Vacation Rental/Weekend Getaway/Special Events venue. Newly restored historic home with 2 bedrooms/1bathroom located on the winery circuit and adjacent to South Creek Winery. This home was built in the early 1900's from wood obtained from this tract. The home was first renovated in the 1950's and electrical and indoor plumbing were added. The hardwood flooring throughout the home was also installed at that time. Daniel & Ellen, owners, also worked on the home for several years recently and modernized it to some degree, including the addition of centralized heat and air. Our goal was to add some modern conveniences but wanted to keep it rustic as well. We strived to maintain a balance between the two. You will love it here if you love what we have described. This is one of 3-homes on 100 acres. Short distance to 3 additional wineries and 10-minutes from beautiful Lake James and I-40 and about 35 minutes from eastern part of Asheville. Spectacular views; peaceful country setting; comfortable and roomy. Can also be rented for a wedding or reunion venue. $125/night $650/week $2200/month. This is an ideal home for a couple that wants to get away for a while, or for two couples. No children under 12 and pets on a case by case basis.

About Daniel and Ellen Rowe
We are a fairly typical family in that we like good food, socializing with our friends and family, but we also love to come back to our 100 acres for the privacy and nature, lots of deer. We also enjoy hiking in the great outdoors. Our daughter attends a local University. The home has been in our family since the depression era and has seen many inhabitants. The story has been passed down that Daniel's great-grandmother had to hide the livestock where the original home was located, about 300 yards into the woods, to prevent troops that had arrived in this area during the civil war from taking them. Daniel's great-grandfather was away in the war at that time. One of our elderly neighbors also told us that moonshine was made in the cellar/basement of the home back in the 1930's and 1940's. We want to share the beautiful and historic setting with others who choose to come and stay here. Also, you may even get a free bottle of wine from a local winery if you stay a week!

A really special place!
We had an extended stay here while building our house in Morganton. The house sits on 100 acres in a quiet area of Nebo, and while you feel like you are way out in the country, the interstate is minutes away giving easy access to nearby attractions such as wineries and Lake James. Morganton, with a variety of restaurant options, is about 15 minutes away. There is a 1/2 mile drive from the main road to the house which cuts through two huge fields of the property. A "resident" herd of about 15 deer wander through the fields early morning and in the evening. The owners, Daniel and Ellen, are a wonderful couple who live close by and are responsive to any needs you may have while respecting your privacy. Their number one concern is for you to be comfortable-and you will be! Upon our arrival, we were welcomed with a vase of fresh flowers, chocolates, and a bottle of wine from a nearby winery with a lovely note that included a history of the house. A very nice touch! This is a very charming house. It is rustic, but very nicely appointed with period furniture. We found it to be impeccably clean. The kitchen is rather small but fully equipped and there is a nice dining table and chairs. A new Weber grill is available for use on the front porch. The one bathroom is in the middle of the house and not attached to the bedroom on the main floor, as with most "modern" houses. But, this is not a modern house! The tub/shower has plenty of hot water and a great water pressure. There is one large sink to share. The towels, bed linens and bed covers are quality. There is a laundry room area with a washer and dryer to use, if needed. The house is furnished mostly with lamps that you turn on at the source. One of the charms of this lovely restored home! The bathroom does have a wall switch to turn on a light as you enter and there is also a wall switch for an upstairs hall light. For house "entertainment" the living room is equipped with a flat screen TV with satellite and a DVD player. A ping pong table is upstairs. Our cell phones worked fine. Due to the country location, the internet was occasionally "persnickety", but certainly functional, and Daniel was always just a call away to help with any minor troubleshooting. In summation, we loved staying here (and so did our dog!!!). It is so peaceful and quiet you will feel like you are miles from "everywhere". It is rustic, but very comfortable, and a perfect place to relax. Highly recommended.
Mindy and Tommy are a terrific couple and extremely mannerly, incredibly neat, and a landlord’s dream.
Home is very close to Lake James. The owners are friendly and helpful. We enjoyed the quiet setting and seeing the deer in the evening. Home had everything we needed.
Peace, Beauty, Fun and Wine
The house has a lovely patio overlooking beautiful countryside where one could enjoy wine, tea or coffee, even in the rain. Besides the countryside, deer families often frolicked, it seemed, just for our enjoyment. Beside the beautiful wineries nearby, Lake James was a short drive and a fun place for swimming and boating; it too lives up to its reputation as one of the most beautiful lakes in the US.
The house is cozy and everything works! The family has done a great job. And for the kids there's TV, games and ping-pong!
A terrific couple who left the home in immaculate condition!
A slice of peace and quiet in a busy week
Our stay at this Daniel and Ellen's rental house was exactly what we needed. We were out and about each day exploring and attending meetings in Lenoir, Granite Falls, Morganton and Hickory. The house is close enough to the highway to be convenient, but far enough from the hustle and bustle to soak up the country peace and calm We were greeted coming up the drive by 14 deer, and then at the house by fresh daffodils and a bottle of sparkling wine. This is a historic home, but had no "old house" smell to it, instead it smelled like fresh air and cinnamon.
We specifically wanted to stay somewhere with a kitchen so we could cook some meals to save money, and the kitchen worked perfect for us. Full set of dishes and pots and pans, full size stove/oven and a modern fridge. The one bathroom had great water pressure and the water was nice and hot. Towels were nice and thick and soft. We also had very good cell reception (Verizon). We did have some internet connection issues, by Daniel immediately worked on correcting that and had the provider on property the next day.
The couch was comfortable and the ping pong table was great fun. We even got to try out the hammock briefly :-). We saw deer each morning and several evenings. The owners have many night lights about the home making it easier to navigate at night, though the staircase, being older, is a bit narrow. The floors also show their historical roots and are just a bit uneven.... could be an issue for someone whose balance is compromised. The many historic decorations make me wish we'd had time to sit down with Daniel and hear all the stories. We also wish we'd had more time to explore out Asheville way.
For dry red wine drinkers we highly recommend the neighboring South Creek winery and their Maestro red blend. Silver Fork, which is close by, was also good and Lake James Cellars has a real nice selection.
Gracious hosts, Quaint house
We were planning a visit to the Lake James area of NC and found this place on VRBO. The price was right and it looked inviting so we booked 3 nights. The house sits up on a hill with a long winding driveway. We were greeted by the owner, Daniel. The house is an older home. Reminds us of an old farm house with wood floors and antique furnishings. The kitchen is small but functional. Same for the bathroom. Don't look for cable TV but who needs that when you can sit back and read a book or have a conversation with your mate or family. We stayed in the downstairs bedroom and the bed was very comfortable but if you're over 6 ft. tall, you might want to use the upstairs bedroom. I should point out that the host live next doors and have two wonderful dogs, Lizzie and Pony. Very friendly older dogs. We had to cut our stay short and they were very accommodating when our plans changed. Their location was central to our needs and we will be staying there in the near future!
The host are very friendly and helpful. This area is very quiet and peaceful. I would rent this Farmhouse again.
Thank you Ellen and Daniel for the stay.
Whether you are looking for a peaceful get-away from life's fast-track, or boating/swimming and other lake activities, or hiking and sightseeing, or visiting wineries.....we are a good choice for your comfortable accommodations.
