Overview

About the property

Restored, 1850 stone/stucco house nestled in a beautiful valley sits on 30 acre

In 1848 Swiss immigrants purchased land in this picturesque valley and built their farmhouse out of native rubble stone and stucco. Now fully restored, the house sits on a unique property, nestled in a valley. Walk the mowed trails on the property to the top of the hill behind the house to see 200-300 year old oak trees and restored grass and wildflower prairies.

The house sleeps up to six people: Second floor with 3 bedrooms, one with a king bed and TV, one with a queen bed and extra tall twin, and one small bedroom with a single twin bed. Full bathroom on second floor has shower, soaking tub and laundry.

First floor has a living room/dining room combination with large TV, a front sitting room with gas stove, a half bathroom and a kitchen with full size refrigerator and gas range. Kitchen is fully stocked with cooking and baking utensils. But be prepared to wash dishes as we do not have a dishwasher!

Ground level basement room can be used to safely lock up bicycles or to put down a yoga mat or two.

Patio has dining table and chairs, gas grill and gas fire table. Mowed trails go through the property to highlight prairie sections and old growth oak trees. Birds are plentiful and the scenery is pure Wisconsin farmland and oak savanna prairie.

In addition we own PrairieSun Stables on the adjoining property. E-mail us to learn more about boarding opportunities if you want to bring horses along. However we do not offer trail rides to the public.

Staying here is the best of both worlds, you will be part of nature yet minutes away from historic New Glarus, WI (www.swisstown.com), the Sugar River bike trail, New Glarus Brewery and so much more!

About Patricia Klossner

The Old Oak Stone House was the original farm house for the property that we have lived on for the past 14 years. The old house hadn't been lived in for over 20 years and we passed it every day dreaming of some day being able to make it our own and fix it up. In December 2014 we got our chance and purchased the old home and property in January 2015. Since then it has been our passion to restore this amazing home and property. We can't wait for you to enjoy it as well!

Patricia Klossner purchased this farmhouse in 2015

Beautiful property and lovely cows across the way!

  • 5 of 5

We thoroughly enjoyed the scenery, including the cows and lightening bugs! Just a short distance to town. We loved the store Hutch and Hide! The owner was fantastic. The local coffee shop Fat Cat had great coffee and food! Quince and and Cow was delicious and fun. The brewery was a must see. I cannot recommend this home and location enough! Far enough out for peace and quiet, but minutes from town!

This was the perfect spot to enjoy nature, relaxing, comfortable

  • 5 of 5

The property was so well detailed. Decorated in a quaint and elegant way. The prairie paths to walk were delightful and we so enjoyed hiking to the rise our last evening to watch the sunset.

Absolutely beautiful property

  • 5 of 5

This house is comfortable, spacious, and GORGEOUS! We felt very at home here, and we especially enjoyed walking the trails around the property. I would love to stay here again in different seasons, to enjoy the fall and winter landscapes.

Hidden gem!

  • 5 of 5

This property had plenty of space both indoors and outdoors for the 4 of us to enjoy peaceful time separately or congregate to plan our day. The house is very thoughtfully decorated and equipped beyond any expectations. We can't say enough about how clean and well cared for the entire property is. This was a very pleasant first time VRBO experience for 2 of the 4 of us.

Wonderful home!

  • 5 of 5

We loved the home and the quiet, peaceful setting. The home was very clean and comfortable. It is very nicely decorated and there are many personal touches. We visited the nearby town- there were great places to eat and tour. We enjoyed riding bikes, walking the trails, picking wild black raspberries, and watching the cows as we drank coffee in the mornings. We had a very nice time!

Wonderful house in beautiful location

  • 5 of 5

We loved our weekend at this beautiful house in a valley southwest of New Glarus. Pat and her daughter were great hosts. Ideal for a weekend getaway.

Be sure to explore the trail up the hill and along the large property. It provides some great views of the area and lots of wildflowers.
