About the property

House, 3 Bedrooms + Loft, 1.5 Baths, (Sleeps 6-8)

This charming mountain home is nestled on Wintergreen Mountain, just a few hundred yards from the Mountain Lodge - the center of Wintergreen Resort. We’re located right off the main road, near all the activity centers of the resort - just a :60 second ride to the Mountain Inn, near skiing, restaurants, shops and groceries.

We’re set up for families and children, friends and couples. The house comfortably sleeps 6-8 persons in three bedrooms plus a huge loft. We recommend six adults max or four adults and four kids (although with kids, you could probably get in a few more if you needed). We have no additional cost for extra guests.

While we are not a five-star luxury home, our home is a cozy, well-decorated mountain cabin with plenty of comfort. See our pictures to find soaring wood beams, a newly renovated kitchen with granite countertops, a beautiful, backlit tile backsplash and clean, modern appliances. Both bathrooms were also recently renovated, as were the floors and deck.

There is Wifi throughout the house and a 42” HDTV TV with premium movie channels and DVD player in the family room. A packed bookshelf in the master bedroom offers dozens of best sellers to cozy up with in our loft or for a crisp morning read on the deck.

We allow well-behaved, house-broken, groomed dogs. There is a $49 non-refundable pet fee. This covers any damages up to $1500. Well worth the peace of mind. This service is offered by VRBO and does not come through to us. The insurance is available to all guests.

With wooded mountain views and large deck, the cabin is the perfect getaway to relax and enjoy the mountain life.

WE DO NOT OFFER PASSES TO THE WINTERGARDEN SPA/POOL.

Our house comes with access to two outdoor heated pools. The Chestnut Springs Pool and Pavilion are minutes away. The Rodes Farm pool in the valley offers volleyball court, kiddie pool, horseshoes and tennis. These facilities are available to guests between Memorial Day and Labor Day, without charge. If you book yourself a massage or other service at the Wintergarden Spa you do have all day access to the facilities.

Hiking maps, brochures, menus to local restaurants and information guides are all available at the house for your use. We do ask that you return them upon your departure.

We purchased this house in 2007 with some family friends of ours to create memories with our children growing up in the mountains. Over the years we've had incredible times. Our kids learned to ski and snowboard, hike the waterfalls, go tubing, explore nature and grow up together.

This house is not a *luxury* cabin. That's not what we were looking for - it's a charming, cozy cabin in the woods - with all the amenities you need for a modern stay. We're located 1/4 mile from the main lodge and offer plenty of parking. Once you walk in our cabin, you'll understand why we fell in love with it.

Always good to come home...

Yes, I am one of the property owners, but we don't get up to the cabin as frequently as we once did. They kids are now getting a bit older and hanging with Mom and Dad isn't exactly what they want to be doing for a week. This year they brought some friends with them and we got to see how the house handles adults and a bunch of tweens. Hopefully you all find his review helpful...

A great week overall. The boys (ages 15) were of age to walk up to the Mountains Inn. They brought mountain bikes and hit the runs. All the kids brought their Enos. There are some great trees in the front for hanging. They fished in the ponds at Stoney's Creek (free) and played cornhole and frisbee at the brewpubs at the base. The girls (13) enjoyed the spa ($20 spa treatments gave them access to the indoor/outdoor pool and hitting all a day) and the outdoor Chestnut Springs pool.

As we always do, we find ways to improve the house on our stay. There is a new full size air mattress, we freshened up the "library" with some modern books (long overdue) and gave the grill a good cleaning. We also are having the deck stained, the ceiling in the 3rd bedroom repaired and new fan installed in the bathroom. New telephones are on order as well as some more glassware, a bathmat, exterior lights and towels.

As always, please let us know how we can improve the house. We try to keep our rates very reasonable, while providing a comfortable home away from home.

It's 75 degrees in the mountains - come up and enjoy a break from the heat!

OK on some level I was reluctant to not give this house more than three stars and on another level I was reluctant to give it three stars. The owners of the house could not have been more wonderful to deal with. Answered all of our questions right away, gave us a refund for a night that we had originally committed to by mistake, allowed our dogs . The kitchen was stocked enuf with essentials. However, the house is very worn , dingy and nit so clean. There are no screens on the sliders so you can't open the doors to the deck, there is no umbrella on the outside table on the deck so you can't get out of the sun. There is no bed larger than a double, and all the linens and covers for the beds are really worn. There are tears in the living room furniture. The house is the corner house on a very busy road through Wintergreen. So it's a little bit noisy and when one of our friends drove into the driveway his car went off the side and we had to virtually a lift it back on because it's hard to see where the drop off is . It is really wonderful to have a place that allows you to bring your pets. That being said I think this house really needs some TLC. Oh no Wintergreen is a great place to visit especially if you have kids. And the brewery at the end of the road is fantastic definitely worth a visit .

Owner's Response: Hi Nancy - We appreciate your honest assessment and the feedback and apologize that some elements of your stay were not inline with your expectations. I'd like to address a few of them - as my family just spend a week at the house (2 weeks after you). Road Noise: We experienced this as well. Summertime is construction time at Wintergreen - and this includes road paving. Dump trucks were up and down the mountain frequently - and they are very noisy. Unfortunately, it's just timing and out of our control. Normal traffic up the road does not carry the noise these trucks can create. Driveway: There are three parking spots, two upper tier, one lower. This is the first time we've had anyone report this issue (we've had the house 11 years). However, it makes good sense to put in some parking markers. We'll make that happen. Beds: The beds are QUEEN beds and the quilts and linens for the two main bedrooms are new as of January 2017. We will have our management team inventory the sheets and remove any that are worn out. Screens/Umbrella: I thought of this too as we were up there last week. We will add this recommendation to our list. Unfortunately for the umbrella - we've had them in the past and guests tend to leave them up during the day. When storms roll in, they blow out and break windows. Cleanliness: We did not have any issues on our arrival. I will speak with the management team and advise of your concerns. As we make clear in our listing, this is an older home. We make the house as comfortable as we can for guests and continue to make improvements several times/year (Ordered in August: Deck Stain, 3rd Bedroom New Roof, New Glassware in Kitchen, New Bathmats, New Phones). Our goal is to provide a comfortable, affordable home - with pet access - on Wintergreen Mountain. We do hope that aside from these issues - the house suited your needs. Wintergreen is a great area to visit. The breweries, as you shared, are fantastic. We continue to find new hikes, fishing holes and activities to keep us busy in the off-season. The house was as advertised. It was clean and

Located conveniently for my purposes. Two of the three beds were not great: one was like sleeping on lightly padded plywood the other a bit like an under inflated air mattress.

The thing you should know but isnt clear from the ad. Bring food. The closest grocery store is in Waynesboro, a one hour round trip. The mountain top market has very limited offerings and is quite expensive.

Overall, a good experience and I would rent again.

Owner's Response: Thank you for the feedback on the beds. I suspect that you are referring to the bunk futon and the loft futon. We'll look into getting some mattress pads for those to add a bit more cushion. In the future, there is an IGA Grocery Store in Nellysford - about 8 miles down the mountain is better priced than the Wintergreen Market. Waynseboro is definitely a hike! My buddies & I had a great time staying in your home.. Very comfortable living & dining area.. Great location too !! The only problem we encountered

was no channels on the T. V.
