Great family home
We spent a week here in Kona with my husband, 2 kids (6 & 8), my parents, my aunty, uncle and cousin for my dads 60th birthday. The house was perfect for us all.
The kids loved the pool. We loved laying by the pool on the lounges and cooking on the bbq. We ate dinner most nights out on the balcony which was lovely. Beds were so comfy. Everything that we needed away from home was there.
House was clean, spacious and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay.
Thanks for having us Zac!
Layout of home was great for our group of 4couples. Many shortfalls in overall upkeep of the house,
LOUD dishwasher and the hinge was broken on its door, no range fan, water filter in fridge needed replacing, garbage not picked up for 13 days, stained carpets, one torn screen going out to the main deck. One bathroom sink was clogged and 2 of the tubs couldn’t be used because there was no stopper. Toilet seat in downstairs bathroom broken! We felt that feces from geckos hadn’t been adequately cleaned especially in the bathroom of the rec room. Mice were a bit of a problem while we were there— even though an exterminator was called. The kitchen cabinets could have used s GOOD wash down.Having said all of the negatives, the location was great and it was wonderful to enjoy the spacious lanai! We all wished the place was given a bit more TLC and had been told that the only way in to the front door was up MANY steps, not very accessible for any people with mobility challenges.
The house was amazing! Plenty of room for all 10 of us. Fabulous ocean/sunset views!
We spent a thanksgiving with our whole family in paradise. The house met all our expectations. Relaxing decor, well equipped kitchen, plenty of space for all, beautiful pool and huge decks/lanai. The nearby beach was terrific for boogie boards! Grandsons, 13 and 16 went everyday. Old granny got rolled a little by the waves, but still had a blast!
Wish we could have stayed longer!
We have used VRBO probably 20 times. From Honolulu, Alaska, Colorado, Florida, South Carolina, Key West and many other locations, dealing directly with owners has been a positive experience! We have never been disappointed!
Plusses and minuses...
This is clearly a “rental” house--I say that for clarity not in a positive or negative way. We stayed here for two weeks, July 17-31, 2017. There were 10 in our group, ages 70 to 2. There are definitely pluses and minuses, many of which have been enumerated—but I’ll do it for us. It is impossible to understand the layout of the house from the website. The “first” floor is a two-car garage with pool toys/etc. Through the garage is the in-law suite—very removed from the rest of the house. The “second” floor, up many steps, is the pool level, main living, ping pong room, and three bedrooms. The “third” floor has a “master” bedroom—open to the second floor--with larger bath and small balcony.
Great pool…but no shallow end…only the steps for non-swimmers.
Each bedroom has its own bath, good mattresses, room size, AC and ceiling fan
Pool/beach toys, some very old games (1990’s Trivial Pursuit), nice pool lounge chairs/landscape and privacy from neighbors. Basement has high chair and a crib not put together…which we did not know…and don’t know if it is useable.
Enough dishes/glasses/flatware for 10 people, dry staples left in the pantry and cupboard
2 refrigerators…you can use the one in the in-law suite—and that stove has numbers and info on its dials
WIFI—but best in the LR—spotty other parts of the house.
There is NO central AC and the main living area in the afternoon through evening is VERY hot…even with movement of fans to gain maximum cooling. Cooking only heats the place even more, which is a double whammy because we rented a house so we could cook for 10 rather than eat every meal “out.” Also, with all the fans going—even on the front balcony (not connected to the pool)…it wasn’t always easy to hear conversations…and, yes, my hearing is fine Make sure you “rest” your cursor on the “…” after items in the amenities lists.
The kitchen…where to begin. The sky light is like a furnace heating the main living area continually. The stove has no numbers on its dials, the dish washer, LOUD!!, needs the dishes cleaned prior to washing them, the ice maker (nice!) is painfully slow so ice cube trays and bags of ice are required.
“Little” annoying things…the “circular” shower, where, if you stand in the middle the water will not touch you; some windows did not have curtains in bathrooms/bedrooms; unless the glass sliding doors are locked, there is is no way to insure little ones cannot open a door and get to the pool—maybe not such a “little”
Big Island Adventure
My family and I rented this property on the Big Island for 10 days. The owner, Zac, was attentive and prompt during the entire process. We did not encounter any issues during our vacation.
- Location, Location, Location - short walk to a swimming/surfing beach and to the shops in Kona. You will need to drive to the closest snorkeling beach.
- The house was spacious for 9 people, we all had our own bedroom/bathroom.
- The neighborhood was very quiet
- The pool was clean and refreshing after a long day of site seeing
- The outdoor patios were wonderful and we used them all of the time
- The house needs some TLC
- The carpets need to be replaced (had stains and holes)
- The kitchen and bathrooms need to be updated (they were outdated, tile was cracked and mold growing in between the grout)
- Some of the screen doors had tears or holes (enough for bugs to come inside the house)
- The downstairs apartment (5th bedroom) smelled musty
- It would have been nice if all of the bedrooms had TV's
- The walls need a fresh coat of paint
All in all, we had a wonderful time on the Big Island and there's so much to do we didn't spend a ton of time in the house. I would have given the house higher reviews if it was in a better condition.
Beautiful house! Amazing location!
Overall we had a great stay. The house is beautiful, was clean and well appointed. It is also in a great location: close to beaches, close to shopping, close to town and easy to get to other places on the island. The layout was perfect for our group; we loved how much room there was and that every room had its own bathroom! We loved having the pool as well. We also appreciated all of the pool toys, beach toys, beach accessories and other touches that made our stay comfortable and fun. The only complaint we had was having to buy our own dishwasher soap, more toilet paper and laundry soap. But otherwise it was a great experience and we would completely come back. I also want to add that Zach was super responsive to our questions and made the booking process easy and stress free. Thank you, Zach!
