About the property

Three Bedroom Downtown Home/ Privacy And Charm

This newly remodeled three bedroom home has it all! Tiled kitchen with new appliances is well equipped and supplied for cooking at home. I always like to say if I don't have it, you won't need it! There is a separate dining room with mountain view. The living room is large-nicely furnished and comfortable. There is a fireplace and plenty of fragrant cedar firewood provided. There are three bedrooms. Front bedroom has a queen, middle bedroom has a double (with a quilt made by a great aunt of mine)and the master bedroom has a king. Each bedroom has closet space and a dresser and I provide two cozy robes in each bedroom too for lazy mornings or comfy evenings. There are two tiled full baths with soaps and shampoo/conditioner provided.

This home was totally remodeled in early 2016. It was quite an undertaking! Of course all walls and kitchen cabinets were painted a warm cream. All new operable screened windows and new stained trim. Tongue and groove ceilings (I stained 1300 feet of tongue and groove. Whew!) New trim tile in the blue bathroom and completely new mango bathroom.

Then the fun part, the furnishing and decorating! I furnish with my antiques and treasures from local consignment stores and estate sales. All my bedding and towels are from my favorite Company Store catalogue so all bright colors and high quality. I love original Taos art so you will find it in every room. I have a penchant for whimsy and it's in every room here and there. I am often asked about my decorating style- I call it "Melissiana". Actually my plumber said it best when he said, "Nothing you do makes any sense, but when you are done, it all works!"

This home is located on a quiet one block dead end street. The only sounds you hear are birds a wind chime and the church bells from Our Lady of Guadalupe a block away. There is private on site parking. There is a walled courtyard with big trees, lilacs and soon will be totally landscaped. I was a professional landscaper in California before I moved to Taos and it is still my passion. In ground flowering plants as well as boxes decorated by me and big ceramic pots full of color.

There are two outdoor living areas in front. To the left of the front gate there is a vintage glider and to the right a table and six comfortable chairs as well as a large BBQ grill. There is an additional outdoor living area off the master bedroom in the back.

As with all ten of my properties Casa Grande is pet friendly.

This home is actually part of a fourplex compound. I live in one of the little casitas so am always available to answer any questions. There are also two additional casitas that I rent for short term visits. Casa azul (Vrbo 797997) And Casa Verde (Vrbo 920144). Each have living/dining, tiled baths and queen bedrooms. Each also have private walled courtyards. Often guests rent the compound for large groups. I can sleep up to ten guests on this property..

There is a central laundry room available for all my guests and on site parking.

Casa Grande is located on a quiet, one block dead end street and is only three blocks from Taos Plaza.

About Melissa /Taos mgr.

I moved to Taos 11 years ago from Marin County California where I was a professional landscaper and raised my three children as a single mom. When they were grown and gone I wanted to move to a more authentic area and chose Taos. I started buying homes and fixing them up and realized I loved doing. I started renting them on VRBO and love everything about it!

Melissa /Taos mgr. purchased this house in 2015

Why Melissa /Taos mgr. chose New Mexico

As they say Location, Location, Location! Three blocks from the Plaza in the Taos Historic District, private walled courtyards and lots of off street parking. Plus I like the challenge of renovating neglected properties and a chance to collect furniture, whimsy and expand my local Taos art collection.

What makes this house unique

Privacy, location and personality. The two small casitas on this property are perfect for one-two guests and this main home Casa Grande sleeps six.

This is such a great home! When I bought this property I called it my "fourplex from Hell". It had been long term rentals for a long time with an out of state owner and very little regard to maintenance. My inspection report was 49 pages! What was I thinking??? It had good bones and was in a great location only three blocks to the Plaza. Each of the four units had private walled courtyards just waiting to be landscaped by me. There was plenty of off street parking and was located on a quiet, one block dead end street. I love renovating neglected properties. In fact I now own ten of them. I have a great crew and a lot of creativity and just have so much fun! Please note that even if my calendar shows this home is booked I have many more

Great property!

  • 4 of 5

Property was great. I was suprised at the final charges but my fault for not reading It carefully.

Directv wasn't working either.

Owner's Response: Yes, the Vrbo service fee is an additional fee guests don't factor in. This is a fee you have to pay if you choose to pay with credit card. After I saw your review about TV I called my Direct TV guy and he said if guests follow written instructions no problem. I will re type it in bigger print so future guests can't miss it.

Owner's Response: S glad you enjoyed my home! I agree that this is a wonderful place! We aren't the only ones either! This home was featured on the 2017 Home and Garden Tour earlier this month and 500+ tour goers loved it too!!! Hard to believe it's only three blocks to the Plaza when it is so quiet and private.

Great attention to detail!

  • 5 of 5

This home was close to town yet far enough that it was peaceful. Melissa has literally stocked the home with all the essentials and then some more. We didn't get a chance to spend too much time on the property but the outside is also very welcoming. There is an area off the master bedroom and another in the front with seating and a grill. Thank you.

Owner's Response: Yes it is hard to believe this home is three blocks to the Plaza. The courtyard walls give privacy and peacefulness. Loved "the essentials and then some" comment. I like to think that if I don't have it, you won't need it. Glad I could direct you right to iron and board in laundry room too. You left the day before this compound of four homes was featured on the Home & Garden Tour where 500 tour goers on Saturday loved what I do. So nice when one of my properties is on the tour folks go home with all kinds of fun ideas for their homes...

Casa Grande - fab!

  • 5 of 5

Great house and location. Very thoughtfully appointed house - from the dog sheets/biscuits, to the hand soap in the bathrooms, to the robes in each room! Tasteful decor, well stocked kitchen (dishes, serve ware, etc). Would definitely stay here again!

Owner's Response: So glad you enjoyed my home. I always say that if I don't have it, you won't need it. I just had a chance to show this home off to 500 tour goers on the annual Taos Home and Garden Tour. Not often do I get to hear so many compliments in one short day. By tour end I had a pretty swollen head and nice so many folks went home with good ideas for their places! Too much fun...

Owner's Response: Hi and thanks for review. It is a great home isn't it? When I bought the compound two years ago I called it "My Fourplex From Hell"! 49 page inspection report and now it will be fearured on the Home and Garden Tour this coming Saturday... I do agree the location is ideal. One block dead end street and high walled courtyard completely isolate you from downtown noise yet three blocks away. Also all my dog owner guests love the courtyards for themselves and their four leeged friends. I like to say that if I don't have it, you won't need it! I have stayed in too many vacation rentals that don't even have salt & pepper! That would not be me. I really enjoyed meeting you ladies and showing you the rest of the compound. You left the house in amazing condition and starting a load of towels was above and beyond. Do come back any time. Melissa
