This newly remodeled three bedroom home has it all! Tiled kitchen with new appliances is well equipped and supplied for cooking at home. I always like to say if I don't have it, you won't need it! It also has a dishwasher. Nice for larger groups or longer stays. There is a separate dining room with mountain views. The living room is large-nicely furnished and comfortable. There is a fireplace and plenty of fragrant cedar firewood provided. There are three bedrooms. Front bedroom has a queen, middle bedroom is also a queen and the master bedroom has a king. Each bedroom has closet space and a dresser . I provide two cozy robes in each bedroom too for lazy mornings or comfy evenings. There are two tiled full baths with soaps, shampoo/conditioner and hair dryer provided. This home was totally remodeled in early 2016. It was quite an undertaking! All walls and kitchen cabinets were painted a warm cream. All new operable screened windows and stained trim. Tongue and groove ceilings (I stained 1300 feet of tongue and groove. Whew!) New trim tile in the blue bathroom and completely new mango bathroom. Then the fun part, the furnishing and decorating! I furnish with my antiques and treasures from local consignment stores and estate sales. All my bedding and towels are from my favorite Company Store catalogue so all bright colors and high quality. I love original Taos art so you will find it in every room. I have a penchant for whimsy and it's here and there. I am often asked about my decorating style- I call it "Melissiana". Actually my plumber said it best when he said, "Nothing you do makes any sense, but when you are done, it all works!" This home is located on a quiet one block dead end street. The only sounds you hear are birds, wind chimes and the church bells from Our Lady of Guadalupe Church a block away. There is private on site parking. A walled courtyard with big trees, lilacs and plants offer outdoor living spaces for two and four legged guests. I was a professional landscaper in California before I moved to Taos and it is still my passion. In ground flowering plants as well as boxes decorated by me and big ceramic pots full of color are everywhere. There are two outdoor living areas in front. To the left of the front gate there is a vintage glider and to the right a table and six comfortable chairs as well as a large charcoal BBQ grill. There is an additional outdoor living area off the master bedroom in the back. As with all ten of my properties Casa Grande is pet friendly. I only ask for $10 per night per pet to be added when booking. I provide dog sheets to cover sofa and beds and ask guests to pick up after dog. This home is actually part of a fourplex compound. I live in one of the little casitas so am always available to answer any questions. There are also two additional casitas that I rent for short term visits. Casa azul (Vrbo 797997) And Casa Verde (Vrbo 920144). Each have living/dining, tiled baths and queen bedrooms. Each also have private walled courtyards. Often guests rent the compound for large groups. I can sleep up to ten guests on this property.. There is a central laundry room available for all my guests and on site parking. Casa Grande is located on a quiet, one block dead end street and is only three blocks from Taos Plaza. This downtown compound was featured on the 2017 Taos Home & Garden Tour where on a Saturday in August 500 tour goers had a chance to check out my style. Too much fun!!! If this home is booked for your dates please look at Vrbo 482097 another of my downtown homes which also offers three bedrooms and two baths. I offer guests who stay more than 30 days a generous 50% discount and a pet fee of $100 per pet per stay.
Our prices include all fees. No hidden fees.

This is a charming residence. We explored all around the house, inside and out, amazed at how authentic NM it was. We only stayed over night but it is a great place for a several day stay.

Thanks for your review and glad you enjoyed your one night stay.
You are right. This home is great for a longer stays with private bedrooms, but communal gathering places inside and out, an onsite laundry room, and a dishwasher. Also it’s only 3 blocks to the Plaza.
Sometimes guests even rent the entire compound of the four homes for groups of up to 12!
Come back and visit anytime.
We loved staying in the house which was cozy, full of interesting art and books and had all the amenities. It is actually a great representative of Taos and we would love to stay there again.
Because of a water main break in the house we were originally going to rent, Melissa worked with us to instead stay in Casa Madre. Even though not the place we originally planned on, Casa Madre was really quite nice. Lovely shaded front and back porches. We particularly enjoyed our wine and pizza on the back porch. Art galleries and restaurants were located within walking distance. Casa Madre felt quite homey for the 3 of us. We loved the living room and kitchen where we could gather together. And we loved having our own separate bedrooms. Would definitely stay there again if we ever return to Taos.

This home was beautifully decorated and was basically clean. However, it was very hot in Taos when we visited and we were expecting air conditioning, which was listed in the amenities. However, the only type of "air conditioning" that was available were overhead ceiling fans in each room which only began to cool things off later at night, when the outside temperature was coming down some. It necessitated us going out to eat that night because it was uncomfortably hot in the house. Also, during our visit July 30-31st) there was an infestation of elm beetles, so there were beetles mostly concentrated in one room, although they could be found throughout the house. We had to either vacumn up the beetles or rinse them down the drain when we found them.

The elm beetles are here when it’s hot and I had pest control here twice to spray
I do wish you had mentioned I had my housekeeper there to vacuum any beetles within ten minutes.
Casa Grande was exceptionally clean and was well equipped for our overnight stay. The decor was charming and the beds were comfortable. The host provided great directions and check in was easy. Would definitely stay here again!
The location and property were perfect for our quick weekend trip.

I would love to be able to rate this properly, however a day before leaving for our trip Melissa contacted me via email to tell me there was a water issue. She switched us to a rustic property outside town, 911 Upper Ranchito Road. While charming and clean, the property wasn't what we hoped for for our brother's 60th birthday trip. Most significantly, instead of three bedrooms it had two with a detached casita that required going outside to get to an outhouse.
This house is in a great location, less than 1/2 mile walk from the Plaza, and that is what you pay for: the location. Otherwise, we were disappointed in the condition of the house. First off: we filtered our search for houses with a/c, and this listing showed up. But, click a few screens in, and you find it is not a/c'd; just ceiling fans and screened windows (and lots of small sand beetles that come in through the screens). Second: the cleaning was below expectations. The toilet seat in the master bath had mold on it; the hall bath tub was moldy; my husband lost his shoe under the bed and found it next to a piece of beef jerky; the courtyards would be nice to sit outside in the evening, but the furniture is worn and dirty. The couch in the living room is so worn out, you're practically sitting on the floor. We had camp chairs in our car and used those for our stay. The kitchen seemed well-stocked, but we only used the fridge. The beds were comfortable and there were plenty of towels. The neighborhood is quiet. To sum it up: if staying near the Plaza is important to you and you don't plan to do much more than sleep there, it's just OK.

As hosts a primary goal is always creating a pleasant stay for guests.
It seems like every once in a while a guest is dissatisfied even before arrival. They are often the one with the most demands prior to booking.
I am not going to refute all these claims that led to this review.
I just ask any prospective guest to glance at my many reviews and draw their own conclusion
Love the decorating! Thank you for letting us stay!

I moved to Taos 11 years ago from Marin County California where I was a professional landscaper and raised my three children as a single mom. When they were grown and gone I wanted to move to a more authentic area and chose Taos. I started buying homes and fixing them up and realized I loved doing. I started renting them on VRBO and love everything about it!
Why they chose this property
As they say Location, Location, Location! Three blocks from the Plaza in the Taos Historic District, private walled courtyards and lots of off street parking. Plus I like the challenge of renovating neglected properties and a chance to collect furniture, whimsy and expand my local Taos art collection.
What makes this property unique
Privacy, location and personality. The two small casitas on this property are perfect for one-two guests and this main home Casa Grande sleeps six.
