In 1848 Swiss immigrants purchased land in this picturesque valley and built their farmhouse out of native rubble stone and stucco. Now fully restored, the house sits on a unique property, nestled in a valley. Walk the mowed trails on the property to the top of the hill behind the house to see 200-300 year old oak trees and restored grass and wildflower prairies.
The house sleeps up to six people: Second floor with 3 bedrooms, one with a king bed and TV, one with a queen bed and extra tall twin, and one small bedroom with a single twin bed. Full bathroom on second floor has shower, soaking tub and laundry.
First floor has a living room/dining room combination with large TV, a front sitting room with gas stove, a half bathroom and a kitchen with full size refrigerator and gas range. Kitchen is fully stocked with cooking and baking utensils. But be prepared to wash dishes as we do not have a dishwasher!
Ground level basement room can be used to safely lock up bicycles or to put down a yoga mat or two.
Patio has dining table and chairs, gas grill and gas fire table. Mowed trails go through the property to highlight prairie sections and old growth oak trees. Birds are plentiful and the scenery is pure Wisconsin farmland and oak savanna prairie.
In addition we own PrairieSun Stables on the adjoining property. E-mail us to learn more about boarding opportunities if you want to bring horses along. However we do not offer trail rides to the public.
Staying here is the best of both worlds, you will be part of nature yet minutes away from historic New Glarus, WI (www.swisstown.com), the Sugar River bike trail, New Glarus Brewery and so much more!
