Added to all the great things the cabin will give you our location makes the outdoors possible with activities like mountain climbing, fishing (Ranch has private lake for your use.), rafting, off road riding, biking, hiking, horseback riding, skiing, snowshoeing and literally dozens of other activities possible! Cabins location gets you Buena Vista (35min/22mi) Some of the Best White Water Rafting that exists with more outfitters and tours than you could ever use. Fairplay (35min/30mi) To the Famous South Park and Old Town. Salida (60min/44mi) Downtown is a great experience and you always get great views of the Kayak course that goes right through it. Breckenridge (60min/52mi) One of the classic Colorado Destinations. Colorado Springs (90min/75mi) Everything you could possibly need for shopping or other needs. All of these great locations and more then a quick and easy trip back to the cabin.

Spending the day relaxing after big adventures is also VERY possible with the cabin. It sits on top of a 2.5 acre hill over half of which is covered with a beautiful Aspen Grove. A heard of deer has made its home in the grove. They run in a pattern from the grove in the morning down the hill. In the afternoon they come back up the hill in front of the house and you can just sit and watch the whole herd, Fawns included, as they graze slowly just feet from the cabin. Want to take a few minute trip you get options like the covered picnic area less than a mile down the road. With a large dog run attached to it you can have relaxing events that even the furry members of the family get to enjoy.

The pictures show the 15' high glass prow that offers amazing views of some of Colorado’s most impressive peaks. The Great Room and all of its offshoots walls and the ceiling are covered in real Knotty Pine. Put that together with the hardwood floors, custom stone fireplace, 15' glass prow and the cabin gives you rustic peace and allows you to recharge the batteries for the next big adventure. Also remember there is NO chance that you won't see a beautiful sunset on the Western Peaks every single afternoon from the great room or the deck at the front of the house.

About Jerrie Shufelt

Originally from Alabama but have now been in Colorado for almost 40 years. Retired and move all around visiting family and friends but still love that cabin on the hill.

Jerrie Shufelt purchased this house in 1996

Why Jerrie Shufelt chose Hartsel

A beautiful piece of land to build a mountain cabin on. So the land was purchased over 13 years ago and the house was built just 7 years ago with every single item being hand picked and designed by me and my husband.

What makes this house unique

Standing on the deck in the morning with a cup of coffee or juice and watching the light hit the faces of all the Western mountains.

Walking through the Aspen Grove listening to the rustling of the leaves and the amazing sweet smell of the grove.

While on your walk in the Aspens its normal for you to have to freeze and stand still and quite so you can watch the local deer herd that have made our Aspen grove their home. They start coming out from underneath the pines, that litter the grove, to make their morning move. Us and all of the other locals have always treated them well so If your quite and still they will just look at you and continue on their routine like your just another tree in the grove.

Sitting in the Great Room watching the flickering flames in the fireplace built of the custom stone that we personally selected.

And most of all watching those beautiful sunsets. It is no accident the the prow of the house faces the west allowing you to see those sunsets clearly everyday. Now you get to enjoy our careful planning and see them for yourself. Hold that special persons hand as you both watch the sun turn into a million different colors as it slides along the Western Range. The sun and the colors will start at the left side of the deck and finally go behind the last peak on the decks right side. That sunset will bring anyone that is close closer and has even gotten some close that didn't start out that way when they first walked out to the deck to JUST watch the sunset ;)

Comfortable home with views that stretch on forever!

  • 4 of 5

We found the home stocked well with everything you would need! We had an abundance of fireplace supplies, games, and all the amenities of Dish. Our dog was welcomed and enjoyed the space as well. I would recommend that if you are a Verizone customer get the lockbox code off your phone before you get to the house. Jerrie was easy to work with and addressed our only issue quickly. We did notice while walking the property evidence of large dogs present prior to our stay. My son enjoyed playing and building with fallen branches all over the place.

The property is well maintained. We enjoyed the view from the living room! The property is relatively secluded which was what we were looking for.

Nearly perfect

  • 4 of 5

Nearly perfect. Of the 3 numbers in the street address, one was missing, one was dangling upside down. We weren’t sure we were pulling into the right place. Otherwise this hillside home has beautiful views, inside is spotlessly clean, every appliance you can think of, gorgeous fireplace and a jetted tub. Loved every minute.
