Good location; accommodating owner; well-equiped unit

  • 5 of 5

Trastevere is a choice location. It has many cafes and restaurants and enjoys an active nightlife, particularly with young people. It is quite accessible by foot or by cab to traditional Roman sights. I highly recommend the area as a place to stay. The apartment itself is more than adequate in terms of space and equipment. Living room lighting was fine to read by; the beds were firm and well suited for sleeping; the kitchen provided all pots, utensils, and cutlery one needs for cooking.

We had two issues arise during our stay---we lost hot water one day and at about the same time we lost our internet connections. The owner quickly responded to my call for assistance. Hot water was restored and the owner installed a temporary router that again allowed internet access. I appreciated the speed of the response. Incidentally, the owner thought the loss of hot water could be attributed to someone messing with the apartment's thermostat---a happenstance I tend to doubt as none of the four of us staying there acknowledged ever touching the thermostat. Since the owner quickly caused hot water to be restored, I see no need to pinpoint responsibility. The loss of internet service was due to an area wide loss of telephone services. The owner's quick fix through a temporary router was great.

When I first met up with the owner, he showed me the circuit breaker for his apartment, telling me that, if we lost power during our occupancy, we should quickly go to the circuit breaker in the entry way to the building on the first floor and reset it. Realizing that it might be pitch dark when power failed, I was grateful I packed a flashlight for this trip. So, as a precaution for others who might rent this space, be sure to pack a flashlight. Incidentally, we never lost power.

The television set is surprisingly daunting. It works off two remotes, each with its own idiosyncrasies. Again as a word of advice, take enough time with the owner at the outset of the occupancy to commit to memory each and every step needed to utilize the TV equipment ably.

The internet services rely on two routers---one for the kitchen area and the other for the living room. I myself was not troubled by these logistics as I had an Italian Sim card for my smartphone which allowed me to disregard the wi-fi. My traveling companions, however, were dependent on the wi-fi, and they reported some inconsistency in service depending on their location within the apartment.

Beautiful Apartment in the Heart of Trastevere

  • 5 of 5

The apartment is located in the heart of Trastevere - a very vibrant dining and nightlife area. Each room is air conditioned, which made our four days very comfortable as temperatures were over 95F. Unfornutately because of the heat we did not use the beautiful patio. The kitchen/dining area was a great area to sit and talk in lieu of the patio.

The bedroom on the street side and the living room do get noisy starting around 11. The inner bedroom was quite quiet.

There are probably 50 restuartants within a 5 minute walk and a couple of grocery stores. Tram Line 8 is at the end of the street, taxis were everywhere, most attractions were within a 30 minutes walk - the apartment is very convenient.

Charming, but Lively

  • 4 of 5

We spent the Christmas/New Years holiday here. It is a lovely apartment in a central location. No car needed. The landlord is friendly and responsive. The only negative is the street noise - Trastevere is very lively into the wee hours. The front (master) bedroom and living room are noisy. The second bedroom and kitchen are in the back of the house. The building itself is very quiet, it's just street noise. I would imagine this could be a problem anywhere in the neighborhood - but it's a great area!

In the middle of the action in Trastevere

  • 4 of 5

Great apartment with lots of room for a family. We enjoyed being close to the restaurants and historic sites of Trastevere and also being near ancient Rome and the many sites across the river. It was also close to the Vatican for our trip to see the Pope and Holy Door. We didn't get a chance to use the patio but if we had more time it would be a great place to relax. Other reviews had cited the noise from the street outside one of the bedrooms and did find it could be excessive at times. We used ear plugs to handle the noise and felt that the location and amenities of the apartment outweighed the noise. The bathroom setup is difficult to use. The toilet sits on a raised platform which is dangerous in the dark. My wife fell at night and was lucky to avoid serious injury.

  • 5 of 5

Spacious apartment, with a large living room, a well-equipped kitchen and a very courteous, helpful owner! The location is great for walking and proximity to good restaurants. The apartment is located is a very lively area, very close to the Piazza Trilussa. We had a wonderful time and were so sorry to have to leave when our 4-day stay was up. Highly recommended!
