About Butch Short

We have owned and operated an outdoor store "Far-North Outfitters" in Bonners Ferry for 24 years, through out those years we have had many inquiries, as to if there was a log cabin on the river for rent, since we knew of no actual log cabins, right on the river, we set out to find the perfect spot ( took 5 years ), and build one ( 2 more years )..... And now, is completed and ready to be relaxed in....

Butch Short purchased this cabin in 2016

Why Butch Short chose Idaho

I chose this spot specifically because it's right in the middle of all the things we did with our 4 daughters growing up in the 80's.., floating the Moyie River, Hiking to Copper Creek Falls, swimming in the pools, picking huckleberries up Deer Ridge, fishing at Robinson and Sinclair Lakes, having dinners at Fiest Creek Resort, feeding the huge trout in the pond etc... Because of the beauty and uniqueness of Far-North Idaho , I wanted to share this with others as well as always having a place, no matter what crazy place they end up, that they can come back to , to reground , and to share with their children.

Great way to spend a vacation!!!

  • 5 of 5

If your thinking of a stay at Little Moose cabin, go for it. Our family spent a week there and it was one of the best vacations we ever had. The cabin is fully equipped and the beds are so comfortable. I averaged over 8 hours of sleep a night and I haven't done that in years. The location of the cabin is perfect and I guarantee you will be impressed from the time you pull up till the time its time to go home. Its perfect if you just want to relax (sundeck right on the river as well as a comfy hammock with awesome views) or if you want to do stuff and be active (supplied quality mountain bikes, float tubes, kayaks, jogging trails). It is clear that the owner Butch, put a lot of planning into what is going to make his guests happy. Its like every detail of your stay is covered to make it truly a enjoyable experience. I have stayed at other vacation rental properties and I would have to say that Little Moose ranks at the top without a doubt. Thanks Butch for a great vacation, my family really enjoyed it. Bill

Its the complete package!

  • 5 of 5

This cabin, setting, details & amenities will exceed your expectations for sure. It is so nicely done. Its a luxurious cabin. The kitchen is stocked, including excellent coffee, ice in the freezer and ready for cocktails. We stayed here for a ladies weekend and were very comfortable. The beds & linens were plush. I live in Bonners Ferry and to have wifi and cell service is a luxury in that neck of the woods near the Canadian border. That was a bonus. We used the bar on the deck for breakfast, lunch & dinner. Loved having the Bose bluetooth speaker and Alexa for music. Everything you need for a fire in the fire pit was right there. Even the tubes were already aired up for floating. We floated each day and sat on the deck on the water. The water access is easy and able to sit in a chair at the water. Enjoyed the hot tub late at night and early mornings, it cools off nicely there on the river. Anything we might have forgotten was already there. I can't wait to take my family for a weekend.

Wonderful experience

  • 5 of 5

We stayed for a week in this cabin and absolutely wonderful. Every last detail was taken care of. For those who aren't from this area, like us, I can't overstate how beautiful this part of the country is and this cabin is a hidden gem right in the middle of it all.

A Gift to Our Family

  • 5 of 5

For once the pictures of the rental was even better than they look, and they look pretty good. Even as we were leaving we were talking about how lucky we were to find Butch's cabin. Butch is the perfect owner. He new what we needed before we did. For instance towels hanging by the hot tub, citronella candle, coffee beans for an excellent brew, fishing gear, kayaks ( and Oh, also the jeep to haul them), Alexa to keep us informed and entertained, and I'm pretty sure he had something to do with the gorgeous Idaho scenery.

You have everything you need to cook with, even a fire pit for S'mores, and an especially terrific restaurant, The Wild Horse Mercantile. Ray, the owner and cook, could be a star in any big city, but luckily for us his establishment is very near the cabin. Mmmmmm you must have his private recipe Huckleberry Cheesecake.

This vacation gave my grown family a week of comfort and overwhelming beauty. We had all the time we needed to revisit family stories and create new ones. Thank you Butch.

Great escape!

  • 5 of 5

We arrived at Little Moose and immediately we're blown away by this property. Music was playing and a bottle of wine waiting for us. We were two families each with two kids under 7. Butch brought in extra beds and it slept us all perfectly! The property itself is amazing. Smores by fire, hot tub, fishing poles, kayaks and tubes to use on the river or nearby lakes, and a jeep to haul the gear around. We shared Sinclair lake with a moose while swimming. Brush lake was great for kayaking and catching trout. Copper falls is a perfect hike for little kids. This is top of our list for a family getaway and a much needed escape! Thank you Butch for this amazing stay, we can't wait to be back!
