This converted gate lodge offers single-storey accomodation, complete with an open fire.. "Acres of peaceful and secluded countryside surround these magnificent cottages..."

At the heart of Glenprosen, one of the renowned ‘Glens of Angus’, lies the Balnaboth Estate on the edge of the Cairngorms National Park; 6,000 peaceful and secluded acres surrounding 16th-century Balnaboth House. In its midst, these six characterful holiday cottages each offer a unique and magical holiday retreat; indeed the creator of Peter Pan himself (Sir James Barrie) was born in nearby Kirriemuir and holidayed here.

These cottages were once occupied by shepherds, gardeners or other staff of the Ogilvy family when this was a traditional Victorian sporting estate. Red squirrels play in the trees, otters frequent the burns, and deer graze all around. Because of the varied scenery, that varies from beech woods to forest, pasture to heather moor, mountain streams to river pools, the area enjoys a spectacular range of wildlife, including species largely extinct elsewhere in Britain, such as black game and ptarmigan.
Magnificent walking, bird-watching, mountain biking and (in season) cross-country skiing abound on the estate and, further afield, downhill skiing at Glen Shee (25 miles). Fishing is available on a 5-mile stretch of the River Prosen, and there are twenty golf courses within an hours’ drive.
Enjoy the seclusion of this beautiful glen - peaceful, relaxing, scenic - yet just a few minutes’ drive from bustling market towns and busy fishing harbours which hug the Angus coastline, as well as from the city of Dundee which offers many attractions for all the family. The exciting Dundee Contemporary Arts is a stunningly-designed centre which incorporates galleries, a print studio and two art-cinema screens, while the Mills Observatory is Britain’s only full-time public observatory with a resident astronomer.

Overall the cottage is well presented and clean though certain items are showing signs of age and use. Due to COVID 19 the keys were left in the door for our arrival and most equipment in the cottage were self explanatory however a label on the water heater would be an idea. Just a couple of niggling points the shower seat came away from the wall but the handy man acted promptly to rectify the issue and as the cottage is designed to be accessible the loose rugs could be a trip hazard and we had to lift them for piece of mind. If you are looking to recharge yourself with stunning views and more wildlife than your senses can handle then this is the place for you. If you want tech and fast living look elsewhere. We loved it! Very quiet and relaxing break in beautiful surroundings.

Very quiet and relaxing break in beautiful surroundings. The cottage is homely and comfortable enough, despite being fairly basic. There is much to be said for the quietness, with no Wifi, no TV, no 4G reception in the Glen itself. Don't depend too much on the DVD player- it is rather outdated, very small, and the remote control does not work. Left a note for the maintenance about a few other small issues as well. Having said this, the cottage is user-friendly for less abled people, and well-situated for great walks and drives. We would go again.

Very comfortable beds and pillows.

Very comfortable beds and pillows. Ideal for my husband who has mobility problems, the walk-in shower with grab rails was excellent. Lovely walks nearby, very peaceful only the sound of sheep, birds and the river.

This cottage is for those who love nature with no modern tech such as wi fi broadband or mobile phone signals it is a true escape from the modern world. You rise in the morning open the door and listen to the wild life singing there different tunes the sound of the river tumbling its way down its course. The drive up the glen to reach there is beautiful and sets you up for your stay.
