About this property
Housekeepers, sleeps 4/5, characterful, beamed property near the Quantock Hills.
Housekeepers Quarters is a beautiful property situated on the top floor of The Old House. It has its own entrance from The Old House leading to a delightful large well defined accommodation. It has two very large bedrooms, one with a double bed and the other with twin beds ( but can be made into a large double). The twin room is large enough to add an occasional bed to make it comfortable for a family of 5. There is a fully equipped large kitchen and a barrel shaped sitting room with two settees and a a TV. This is a very large accommodation that allows a lot of space and privacy for those who seek it. Outside there is an acre ( 2.5 ares) of beautiful walled gardens which is safe for children and there are loungers for the adults to relax and enjoy.
Housekeepers sits in the middle of the old village of Nether Stowey just on the foothills of the Quantock Hills where you will find wonderful views across the Severn estuary across to wales, to Exmoor national Park, the Mendip Hills and the Blackdown Hills. Not many venues can offer so much.
We are central to many attractions and within easy access to popular places to visit. The ancient city of Wells with its famous and wonderful Cathedral and Bishops Palace, Glasonbury Torr, the caves of Wookey Hole and Cheddar, an its stunning gorge are all within commutable distance. If its retail therapy that's needed then there's Clarks Village.
National Trust and Heritage sites are more than abundant with several nearby. Dunster village with its incredible castle is some 25 mins away and the village well worthy of a visit. Kilve beach , a must place to visit or walk about is part of the North Somerset Jurassic coastline with its dramatic sight of quirky strata creating dynamic designs when the tide is out and looking the other direction towards the background of the Quantocks. But for walkers this is a golden area with so many walks for all abilities with the views to die for.
Watchet, an old port with two harbours is a lovely place to walk about especially in the evenings where you can enjoy fish and chips overlooking the marina. The South West Coastal Pathis only a few miles away, recently opend and passing through the newly created Steart Marshes where you can view both freshwater and saltwater birds. It also has easy paths to walk and enjoy.
There is so much to do and see a week will not be enough !

About the host
Hosted by Manor Scourfield
We are both retired headteachers who have chosen this new lifestyle.I was born and bread in west Wales and my wife is from Devon. We met while teaching in London area and relocated to the west country when we married in 1975.We thoroughly enjoy what we are now doing as we meet such a variety of interesting people who come and stay from one night to two weeks. We spend a lot of time in the garden which is Ann's pride and joy and she would spend as much time as possible tending it with much love and care. I think she prefers the company of the garden to that of me ! We try and get out as much as possible and enjoy our surroundings which never fails to amaze us. We feel so blessed with our home and area.
Why they chose this property
It provided us with both a home and a business opportunity, Both of us like to be busy and with this property there is always something to do. We have 3 holiday cottages even though one of them is on the top floor of our house. It is unique and has so many unusual features. It is independent of the rest of the house so we call it a cottage. It is very popular and well liked by our visitors. Our part of the house is well proportioned and Georgian in design and thus offers us something that we were unlikely to enjoy in smaller properties. We see it it very much as a lifestyle that many would like but could not afford.
The house has strong links with Tom Poole and the poets Coleridge and Wordsworth who are credited with the formation of the Romantic movement. Some of their best poetry was written whilst living in the area.

What makes this property unique
The history of this place is quite atmospheric and the garden a joy. It is so quiet and inspirational and no wonder the poets drew inspiration for its surroundings. The walled garden was a definite attraction as it provides privacy and peace. You can move around and enjoy the different aspects, the light and shade creates such different atmospheres to savour.
