About John Bickerstaff
My wife, Melissa, and I are both native Floridians. We own a floor covering business and live in Central Florida. We have three amazing children and have spent many wonderful times with them in our mountain home.
John Bickerstaff purchased this Chalet in 2004
Why John Bickerstaff chose Topton
We had been vacationing in the Nantahala area for years and decided we wanted our own retreat for our family there.
What makes this Chalet unique
We don't think you will find more incredible and beautiful long-range mountain views anywhere in the area. Sitting in our rockers or soaking in our hot tub while taking in those views in the quiet and peaceful surroundings is simply a little taste of heaven.

It was a lovely chalet with a great view of the mountains.
We had a great time!
Hi Emily, We are so glad y’all enjoyed yourselves! It is beautiful up there and one feels like they’re one step from Heaven. Thank you for taking the time to write a review and please come again. God bless you all. John
Wonderful, Amazing, Perfect,,,
This was one of the best vacations we have ever had. The cabin was wonderful and had so many things to do between the pool table, the arcade game, and the fantastic rope swing (our boys favorite), that we really didn't have to go anywhere. The cabin is also so close to Nantahala Lake and we were able to spend time out on a boat pulling an inner tube one day and do some kayaking another day and it was all only 5 minutes from the cabin. The cabin was very clean and well supplied and I really can't say enough about how well it was prepared for us. We are already planning our next trip to your cabin next year. Thank you again so much for everything.
Hi Richard, I want to thank you for taking the time to write this review. The fact y’all had such a nice time and the kind words mean so much to Melissa and me ! I have to admit that rope swing is fun :) We are thrilled you enjoyed your stay and please come again any time! God bless you all !!!!!
Great secluded gety away with beautiful surroundings!
We had such a great time as a family at this beautifully located cabin on top of this hill. It was a little steep to get up there but not unmanageable.
The cabin comfortable sleeps a ton of people! We only brought 7 people and still had plenty spare beds.
There were plenty of board games and other things to do away from cellular reception (Which is a blessing!) such as a Jacuzzi, pool table, pacman/space invader etc. Functional grill out near the front porch, plenty of rocking chairs, and a nice fire pit outside.
Just remember to bring all your groceries etc. as it's a hike to get to the nearest store after you get to the cabin. Anyhow, great place!!
Hi Jay , Melissa and I are thrilled y’all had such a nice time! The arcade machine seems to be a big hit with everyone:)....... I know my family likes it ! Thank you Jay for the nice review and we wish all guests were like you! Please come again and God bless you all ! John
Mountain get away
We enjoyed the serenity and comfort of the chalet. Communication with the hosts was flawless and the home is exactly as advertised.
Charlie could not have been a better guest! He was so appreciative of everything and had such nice things to say . We had an internet situation and he was so patient and understanding knowing I was doing my best( we got it worked out). Thankyou Charlie and you are the BEST!
A very charming and comfortable mountain home. Ideal for families and a true get away.
Very clean and well appointed. We had everything we needed to be comfortable and to enjoy some quiet time in the mountains. Kids loves the swing, pool table, arcade and board games. Parents loved the deck, the hot tub and the view of the mountains. Directions are accurate just need to follow them and not rely on GPS. Lots do do in the area including boating on the lake, whitewater rafting and a nearby trout farm!
I highy recommend this place and appreciate Johns prompt attention through the process.
House was beautiful, full of amenities.
Follow provided directions very carefully. No gps or cell service so you will get lost. Took us an extra hour to find. Property is located at the top of a ridge and is not an easy drive. 4x4 is not required but highly recommended, very steep grade on the ride in and grade was iced over most of our trip "pretty scetchy to say the least" if you arent use to mountainous terrains/driving would not attempt. Property is beautiful cabin was well maintained and stocked. If you like adult beverages bring your own because they are hard to locate. Approximately 20 mins to Andrews which is a small to but does have dollor store and groceries. We enjoyed the trip over all and got snow christmas eve night. Temps stayed in the 30s. Lots of fun things to do in the area. Really enjoyed the trip.
While our chalet is secluded and rural, we are less than 30 minutes from the town of Andrews that offers shopping, a quaint downtown area, a grocery store, Walgreens, restaurants, etc.
We charge an additional $20 per person per night for 8 or more guests and have a maximum of 10 guests. Check in time is 4:00 p.m. and checkout time is 10:00 a.m. but please contact us if either is a problem. Depending on the reservations we have before and/or after yours, we may be flexible about times.
