About Tammy and Sam

Please allow us to introduce ourselves. We are Sam and Tammy ; We ourselves were once visitors to The Great Smoky Mountains. Sam is a native Swiss/German and had always the idea to offer and operate a “back to the basics” or Vacation retreat “holiday on a family owned and operated Farm”. We traveled all over the US to see where we want to settle. It took only one visit to realize that this is where we wanted to live, work and raise our children. We went back and forward , sold our home/company and moved to what we think is a most extraordinary place.

We are extremely proud to own and operate Stuetz Mountain Retreat, where you will receive top notch personal attention to make your stay a memorable one.

We are the Property manager of this unique "Black Bear Loft" Cabin.

Tammy and Sam purchased this cabin in 2005

  • 5 of 5

I loved the cabin it was beautiful the inside was so clean and nice actual dishes and cooking tools down to paper towels and even a washer and dryer. The owner was super sweet can’t wait to deal with her again. It was me and my girlfriend 4 year anniversary and I wouldn’t of went anywhere else

Lovely views

  • 4 of 5

We really enjoyed our stay, but the cabin could use a few upgrades such as the couch and the carpet area coming from the kitchen needs a little repair. The oven needed a little more cleaning . The views were great but the roads getting to the cabin were a little rough. Overall we enjoyed the time that we were allowed to bond as a family and get away from it all.

Cabin needs some TLC

  • 2 of 5

Honestly the reviews lead us to believe this was going to be a spectacular cabin. It was not as we wanted to end our 25 th wedding anniversary vacation here renting it for one night. The carpet is in desperate need of cleaning or being replaced. The majority of the light bulbs outside were burnt out, there were torches to burn but no oil nor were we told to furnish this. The couch is extremely broken down and the grill was filthy. Could have been a good experience with some additional care taken on those details. Also, I would encourage notating you really need a vehicle that is fairly rugged as it very deep in the woods with many gravel roads leading to it that are deeply rutted.

We would definitely stay here at this lovely HUGE cabin again. Close to all the local things to see and do, but far enough away for peace and quiet. It was about 25 minutes to downtown Gaitlinburg and National Park entrance. Cosby and Greenbrier park entrances were about 15 minutes and were wonderful. So much to do within a short drive! This cabin was fully stocked with all necessities, such as towels, toilet paper, cooking supplies and washer and dryer. Everything was clean and neat. No complaints here. There is a cute swimming pond with paddle boat located at the bottom of the hill, too. The outdoor area was great with the BIG fire pit, chairs, hammock and covered porch with grill. Thanks for the wonderful stay and quick response.

Awesome little cabin with a terrific view!

  • 5 of 5

Cabin is in a very nice spot with an excellent view. Conveniently located for my small family to enjoy the area as you can be in any number of local cities and attractions in just over an hour from the cabin. Clean with all amenities provided. The Buddhist Temple (no kidding) on the mountain just above the cabin is really cool too. To top it all off, you have Tammy who will take great care of you and your guests if you need anything at all. Highly recommended for a great and economical retreat.
