Our family of 14 had a great time!
We had 5 families from ages 8-86 (8, 10, 10, 11, 12, 18, 26, 27, 44, 46, 47, 48, 84, and 86) and everyone had a great time! There was so much to do. We stayed Tues - Sun in Aug 2017. We took out the canoes, kayak, and row boat and stayed near shore one day and the other day paddled to the island nearby (difficult if strong winds so be sure to have adults in the boats with the kids). We played volleyball, roasted marshmallows at the fire pit, laid on the hammock, and sat on the deck watching the kids play random games they made up in the yard. Indoors we played a ton of games the owners had or our own we brought up. The kids played many games they thought up themselves. We commented when we got home that no tv ever went on the entire time!!! One day we went on a cruise to see Pictured Rocks and another day we hit the Escanaba State Fair. At the end of our trip we went to Tahquamenon Falls before heading home. All highly recommended.
The owners called only once when we arrived to make sure everything was ok and then again before we left to review the check out process. They never bothered us once but were available anytime if we had questions or needed anything. We didn't. The main house had a nice great room for us all to hang in with a great view of the bay and yard. The kitchen was big enough to cook meals and the large kitchen table held most of us to eat or we used it to play a ton of card games. The second house was nice to house more guests.
The kids ranked this trip one of the best!
Thanks to the Carnes for a great stay!
Lovely spot with lots of room for large family get togethers!
Lovely secluded spot with everything you need to have a great time. 6 bedrooms give plenty of space to spread out. The great room is large enough for at least the 15 we had with us. Boats and kayaks on site provide plenty of fun, as does the pool table. Kitchen was well stocked and plenty of towels for the guests. Cell service worked for certain carriers. Area provides beautiful views and not too long of a distance to National Parks (Pictured Rocks) and towns for groceries and bait (about 30-40 min away). Would recommend bringing fans to keep the air moving in warmer months.
The property is well-maintained and well-stocked for fun and relaxation! We all had a great time!
16 of us gathered to celebrate Mom's 80th birthday. With so much to do, we were all entertained! Beds were comfy and two full-sized fridges came in handy. Kitchen had everything we needed, even candles and flashlights to carry us through when a summer storm knocked out the power for a couple hours. Paul and Kim are great hosts and were very responsive to our questions and requests. We will recommend this home to everyone and look forward to staying again.
Comfortable, Plenty of space for multiple families
I visited with my two sisters and their families (6 adults and 9 kids, ages 7 through 16) and there was plenty of room for everybody. The house is not what I'd call fancy, but it has everything you need for a relaxing, quiet week away from it all. The property is very large, and the view of Lake Michigan is amazing. We brought bikes, but the grounds are more suited for hiking (and there are so many other things to do, we never missed the bikes). The kids had a great time on the boats and playing in the cove (but bring water shoes because the rocks are hard to walk on in bare feet). We enjoyed volleyball tournaments, euchre games, and bonfires, and had a wonderful time reconnecting with our families. Paul and Kim were very helpful and responsive to any questions, and had great suggestions for area attractions.
The house was great along with the area and Lake Michigan. Everyone truly enjoyed it and looking forward to doing it again.
What a Great Place!
Our entire family (including children 2 - 5), parents and grandparents all had a wonderful trip to the Stonington House. It is a beautifully secluded piece of property. The house is well appointed and CLEAN. Having traveling to many different spots up north, this is definitely our favorite so far. We'll be going back again next year, I hope!
Travel east or west and explore the small town charm, national forests and waters of the Upper Peninsula. Daytrips may include climbing falls, visiting Mackinac Island with no motor vehicles allowed or trying your luck at the casinos. The possibilities are endless!
