I see a return visit in the very near future
My family and I just stayed at this house for a little summer vacation before kids head back to school. Usually we go to the beach, but I think this will be our new vacation spot. House was very clean and it had everything you need (ie: towels, beach towels, kitchen utensils, dishes, etc.). It even has a washer and dryer. We enjoyed sitting by the firepit out by the lake. The view is absolutely beautiful. This house is great for a family getaway with 4 bedrooms and 1 and half baths. The kids enjoyed swimming in the lake and looking for cool rocks on the pebble beach. They also had fun fishing off the break wall where they caught a bunch of fish in the evening. The location was great too!
It is on a dead end road along the lake outside the town of Pulaski. The town of Pulaski is only a few minute drive if you need to go to the stores. We brought a huge cooler stocked with all the food we needed but now that we know there is a grocery store within 10 minutes from the house we will only need to pack a few necessities next time which will give us more room in the car. As I said before we usually go to the beach which is crowded where this place was nice and quiet and we had an area of the lake all to ourselves. The owner was great too! He responded quickly to a text I sent him and was very accommodating. It was a great time enjoyed by myself, husband and 2 kids. We can't wait to go back!
Peace and Quiet
This was my third time renting here, We feel like it's our summer home, Always enjoy the peace and quiet coming here We will be back next year. Thanks again Matt!
Home away from Home
This is the third time that we are staying in this cabin. It is cozy, friendly and homely. The location and view are incredible.
The View is What You Pay For
Overall: Enjoyed our stay. This is a very old rustic cottage so don't expect anything fancy. Yes, it's musty...it's a lake cottage with no A/C. If there were the possibility for A/C, a larger bed, and no mouse it would've been 5 stars.
Pros: Lovely view; quiet; allows pets; can faintly see Milky Way on clear nights; newly renovated full bath with good towels (nicest room in the cottage); also a half-bath which is handy; has Direct TV if you get tired of looking at the lake; can swim off of the neighbor's beach (looks abandoned); dishwasher; washer/dryer; decent kitchen amenities; fans in every room; gas fireplace looks inviting; good for one couple or a family with young children; owner communicated well; check-in and check-out were a breeze
Cons: Even with cool nights and a breeze, no A/C makes for clammy interiors (probably better suited for fall/spring when humidity is lower); rooms very small and are unable to accommodate beds larger than a double (had to put luggage in living room); there's a nuclear power plant to the left of the horizon but pretty easy to ignore; we saw a mouse and promptly told the owner who apologized and said he'd send an exterminator; stopper in tub wasn't working so a consideration for those with small children who still take baths; beach access is a bit difficult; beware of leeches and wear river shoes in the water; don't forget insect repellent (mosquitoes and biting flies)
All the necessities, but...
Highs: brand new bathroom with large tub and nice shower, right next to Lake Ontario, and appointed with everything you need including a well-equipped kitchen, laundry machines, large dining area and nice clean linens. Clearly very lovingly maintained with lots of thought reflected in the amenenities.
Cons: It was a little more rustic than we expected— what looked like wood paneling is actually unfinished walls. When we arrived the windows were sealed tight and curtains pulled and it was very stuffy and dusty— causing my son’s asthma to flare up and giving me itchy skin and eyes. It was a bit rainy so we had to stay indoors a bit and it was hard to keep rain out without adding to the stuffy feeling. the whole space was kind of oddly laid-out, with a fireplace blocking the view of the lake from the living room.
The owners were very nice and I think it would be great for people without asthma/dust allergies.... and definitely the weather makes a big difference!
We had a very nice time! We enjoyed the sunsets, the swimming, the house was perfect especially with the 2 bathrooms! The beds were very comfortable. Would definitely consider staying there again!
