This was our second visit with our grandchildren and lived up to our expectations again. The children loved the daily visits by the mother hen and her chicks, the weather was good and the cottage has every facility needed.
This place is perfect. Remote, but within walking distance to a pub and short drive to Staithes, Whitby and Saltburn. The cottage has everything you could possibly need-comfy beds, fantastic views and even a thoughtful welcome pack. Malcolm was a fab host and check in was really smooth. No internet, but the board games more than made up for that!
Booked Ivy Cottage for a surprise long weekend for my Husbands 50th Birthday. From start to finish, communication with Malcolm the owner was faultless. Nothing was too much trouble for him to find out for me. The cottage is very large, in lovely condition and there’s some history of the place in the visitor folder. It also has a lovely large garden with swings and a slide if you go with children. The views from the conservatory are amazing! All the way down to the coast. We ate at The Ellerby Hotel as it was a special occasion and we throughly enjoyed it. Very reasonable prices we thought too. We loved Runswick Bay. Lovely little cafe at the bottom. Plenty of seats to recover from the steep walk down, and a beautiful bay. We loved our day in Staithes and you have to try and visit “Dotties Cafe” just at the bottom of the walk down, you won’t be disappointed. We had the most amazing date and walnut scones 😋😋. The little beach and the walk to the harbour wall of the tide is out well worth it. Back to our lovely cottage. There is everything you need for a short or long stay. It’s lovely and clean and plenty of hot water. We will definitely be going back. Thank you again Malcolm for all your help with restaurants etc. ☺️
Excellent cottage in a perfect location. Perfect to getting away from technology and relaxing.
Great comms with owner and everything you need is provided.
Our third visit (in 18 years) and we will certainly return again very soon.
Great location if you want peaceful and to explore the area.
Beautiful views all round.
Would recommend to family and friends
Definitely will visit again.
Well positioned with spectacular views in a quiet village that we all appreciated. This beautiful property is spacious, comfortable and well equipped. Thank you very much for letting us stay
Lovely cottage close to so many beautiful beaches. Hosts very helpful and welcoming. Very spacious and well equipped accommodation with the most amazing views. The only minor problem was the boiler had just been serviced and the smell of oil was a little overpowering at times. Wouldn't hesitate to recommend though!
Our family enjoyed a fantastic week in this characterful accommodation! It was immediately presented for our arrival, and we were delighted to meet the owner on arrival. The welcome pack was a delightful little extra introduction to this beautiful part of the country.
The hamlet location with a coastal view provided a restful contrast to our usual family routine, and so many places of interest, including local shops, proved to be more accessible than we had imagined!
All told, we enjoyed a wonderful week based in this fantastic accommodation!
Thanks Malcolm and family!
We had a lovely week in this well appointed, clean and comfortable 18th century cottage. It has everything you need for a relaxing stay and the view over the fields to the sea are just stunning! It was fun watching the friendly chickens too. It's a bit way out, which is why we picked it but the local co-op is only a 10 min drive as well as Staithes for shopping. We found it was an ideal base for touring the area. Malcolm is a great communicator and also provided a welcome basket which was a lovely surprise on arrival. We will definitely stay again if we return to the area and highly recommend this cottage. Top tip - watch out for the barn owl at sunset!
This pretty cottage was the perfect getaway after lockdown. It was in a slightly isolated spot but beaches and small towns including Whitby and Scarborough were not too far away.
The cottage was old and quirky with a great garden and play area. Chickens came to visit every day. It had everything needed to make it a home from home. The owner was very pleasant, quickly answered my questions and kept us informed of a very minor issue on the roadway.
All of us, adults and children enjoyed our time there.
Comfortable and spacious cottage and everything is provided - including board games and play equipment for children. The views are breathtaking! We were met at the back door each morning with a local hen and her family of chicks- the children loved this! There is so much to do in the area- Whitby, Danby, Staithes. When we arrived, we were greeted by Malcolm personally and on the table were gifts of wine, plum bread, delicious jam and biscuits. We would definitely return to this lovely cottage!

Lovely country cottage
We enjoyed a lovely week in the cottage with our young grandchildren. The sea views are amazing, the cottage is better than described, and the garden is spacious and child friendly. There are numerous games and toys which the children enjoyed playing, and the hens from over the road visited every day! We visited Whitby, and spent time on the lovely beach at Sandsend. We received a warm welcome from Malcolm and Sue, and enjoyed the goodies left for us.
We look forward to visiting again soon.
