Gorgeous New Mexico House on Stunning 22 Acre Ranch. Wonderful for 2 - 13 people
This is a gorgeous New Mexico house perched above a bend in the Chama river on a stunning 22 acre ranch in the heart of Georgia O'Keefe country. It is a magical spot for 2 to 13, equally as special for gatherings and events as it is for peaceful retreat. The house marries old New Mexico charm -- deep set windows, kiva fireplaces, antique and tribal furnishings, and original art work -- with modern comforts and conveniences throughout. The spacious main section of the house includes three guest bedrooms, each with a private bathroom; a large living room, dining room, and sunroom; a well stocked kitchen with an adjoining game area; and a laundry/mud room (not shown in photos). The main section of the house accommodates 2 to 6 people, up to 7 when the small, pull out sofa bed is used. (Upon request, two king size beds in the house can be converted to 4 single beds.)
A second section of the house -- with two additional bedrooms, a large shared bathroom, and a sitting area with a pullout, queen size sofa bed -- can be added to the booking. With the optional second section, the house accommodates 10 people, and with the sofa beds, up to 13 people in total. (The fee for the second section is $140 - $175 per night depending on the season).
The house's deep walls, ceiling fans and cool Abiquiu nights make for lovely sleeping temperatures during summer months. During the winter, radiant floor heat and several fire places keep the house an equally lovely temperature.
The garden area adjacent to the house includes a barbecue, smoker, outdoor fire pit, lawn furniture, and seasonal grape arbor, herb and flower gardens, and fruit trees. The property features an old growth cottonwood grove, beautiful river and mountain views, and direct river access.
The barn, outbuildings, corrals, and pasture areas are not included with the house rental.
Special gatherings and events are welcome, including wedding receptions, family reunions, and retreats. Additional fees may apply.
Longer stays with reduced rates are also possible. Please enquire with us directly to work out your details.
Dogs and horses are welcome, but only with advance approval. Additional fees apply. Please enquire.
Ranch Animals: Pepe, our burro, Rosy, our pony, and Paddy and Black Berry, two rescue horses, live in the barn along with Noche and Dia, our barn cats. Our animals are friendly, however use of the barn and access to the animals is off limits to guests for safety reasons.
River Access: guests are welcome to visit and play in the river from the property, however you do so at your own risk. Currents can be strong and we cannot vouch for the safety of playing in the river.
Wildlife: different kinds of animals (including coyotes), species of birds, reptiles (including rattle snakes) and insects live in abundance in this part of the world. There is exceptional natural beauty to be found here, both on the property and in nearby areas, but exploring the outdoor areas here is best suited for people who are comfortable with and love nature in all its manifestations.

Great house. Nice and quiet
Gorgeous New Mexico Retreat
Communication with the property managers was fast and effortless; they made us feel very welcome. The house and property were beautiful and peaceful. Perfect for a group gathering with a well-appointed kitchen and plenty of places for memories, from games in the living room to meals at the large dining table to singing around the piano and chatting around a fire on the back patio. It's a great base to explore hiking at Plaza Blanco and Ghost Ranch, art and food in Taos, the springs at Ojo Caliente, and the Rio Grande Gorge. Highly recommended!
Well-equipped and extremely comfortable house, gorgeous grounds, and amazing views.
Communication with the owner and caretaker was pleasant and easy. Would definitely stay here again.
We've always had good luck booking through VRBO, yet we always worry a little that the property may not be as stated, or that the photos are misleading. That is definitely not the case here, it exceeds every promise made in the listing. Everything is as stated on the page, and even better. The photos are 100% accurate. The property is beautiful and quiet, and it is rare when you hear any traffic at all. The furnishings are great and the kitchen well-equipped.
The owners are pleasant, helpful, and respond quickly to any questions or concerns.
This is a fantastic place for a family gathering, we used it for a 90th birthday party. We had from 5 to 12 people spending the night, and it easily handled the 12. We had about 20 for the party, and plenty of room for all. Besides all the huge indoor spaces, we counted seven different outdoor seating areas for small groups to escape the crowd.
As mentioned above, the general store is very close, as is the amazing Plaza Blanca area, a must see.
We would recommend this property to others without hesitation.
Wonderful! Everything you dream about northern New Mexico.
We just returned from an amazing weekend at Casa El Rito! We visited over Labor Day weekend with three families, and a kids ranging from 11 years to 2 years. All had so much fun! Parents could visit and cook, while kids could roam the ranch in sight. Kids loved the horses, donkey and sheep, trips to the river on the property and playing on the swing. Adults loved the beautiful home, views, entertaining kitchen, comfy rooms and easy access to Abiquiu Lake and Bode's. Home, gardens and grounds are well kept and lovely. Owners were wonderful - quick responses, welcoming and very helpful. Hope to visit again soon!
Fantastic Property, impeccable house.
We had an amazing visit to your property and look fwd to coming again next year if not before. Highly recommended.
