Plusses and minuses...

  • 3 of 5

This is clearly a “rental” house--I say that for clarity not in a positive or negative way. We stayed here for two weeks, July 17-31, 2017. There were 10 in our group, ages 70 to 2. There are definitely pluses and minuses, many of which have been enumerated—but I’ll do it for us. It is impossible to understand the layout of the house from the website. The “first” floor is a two-car garage with pool toys/etc. Through the garage is the in-law suite—very removed from the rest of the house. The “second” floor, up many steps, is the pool level, main living, ping pong room, and three bedrooms. The “third” floor has a “master” bedroom—open to the second floor--with larger bath and small balcony.

Great pool…but no shallow end…only the steps for non-swimmers.

Each bedroom has its own bath, good mattresses, room size, AC and ceiling fan

Pool/beach toys, some very old games (1990’s Trivial Pursuit), nice pool lounge chairs/landscape and privacy from neighbors. Basement has high chair and a crib not put together…which we did not know…and don’t know if it is useable.

Enough dishes/glasses/flatware for 10 people, dry staples left in the pantry and cupboard

2 refrigerators…you can use the one in the in-law suite—and that stove has numbers and info on its dials

WIFI—but best in the LR—spotty other parts of the house.

There is NO central AC and the main living area in the afternoon through evening is VERY hot…even with movement of fans to gain maximum cooling. Cooking only heats the place even more, which is a double whammy because we rented a house so we could cook for 10 rather than eat every meal “out.” Also, with all the fans going—even on the front balcony (not connected to the pool)…it wasn’t always easy to hear conversations…and, yes, my hearing is fine  Make sure you “rest” your cursor on the “…” after items in the amenities lists.

The kitchen…where to begin. The sky light is like a furnace heating the main living area continually. The stove has no numbers on its dials, the dish washer, LOUD!!, needs the dishes cleaned prior to washing them, the ice maker (nice!) is painfully slow so ice cube trays and bags of ice are required.

“Little” annoying things…the “circular” shower, where, if you stand in the middle the water will not touch you; some windows did not have curtains in bathrooms/bedrooms; unless the glass sliding doors are locked, there is is no way to insure little ones cannot open a door and get to the pool—maybe not such a “little”

Big Island Adventure

  • 3 of 5

My family and I rented this property on the Big Island for 10 days. The owner, Zac, was attentive and prompt during the entire process. We did not encounter any issues during our vacation.

- Location, Location, Location - short walk to a swimming/surfing beach and to the shops in Kona. You will need to drive to the closest snorkeling beach.

- The house was spacious for 9 people, we all had our own bedroom/bathroom.

- The neighborhood was very quiet

- The pool was clean and refreshing after a long day of site seeing

- The outdoor patios were wonderful and we used them all of the time

- The house needs some TLC

- The carpets need to be replaced (had stains and holes)

- The kitchen and bathrooms need to be updated (they were outdated, tile was cracked and mold growing in between the grout)

- Some of the screen doors had tears or holes (enough for bugs to come inside the house)

- The downstairs apartment (5th bedroom) smelled musty

- It would have been nice if all of the bedrooms had TV's

- The walls need a fresh coat of paint

All in all, we had a wonderful time on the Big Island and there's so much to do we didn't spend a ton of time in the house. I would have given the house higher reviews if it was in a better condition.

Beautiful house! Amazing location!

  • 5 of 5

Overall we had a great stay. The house is beautiful, was clean and well appointed. It is also in a great location: close to beaches, close to shopping, close to town and easy to get to other places on the island. The layout was perfect for our group; we loved how much room there was and that every room had its own bathroom! We loved having the pool as well. We also appreciated all of the pool toys, beach toys, beach accessories and other touches that made our stay comfortable and fun. The only complaint we had was having to buy our own dishwasher soap, more toilet paper and laundry soap. But otherwise it was a great experience and we would completely come back. I also want to add that Zach was super responsive to our questions and made the booking process easy and stress free. Thank you, Zach!

Enjoyed our stay

  • 5 of 5

We were a family of 8 - 6 adults and 2 teenagers (a boy and a girl). We all enjoyed the fact that there were enough bedrooms with separate bathroom for each couple and each teenager and still had an extra bed in one of the teenagers bedroom and that the bedrooms were separated in a way that we all had our privacy. Zac came over to help get one of the air conditioners to work the day we asked as well as when we needed a new coffee grinder when we found it wasn't working. He provided us with 10 beach towels as well as all other bath towels. We did not have any disabled but there are steps to get into the house so it's not for handicapped people. We had a great time and would certainly rent it again if we are ever on the Big Island again. Convenient location but still quiet except for the wonderful sound of the birds in the morning 😎?

Great family spot

  • 5 of 5

This house exceeded our expectations. Property was clean and maintained when we arrived. We had 6 adults (3 couples) and 1 toddler. All had their own room, bathroom, and air conditioner. Kitchen, living room, lanai, pool and rooms were all great. There were pool toys, beach toys, and beach chairs in the garage to use. Great location to get to grocery store, beach, highway, and downtown. We have had many friends ask about the property from pictures on social media, we have recommended it to them, and would recommend it to anyone else interested. Thanks for a great 12 days in paradise.

Layout and location of the house are great. Disappointed with the house state and service

  • 3 of 5

The layout of the house is great : it had plenty of bedrooms, spacious living and dining rooms and a beautiful swimming pool, on a quiet street.

We were disappointed however about the state of the house. We had a few issues but here are the main ones: 1) we had to clean the inside of the dishwasher as it was full of an old build up calcium and food scraps. It's super loud and the dishes had to be re-cleaned by hand after every wash. (Not very convenient for a family of 7). 2) We found cockroaches every night in the room close to the game room, despite the fact that we kept all windows and doors closed. We think they were coming from the drain or the walls. Also, that room's bathroom had feces (rat? mouse?) hanging from the ceiling light (I took pictures).

All that to say that the house has a lot of potential but it doesn't feel clean because it's not very well maintained. Other examples : the top of the wooden dining room table had water marks on it and missing wood, there were missing light light bulbs, the carpet in some rooms were stained.

We still had a great time despite the fact that we didn't see Zac once, even when we asked him for a couple extra light bulbs for the living room light (the only light we really needed to be bright since we'd eat inside at night) and he came to drop off some old light bulbs while we were out. These light bulbs weren't even close to being the right ones for the living room light and by that time we had 2 days left so we just didn't bother to write him another time.
