About this property

Modern family farmhouse with pool 'La Garenterie'

Welcome to rural Calvados,France. It is beautifully peaceful and a great place to relax and unwind with only cows and birds for distraction. Enjoy our Owls, Hawks, Bats and birds. We can be flexible about most things so please send a message with any specific requests! Food can be arranged for your arrival, breakfast or a fridge full of supplies, so please contact us for details.

The house is bright and airy with lots of space for a family get together, friends and kids to explore. The above ground pool is available for all bookings between May and 1st September. It is not heated.

We live in the barn adjoining the house but will only be seen if you need us! Your space is private and we respect that, however we are always on hand if you need us.
The pretty market town of Vire is a 15 minute drive away where you will find the closest supermarkets, boulangerie, patisserie, bars and cafes, all surrounding the beautiful castle remains. Market day is Friday and you'll find all sorts of lovely food and bargains here. There are also some lovely cafes to sit and watch the world go by. There is a swimming pool in Vire, Flers and Conde sur Noireau with water slides and a family pool-all very well priced. You will also find a municipal golf course and the stunning Lac Dathee just outside of Vire too. The D day landing beaches and coastal resorts such as Granville, Houlgate and Carrells (amazing rock pooling for kids) are all an hours drive away. The Bayeux Tapestry, Mont Saint Michael and the British War Cemetery are also within an hour’s drive. If you want to explore beautiful scenery then the area of Suisse Normand and Bagnoles de Lorne are both within an hours drive. Mont Cerissy Belle Etoille is 15 minutes away and great fun for kids - a park set around castle ruins it has beautiful woodland walks and view points with stunning scenery of Normandy. Take a picnic!
You can have lunch on the river in Pont D'ouilly 40 minutes away. Viaduc de Souleuvre is only half an hour away offering beautiful scenery and adrenaline activities like bungy and forest swings! The Zoo de Jurques is amazing set within a forest and is a great family day out.
A car is essential for food shopping and exploring unless you're here for the local cycling routes!
There is secure storage for bicycles and motorbikes and plenty of parking for you all.

Beautiful place for an amazing holiday

This gorgeous farmhouse is an amazing place to stay. The hosts are brilliant, the place is so clean and lovely. The kids loved the pool. Perfect place to stay in France. We’ll be back!

What a wonderful place to stay and relax. We were close enough to see Normandy and Mt. Saint Michelisland by car. Natalie and Dan were great hosts! Very comfortable and well equipped lodging. Beautiful countryside.

Magic

Loved our stay. Fantastic hosts, who can’t do enough for you. Splendid accommodation in an idyllic setting. Ideally positioned to do the beaches, the beach and Mont St Michel (all about an hour). We hope to go back!

Idyllic Retreat

What a fantastic place. It was so peaceful in the middle of the beautiful Calvados countryside. Near enough to local town (Tinchebray) to pick up the day’s pastries and bread. An hour and a bit from the coast but the drives were a pleasure on quiet, well kept roads. Closer in is Vire and the gorges, as well as the excellent Zoo des Jurques. Our excellent hosts Natalie and Dan were so welcoming and helpful, though they had the place so well set up and so comfortable and clean that we really didn’t have to ask for anything. Perfect family holiday. Highly recommended.

A fabulous place to stay!

The welcome could not have been better. Happy, friendly faces and some goodies to get us started. Nat and Dan have done an amazing job creating an atmospheric, relaxing, and rustic gite.....home from home. The place was spotless which meant a lot to us and we could just move in for the week and enjoy our holiday. Great views, peaceful spot and excellent places to visit nearby. We would recommend taking binoculars to spy on all the wildlife 😀. Thank you for making our holiday one to remember. We hope to return. Sue and family x

A wonderful week

We had a wonderful week at Natalie and Dan’s holiday home. They are warm and attentive hosts – after our long journey, we were welcomed so kindly and felt at home from the very first moment.The house was spotlessly clean – probably the cleanest accommodation we’ve ever stayed in – and it truly had everything one could need for a relaxing holiday. The location, right in the middle of nature, immediately brings a sense of peace and escape from everyday life.For our children, the house was a little paradise: there was plenty of toys and, of course, the pool, which provided lots of fun and variety.The surrounding area also has a lot to offer. There are many beautiful places to explore, and we simply didn’t have time to see them all during our one-week stay. Fortunately, Natalie and Dan were always ready with great recommendations and were helpful whenever we needed anything.We would have loved to stay longer and can wholeheartedly recommend this holiday home. Thank you for everything – we’d love to come back!

