A really lovely house with many original features, which was ideal for us spending part of our holiday with our daughter's family: the oldies had the upstairs bedroom and en suite, with its own lounge, and the younger family had the almost self-contained part at the end of the corridor downstairs, with their own en suits as well as the family bathroom.
All the fittings are of great quality, and worked well, including the free WiFi. Being a late season trip, although we had wonderful weather, we were glad of the turf (peat) fire in the main sitting room which took the chill off the main part of the house without using the rather costly central heating.
Liz was always readily contactable by phone. SMS or e-mail, and kept in touch to see how things were going and sort out any queries etc.
Paying for the electricity separately seems unnecessary and we personally would rather see it included in the property rental, and I could see winter heating being expensive.
I would thoroughly recommend this property to friends or family. Its location would be hard to beat - only about 15 minutes' drive from charming Clifden and all its shops, bars and restaurants, but also easy of access to the Cleggan and Renvyle peninsulas, the boat to Inishbofin, Letterfrack and the local high quality supermarket, and trips further north to Leenaun and Killary Harbour. We loved Glassilaun beach, and the walk over to Omey Island from beyond Cleggan, as well as our trip to Inishbofin. In the other direction, the bog road and Roundstone and Dog's Bay are well worth visiting.
In terms of location, the house is very quiet, being far enough off the main road for there to be no noise or awareness of it at all. It's only about 2 minutes from the road, though, so getting places by car or cycle is dead easy. Walking from the house, however, would really be limited to walking up the hill road, as the main Letterfrack-Clifden road and the way down to the shore etc. is very twisty and really a bit dangerous for walking. We walked a LOT during our two weeks, but always drove somewhere to do so. That said, for us the quiet country location with easy road access seemed preferable to perhaps a more direct peninsula-beach position, such as around Cleggan or on the Renvyle, where you are not so central.
We were fortunate to be there during the amazing Clifden Arts Festival and went to several events, thoroughly enjoying learning more about local culture, art and history.
A brilliant holiday.
