short driving distance.
The owner herself is extremely efficient and helpful and there are friendly neighbours around ready to help out if needed.
Response from VrboOwner on 22 Mar, 2020
Thank you for a lovely review!! I am so pleased the neighbours were around to help, they are truly wonderful, as is the parking space outside! Interesting to hear about the parks alongside Sherwood Forest . If I have more time on my next visit, I shall search one out. We are pleased you enjoyed our cottage and look forward to hearing from you again in the future.

"A Little Home from Home2
This is a quintessentially English cottage situated on a quiet cul de sac only 2 minutes walk from the very pretty market square of this small town. There’s a cosy kitchen diner, a wealth of beams and a real log fire which can be lit on chilly evenings. On warmer days, you can sit and relax or eat al fresco on the small terrace at the front of the house. The cottage is furnished in olde worlde style (great for anyone interested in antiques & collectables) and has comfortable beds with lovely crisp linen. It has always been spotlessly clean.
There are a good selection of pubs, eating places, take-aways and supermarkets as well as a weekly market in the town square.
Bingham is conveniently situated for the historic town of Nottingham with it’s Robin Hood connections, Lincoln with it’s cobbled streets & famous cathedral, Newark with it’s riverside walks and the splendid Beauvoir Castle. For antique hunters like us, the huge showground antique fairs of Newark, Swinderby & Lincoln are a short drive away. We’ve stayed here in both the summer and winter whilst antique hunting and have enjoyed our stay every time. A little home from home ?

Perfect
Great little place as a base for my parents & sister visiting from Australia. They needed some where to stop as my place here in England wasn't big enough for 5 adults. This was perfect as was only down the road from my own place.
Everything went smoothly with transfering payment and getting the keys. Both the owner of the property and the lady who looks after it were lovely.
Perfect location for walking into Bingham to get little bits & pieces and my parents really liked the chinese restaurant.
Parking was good, we were always able to park on the street, which really helped.
I even stayed here myself with my parents & sister the night before my wedding and got ready here, the photographer got some lovely shots in the kitchen and lounge room.
My parents would love to stay here again when they next visit, they really liked it.

Cottage in Nottinghamshire
We had a great time using the cottage as a base for visiting. The bijou nature of the cottage meant that it was very warm in the depths of a cold English winter. The cottage was clean and well-maintained. The weather caused a couple of problems but these were dealt with swiftly.
The description of "village" could probably be upgraded to "small market town" which gave us access to more facilities than would be expected. However, it can definitely be referred to as "rural" with plenty of country walks available. It was also very easy to get into Nottingham by bus or train.
I would definitely recommend it to others. It is ideal for a couple who may want overnight guests.
Response from VrboOwner on 22 Mar, 2020
So pleased you enjoyed your stay and were warm and cosy despite frozen outdoor pipes. The weather was really dire and temperatures lower than seen for many a year so I think we fared luckier than most. I was there 3 weeks before you and we were nearly snowed in!

A wonderfully typical English village experience
We did all our booking online and it was smooth and time efficient. Nothing was too much trouble. On arrival we were greeted by Angie who gave us a great orientation not only to the mechanics in the cottage but some local information. It was very clean and every home comfort was accessible.
The cottage is in the centre of the village and within walking distance of the shops and market which has great local characters. The kids went and got their own fish and chips and we visited the sports centre. As we we were centrally placed we went off to Nottingham ( great shopping) and into the countryside.
This really is a typical English village with great character and the accommodation was quaint with great attention to detail to keep the rural feel. We would definitely recommend this for families with teenage kids,or couples who want to have a cozy space which is quiet, but close to all the amenities. Thank you Jane and Angie!
Response from VrboOwner on 22 Mar, 2020
Angie and I are delighted that the visit went so well and that you loved my little cottage as I do. The village and indeed my neighbours are a little 'blast from the past' in terms of gentility and charm. We love our time spent there, especially in the winter when we can light the log fire and toast crumpets!
