We stayed at the Gite for a month with our two children (6 & 8) and really enjoyed our time. The setting is beautiful, awesome 360 degree views, with only the noise of cow bells and frogs to hear. We found the gite very lovingly restored, the beds were comfortable (lighter bedding or sheets would have been good as we found ourselves too warm towards the end of our stay when the weather heated up), and the shower was excellent. The kitchen is a bit on the small side (lacking bench space) and could use some TLC - the dishwasher racks had broken wheels, one of the gas jets didn't stay alight - and the kitchen lacked basic items like salad and mixing bowls. Other than this, the rest of the gite was very spacious and comfortable. The fire worked well when we needed to use it.
A note to future guests is that there are no basic pantry 'staples' provided (such as oil, salt, pepper, sugar) or cleaning and maintenance products, other than what appeared to be left over from previous guests. We had to purchase items that we would expect to find in a holiday rental like garbage bags, kitchen cleaning cloths, dishwashing tablets and firefighters.
Our children loved that there were some toys and English books, they enjoyed playing outside with the resident cat Pickle, building a cubby house with the owners' children, the trampoline, table tennis and of course the pool! We enjoyed soaking up the view, cycling through the rolling hills, relaxing by the pool and using the gite to explore the Ariege region.
The region has a lot to offer - walks, cycling, caves, mountains, Prehistoric attractions, ropes courses (acro branch), rivers as well as many small towns. There were plenty of tourist brochures in the gite which was a great help in planning trips.
A car is a must. We would highly recommend this property to friends.
