About Clare & Andy Carby
Andy has Scottish roots and I, Welsh, but we now live in Sainte-Enimie in France, and love living here more each and every day. The French way of life, it's food, culture and maybe the odd glass of wine :0) all resonate with the two of us and we both feel more at home here than we ever did in the UK. Come and see - I'm sure you'll agree!
Clare & Andy Carby purchased this House in 2017
Why Clare & Andy Carby chose Sainte-Enimie
My husband Andy has holidayed in the Gorges du Tarn for around 12 years and, after we married in January 2016, he brought me here in June of the same year. I fell in love with Sainte-Enimie immediately and on our second evening here, over a glass of wine, we decided that we should have a ten year plan to live here. The next night, over another glass of wine, we came up with our wish list; by the river, woodland (Andy is an apologist and has a masters degree in Agroforestry,) and space to grow our own food and be as self sufficient as possible. Our wish list felt like an impossible dream! The next day we thought we'd take a look at property prices just to help set our expectations - and we saw a listing that ticked all of our boxes - and we could afford it if we sold up in the UK. To cut a long story short - the day that we viewed Malagratte we put an offer in, called the UK and put our property and our holiday let business property on the market and that was that! We viewed the property on 3rd July and moved in on 8th December! It's a lot of work for us living here - the land has been kept tidy but has been 'unloved' for what we think may be decades. Horses had been kept on the land to keep the grass down for several years and whilst they did their job, they compacted the ground and ate everything. Already, from the horses being removed in late 2016 the land is absolutely covered in primroses, wild daffodils, wood anemones, wild tulips and many other flowers... Sainte Enimie (recognised as one of 'Les Plus Beaux Villages de France) is just 2km away and for a small town has a great choice of bars and restaurants. We love our little piece of paradise more every day and we are sure that you will love it too.
What makes this House unique
Our land runs for around 350 meters along the side of the River Tarn, which you can see from the holiday home and can often hear babbling its way through the gorge. The only people you see/hear are those paddling along the river in canoes, in winter the tranquility is even more incredible. We have recorded numerous sightings of birds/animals including; peregrine falcons, kingfishers, roe deer, wild boar, beavers, badgers, otters and more...

A Little Gem
From the minute we arrived we felt relaxed, comfortable and welcomed. Clare and Andy are very knowledgable about the Cevennes and care very much about the environment they look after which is what makes this place part of the cevennes and not just somewhere in the cevennes. The gite was cute and perfectly formed, the location is absolutely beautiful having its own private beach, pretty river and stunning backdrop. We spent a lot of time just sitting on the patio listening and watching all the wildlife, we were in heaven. Just 2km away is Saint Enimie, a really pretty medieval village full of character and many shops and restaurants. The Gorge du Tarn is just stunning and we absolutely loved it. We will definitely return in the not too distant future.
