About the property

Experience a vacation that is tranquil and unhurried

Pelican's Perch is a single level cottage with 3 bedroom/2 baths, located on the west end of the island (6 streets from Midland road beach access). The house has been newly renovated with updated decor, 2 plush queen beds, and 2 plush XL twin beds; All linens are provided. There is a screened in porch to keep you away from cousin skeeter (that's southern talk for mosquitoes) or keep you out of the sun. There are two tvs with premium (HBO, Showtime, and Cinemax) cable, a roku, an apple tv, a dvd, and plenty of movies. All bedrooms, living room, and screened in porch have ceiling fans. It is close to restaurants, grocery stores, shopping, boat ramps, piers, lighthouses, a movie theater, putt putt, and ....of course...the BEACH.

It is a short 1 mile drive/walk to the beach and only one street away from the inter-coastal waterway. Yacht Drive offers lovely views of the Inter-coastal waterway while walking or biking. There is a public walkway/dock overlooking the inter-coastal on 4th and a small park on 14th street.

Oak Island has miles of beaches, Plenty of beach accesses, public boating access facilities, scenic walkways, two fishing piers and lots more. There is also a city center with 5 public tennis courts, soccer/ball field, skateboard park, and new playground. They also hold small festivals and outdoor concerts. A small private airport is just off the Island and offers plane island tours and parachuting. There are several marinas close to our home that offer boat, jet ski, and paddle board rentals. They also offer sunset cruises and deep sea fishing. Don't miss the sunset at one of the marina restaurants, while sipping a cocktail. If you don't feel like going out, stay at home and cook in our fully equipped kitchen or grill out in the backyard! Enjoy your meal, the breeze, and fireflies out back on the screened in porch.

Just minutes up the road from OKI, you’ll find the historic town of Southport (#1 America's Happiest Seaside Town in 2015) where you can grab a coffee, take a break on one of the many swings, stroll the oak lined streets, and/or shop for unique gifts and antiques. Take a day trip on the ferry from Southport to Bald Head Island where you can rent a golf cart (no cars allowed on the island) and tour the island. Or, take the ferry to Fort Fisher and visit the Civil War Museum or the North Carolina Fort Fisher Aquarium. Pack a picnic lunch, feed the birds, and search for starfish among the mossy rocks.

Historic Wilmington, NC is a little over 30 miles away. With a colorful past, including lots of pirates, this is a fun city to tour, on foot or by carriage! Visit the USS North Carolina battleship while you are there! Lots of neat shops and restaurants are on Chandlers Wharf!

It's a 45 min drive to North Myrtle beach if you want to do some outlet mall shopping or see a big crowd.

Whether you want an active vacation or a relaxing one, OKI is the place for you!

Loved this property!

  • 5 of 5

Loved the decor and how clean it is! Loved having x things in the shed to play with (cornhole). Wish we had more time there to enjoy the bikes but mayb next time! I did have to sew a hole or two in the cornhole bags! Also had lawn chairs in the back of the shed! Love this property, hope to rent again but longer next time! Thank you for sharing this home!

Owner's Response: Thanks for taking the time to review our home. Sorry about the corn-hole bags but thanks for sewing them up. I will have to take a look at the bags but my sewing skills aren't up to par; might call for new bags. We would love to have you back for a longer stay.

Pelican’s Perch

  • 5 of 5

We loved our stay! The house was very clean, comfortable, and in good repair. It was appointed with everything we needed; kitchen ware, bedding, laundry and more. The home is in a low traffic area and quiet. We appreciated the owners attention to detail. For example, books and DVDs. The location provided easy access to the beach and many other sites of interest. Lowe’s grocery is nearby. Southport is close as well. Do not miss going to Burney’s Bakery!

OBTW read the owners provided information on the VRBO app. It has scads on information on the area and home. It is a savy and well done description written with style. You won't go wrong renting this home.

Clean & Comfortable in quiet neighborhood

  • 5 of 5

Nicely decorated and comfortable. We mostly just slept here and hung out at my sisters home. You need to bring your own paper products and soaps.

Thanks for sharing your home.

The Town boasts 65 public beach accesses on miles of sandy beaches, as well as fishing docks and piers, boat ramps and many other access points to the Intracoastal Waterway and the Davis Canal, making it the perfect location for fishing, boating, kayaking and other water activities. The Town also has a municipal golf course and eight parks, ranging from a fishing T at the west end of the island to a large park on the mainland complete with baseball and football fields.