Excellent séjour chez Natalie et Dan. La maison est parfaite, super bien équipée et confortable (c'est encore mieux et plus joli que sur les photos), mais surtout, les hôtes sont adorables et ont été pleins de petites attentions pour nous. Nous avons eu l'impression d'être attendus et choyés, nous en sommes très reconnaissants. Entre les vaches, les jeux à disposition et la piscine, les enfants ont aussi passé de merveilleuses vacances. On reviendra !

Super vakantie!

We hebben een fantastisch verblijf gehad. Natalie en Dan zijn hele fijne verhuurders. De familieboerderij heeft alles wat je nodig hebt, het is er ruim en heeft mooie grote slaapkamers. Het ligt in een prachtige omgeving waar vanalles te doen is. Natalie en Dan bedankt voor alles.

Super séjour dans un lieu magnifique !

La maison de Natalie et Dan est super, parfaitement équipée pour les familles (nous étions avec 4 bébés et n'avons manqué de rien). Le jardin est magnifique, super bien entretenu et en pleine nature. La communication est facile et on remercie encore Natalie et Dan pour leurs attentions. Nous avons vraiment passé un super séjour.

fijn en mooi ingericht huis, van alle gemakken voorzien

We hebben een heel goed verblijf gehad in dit mooie huis. We hebben ons er echt even thuis gevoeld. Dan en Natalie zijn fijne verhuurders, ontspannen, dichtbij, terwijl we heel veel privacy hebben ervaren. We hebben genoten van Caen, mont st Michel, saint Malo, omaha beach, Houlgate (erg mooi!)

Great country farm house with wonderful host/owner

This is a great farm house in the Normandy countryside. Ideally located to explore all that Normandy has to offer. About an hour or so to Caen, D-Day beaches, Flers, and Mont-Saint-Michel. The accommodations were lovely and Natalie and Dan were exceptional hosts, very gracious and helpful the whole time! Merci beaucoup for the amazing visit!

Rural tranquility

A second visit to Dan and Natalie's beautiful house and just as lovely as the first. An elegantly simple house with everything you need in a beautiful, peaceful setting. The weather was even good enough to use the pool. An excellent base location for exploring lower Normandy with plenty to do for all ages. Natalie and Dan are perfect thoughtful hosts and the welcome basket was much appreciated. Looking forward to returning again in the future.

Beautiful restored house in a relaxed rural setting combines simplicity and style. Spacious with everything we need. Perfectly placed for exploring a wide variety of activities, historical sites,beaches and countryside. A really beautiful place. Our house is very chilled having recently swapped the hustle and bustle of London life for rural France. The house has a light and airy feel to it with a mix of salvaged old and new furnishings. We live in the adjoining barn but your privacy is our priority so you'll only know we're there if you need us or all our kids are playing together!

Why they chose this property

We fell in love with this house and it's barns as soon as we saw it - it was the estate agents 'wild card'! It feels very rural but is close enough to Vire and Flers for shopping and only an hour or so away from the beautiful coast and most tourist attractions. We are surrounded by farm land and fields with lots of wild life, birds, bats, deer and cows very close by which is incredibly relaxing. Converting our barn certainly beats the central London rush hour life and we love it!

What makes this property unique

If you listen really hard you may hear a tractor in the distance, but you will have to get past the sound of our local birds, Hawks, Kestrels and cows to hear it!
Our above ground pool is all yours between May and September. It is 16 ft long and 4 ft deep so perfect and safe for the summer.
There is a derelict 14th century manor house of historical interest in our grounds which, hopefully, we may get to restore one day. We hope you will love it too and look forward to seeing you!
