About Butch Short

We have owned and operated an outdoor store "Far-North Outfitters" in Bonners Ferry for 24 years, through out those years we have had many inquiries, as to if there was a log cabin on the river for rent, since we knew of no actual log cabins, right on the river, we set out to find the perfect spot ( took 5 years ), and build one ( 2 more years )..... And now, is completed and ready to be relaxed in....

Butch Short purchased this cabin in 2016

Why Butch Short chose Idaho

I chose this spot specifically because it's right in the middle of all the things we did with our 4 daughters growing up in the 80's.., floating the Moyie River, Hiking to Copper Creek Falls, swimming in the pools, picking huckleberries up Deer Ridge, fishing at Robinson and Sinclair Lakes, having dinners at Fiest Creek Resort, feeding the huge trout in the pond etc... Because of the beauty and uniqueness of Far-North Idaho , I wanted to share this with others as well as always having a place, no matter what crazy place they end up, that they can come back to , to reground , and to share with their children.

Everything was amazing! Fishing, rafting, kayaking, playing in the lake, the scenery, the cabin, the beautiful deck on the river where we can watch the moon rise, while listening to a beautiful guitar, the 100 years year book, hammocking... Amazing!

It's amazing! Can't wait to come back again

  • 5 of 5

It was awesome! I came up with my 13 year old daughter and three of her friends for a little end of summer adventure! The place is perfect for a single mom because everything is there for you... the kayaks and mountain bikes... tubes for the river. There was even a vehicle with racks to take the kayaks down to the lake. The girls had a great time kayaking... tubing... fishing ... hot tubbing .... watching movies once the sun went down and they were able to snap chat and post things to their walls because of the internet while in the cabin:).

The best place to stay in northern Idaho !!!

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at Little Moose Cabin this summer. The week was AMAZING !!! Thank you so much Butch for sharing your lovely place with us. After over 1800 miles was so nice to walk in such a pretty cabin. Everything was perfect hot tub was ready waiting for us ,that was what doctor order after long trip !!! You thought about everything creating your cabin . We enjoyed our stay we love little places close to nature The log cabin remain me the part of the world where I grew up. Even the taste of the huckleberries is very similar. We did hiking bicycling fishing kayaking we saw lots of pretty waterfalls we even took couple trips to Glacier National Park . Was very hard to leave your lovely place we hope to come back in the near future with rest of our family. We are advertising your place around our friends and family they keep on asking how did we found your place

Thank you so much Butch Maria Joe and Michael

Great way to spend a vacation!!!

  • 5 of 5

If your thinking of a stay at Little Moose cabin, go for it. Our family spent a week there and it was one of the best vacations we ever had. The cabin is fully equipped and the beds are so comfortable. I averaged over 8 hours of sleep a night and I haven't done that in years. The location of the cabin is perfect and I guarantee you will be impressed from the time you pull up till the time its time to go home. Its perfect if you just want to relax (sundeck right on the river as well as a comfy hammock with awesome views) or if you want to do stuff and be active (supplied quality mountain bikes, float tubes, kayaks, jogging trails). It is clear that the owner Butch, put a lot of planning into what is going to make his guests happy. Its like every detail of your stay is covered to make it truly a enjoyable experience. I have stayed at other vacation rental properties and I would have to say that Little Moose ranks at the top without a doubt. Thanks Butch for a great vacation, my family really enjoyed it. Bill
